Jay Slater missing in Tenerife: What we know and what happens next

Lancashire teenager Jay Slater went missing in Tenerife on June 17 - he was heading back to his accommodation, spoke to a friend, and hasn't been since then.
Two men invited apprentice bricklayer Jay back to an Airbnb called Casa Abuela Tina, near the tiny village of Masca, following an NRG Festival rave at the Papagayo nightclub.
The next morning, he started a walk back when he missed a bus. Police and search and rescue crews mounted a huge search operation lasting nearly two weeks - with no sign of him.
Now, police wait, poised to continue the search with new clues as to where he might be. Investigators and members of the public have attempted to help solve the mystery as well - but almost four weeks on, Jay has still not been found.
M.E.N. reporter James Holt looks back on the search effort so far, and what comes next, and Stephen Topping in Tenerife has the latest on what's happening right now with the search effort.

You don't want a job there. I used to be a writer and sub editor at the M.E.N. years ago, when newspapers actually mattered lol, and it was a bit crap even then and obviously commencing a massive decline. But one thing I can say, and as you also point out, is that as cack as it was back then, it did actually cover news stories properly. I doubt this camp little twonk would have been given a job there back then, given that this load of old rehashed rubbish which everyone already knows, is his idea of how to do a comprehensive and up to date news report which actually covers what the title of it claims it will be doing. Apparently is the result of a week of on-site research, collating what we know and what will be forthcoming. Where is any of that? The one thing online reports can actually do, is be fairly up to the minute with stories such as this, but this aspect seems to have escaped this guy's notice. I'm so glad I left that job if this is the standard it is deeming acceptable for its reporters.

The family's fake tears remind me of the Karen Matthews case. The GFM is being used to fly sixteen members of their family over to Tenerife to help them..have a lovely summer holiday in posh hotels. Jay was never in the mountains. His phone was. You can't take the word of Lucy, Brad and Quassim.

The witness statements the friends gave seem more like alibis to protect themselves and throw the investigation in a direction away from what they conspired together. Their story suggesting he went onto the campo, when he could have hitched a ride,take a bus, tired from the night before, and a phone tossed into the bush on the campo that had a last photo of him at the bnb, wrapped in a blanket taking a pic of his feet and hand, not showing his face and looking rather staged, and maybe out for the count. The last time his face was actually recorded was at the last night of the event. The phone on the campo drew attention away from the bnb for a period and sorta corroborated the friends quickly stuffed together story, fast looking like an alibi. Each holding a different part of the fiction, while reality stays in the group. Fact is, Several went out, one didn’t return 🙈

With respect to that investigation! I know Tenerife quite well I’m bilingüe , from birth and know Masca It’s a very beautiful area for hiking and explore, with a Trekking guide or someone that know the area. I don’t believe that, if he was there, he will go to explore the high mountains, sorry! I don’t know who is lying but someone is , for sure, perhaps to divert the attention to that unbelievable history! I DO , don’t KNOW KASSIM BUT I DONT TRUST HIM, his history of Jay don’t ring like true, to me! Just hope he’s founded soon and put some peace into his family! Today 11 of July latest news, is there, had been several sightings of him in the island and Lanzarote! I do don’t know if is true but is all around in the net!

I watched something about drugs being brought in near the air b & b, so it would make sense. They got him on the boat. So a week tomorrow is when the family was granted permission to bring in professionals!. Still they haven't got anyone other than volunteers searching 🤦‍♀️. Why are they not using that money for a reward or specialist people?. I can't understand people donating to it, it's been clear since day one it's all fishy. Thanks for objectiv information. There are lot of unanswered questions. Living on Canary Islands i know this is very difficult terrain, if he went lost he is dead by now by dehydration, maybe one day found by hunters. First prority of police was to find him in time. Or he is dead by murdered because of involved in some crime like drugs or stealing, messing with the big boys. He has drugs history but maybe underestimated the gangs on the island. Or he is hiding because of reasons above and doesn't want to be found, then he is very cruel to his parents (if they don't know by now).

I’m not saying he did but the way the roads are along the mountains you might have to walk miles before they dip down so the temptation to cut down and take a more direct short cut route to sea, motorways etc.

@@mrnobodyz I can understand that. But you're far more likely to be passed by a car that could give you a lift if you stay on the road. It seems as though he made a poor decision and it has cost him his life. I've just read that they have found his body in a remote part of the island.

@@Chris-qv5gv and posssesions… Unless you know Tenerife it’s hard to convey how annoyingly difficult and hot those roads can get… Because of my age, fitness I managed to resist the temptation to cut straight down a few times when trekking there. Yeah If his decision making was impaired due to drink drugs or tiredness then one wrong choice could’ve been the cause.

There are so many theories regarding this disappearance. The Guardia Civic showed a distinct lack of competence in relation to collecting forensics. Searching for someone who was dehydrated in the heat, and collapsed, would not be far from the road. The 'two British men' merit deeper investigation as to the possible connections between lower and middle ranking Guardia Civic officers, as well as the income streams/bank records of their superiors. The ambitions of Jay Slater may be relevant were he involved in narcotics so Manchester Police will have some investigation to complete. For the moment, this remains an enigma. For those protagonists in this affair? It is inevitable that the truth will come out. God bless, and help, Jay Slater's family, and God help those who tried to muddy the water in the stream of truth - they will pay for their crime.
