I think that oda is writing revolutionaries like revolutionaries should be in reality. Most Revolutionaries leader don't act reclessly at all. Kuma and ginny too are an example of million of love story that died in a revolution. In no way dragon would sacrifice the whole revolution for a commander. Dragon is trying to win a war, not a fight. He is prioritizing saving the world, not a person. I think Dragon is one of the truest leaders we’ve seen in One Piece. He won’t waste his resources as he is playing chess not checkers. He is trying to checkmate the WG, specifically the celestial dragons. He said that a child is a parents’ weakness, meaning that it makes sense for him to not be in Luffy’s life as the moment Luffy gets into trouble as the parent Dragon would always rush to his aid. It’s because Dragon cares about Luffy that he distanced himself. The WG wants Dragons head more so than anyone else in the world meaning that he can’t show himself all willy nilly. People who are upset about Dragons lack of retaliation for his people or even the baltigo incident are failing to see the bigger picture.

He’s speaking facts though as much as we wanted him to do something it simply isn’t that easy and straight forward. His goal simply involves taking down the entire world government a system of molars mightiest and influence that’s been ruling the world for 800 years 😂 it’s not a simply walk in the park. it seems he will come out though once the holy knights are revealed and shown making their counter attack until than expect nothing from the guy. Oda doesn’t like drawing fights anyways so don’t get your hopes up anytime soon. Dragon will surely be strong but he’s held back for the sake of the narrative, his whole goal might be centered around his son Luffy and once his nika powers are full manifested that’s when they will finally meet than ally up to take down the world government together. Since Luffy is the messiah of the one piece world and the living embodiment of freedom he’s everything that’s needed for him to finally attain his goal alongside the followers Luffy has made and the new ones that are waiting for Nika’s rise. It’s all pretty clique at the end of the day anyways, they will eventually take down the government but it’s just simply a waiting game at this point
