People in the comments are either misunderstanding what Jay meant or purposefully misinterpreting what he said. His reference to "technical skill" didn't mean Pac wasn't lyrical. But Pac was a pretty straightforward person, in and out of the booth. Pac didn't use double or triple entendres (Jay), or Iambic pentameter (Kendrick), or write an album with a story that plays differently whether you listen to the songs in order or in backwards order (Lupe). That's just not the kind of person Pac was, and it wasn't the kind of rapper he was. Pac was visceral and direct; if he wanted to say something, he just said it, no double or hidden meanings needed. That's not a slight to him at all. Pac was Leonardo Da Vinci with the pen. Jay is Salvadore Dali. Both are artists, but their approach to the art was/is completely different, this the listener's experience is completely different.

@@Nhp456 his lyricism may not be on par with his peers but to say he isn’t a lyricist is just absurd. We can agree to disagree on that one. I hold him to higher degree for one huge reason.
