Jay Strongwater is like bougie (ie, money, but no innate taste) Fabregé. I love going to local craft fairs, artists, museum shops to buy from real artists. I have an artist friend who makes headdresses for performance artists, admittedly, a very narrow niche market. But I bought one from her bc it was so stunning, the piece was all made from up-cycled materials, I loved it, and it sits on a cool manikin head she also made. I did actually wear it to a fancy schmancy cocktail party once time, but I love just looking at it on its perch. It makes me happy to just see it. “A thing of beauty is a joy to behold.” Most of this schmeidrei will be turning up in thrift shops and yard sales for pennies on the dollar. Heirs will inherit and look askance at this drek and say, “toss it”!

Swarovsky crystals are lead glass, with a bit of care taken in crafting them. They're clearly valuable for the same reason that diamonds are valuable: the company had good marketing and they control how many are made. Given the recent decision by their CEO to stop selling them in bulk to dealers, that's pretty obvious.

We placed accessories (lamps, pillows, paintings, artificial plants, everything) all over the store to enhance the furniture displays. There were constantly new things, and some were hideous. Might be a horrible lamp or a horrible furniture set. The worse it was, the faster it sold. We would discuss this with the sales staff, and it baffled them also.
