I've owned an FF for just approaching 2 years and 17K miles. There is nothing I could replace it with, including a Lusso. It is awesome. It's huge, parking is an issue particularly in narrow UK parking spaces with very long coupe doors. I'm still on the original PTU and fingers crossed it's not shown any issues to date other than a perished pipe and the small plastic header tank which deteriorates as the car approaches 10 years old. Now there's a decent non factory solution to the PTU failure at around £12K I've decided to no longer bother with warranty and take the car to a specialist. I'm effectively self insuring, but I'm generally someone who prefers preventative maintenance rather than waiting for something go bang. I average 12-14 mpg if driving normal roads circa 200 miles on a tank, on a long run it will give 300 miles on a tank. It cruises effortlessly at licence losing speeds. That really is the one issue. I can't really use it, I can't really get close to using anywhere near all of it unless I go to the continent. That's frustrating and if I'm honest it's a small miracle that I still have a driving licence. I just can't bring myself to sell it. The forged wheels are made of chocolate, I have a spare set of four (picked up at an obscure Bonhams on line auction) because I will bend one or two a year, plus lose a few tyres to potholes at the same time. The electrics are very Italian, it's a "feature" in as much as it doesn't like being sat unused and will throw a fit if you've not been in it for a week or so...needy. So I tend to leave mine on a CTEK all the time. The well known Ferrari hard reset generally cures it, (turn off and back on again after a while and it's all happy again). It has the best steering in any car I've ever driven, it hustles down the road in a way a car of this size and weight has no right to. It absolutely needs to be on PS4S tyres though, they completely transformed the handling over the P Zero's that came from the factory. The FF is more "Ferrari" the Lusso is a more comfortable daily as James explains. Personally I feel they got it right first time, to such a degree I bought one.

I reviewed both FF and GTC. The FF won out for me. Key differences were; FF just felt more honest as a Ferrari. It felt more leathery, I preferred much of the interior, preferred looks (even though I thought I would prefer quad lamps). Negatives to FF were fear over PTU and the media. But no question the FF is more fun. I compromised on panoramic roof but with cream leather headlining accepted the compromise. I have 2 years remaining on factory warranty and accepted the PTU may be an issue at some point. It feels to me that the GTC has been softened to be more of a daily driver where the FF is still a drivers car first. New or second hand I think both are likely to not be the only Ferrari in a persons garage. We haven’t stopped using ours and the kids love watching the movies in the back. The 355 manual is now a toy for me, the FF is the family day tripper!! Incredible value when you consider what new cars now cost!

Interesting video, I've owned a Lusso for 4 months & 2000 miles now and would initially have agreed with @JayEmm about the steering, however I've found the more I drive the car and get used to the steering, the better it gets. It takes time to get confidence in the car, but once you have it, you will be rewarded. It doesn't have the same resposonse as a McLaren which is very race car like, but it's still pretty good. So planning on keeping it as fantastic car.

I have the FF and we have serviced quite a lot. This included a rebuilt PTU and DCT. Also new brakes and discs. And now servicing the injectors. The battery is in a bad spot and gets crazy hot. Probably should replace it once a year or so. It should be relocated to the back. In any case, it should be said that the FF and (V12) GTC4Lusso is essentially the same car. More like a Porsche 991.1 vs a 991.2. The mechanicals are the same with minor variations. That means the PTU concerns will be the same in the GTC4Lusso and they are known to go out at very low mileage (e.g. it can even happen at 8,000-10,000k miles). It's fine. You just need to budget for it. And no, the main dealer doesn't do the PTUs.

I haven't driven any of them, but logic would have it that the lighter V8 with no PTU in front would be the better drive. ..but it's a turbo V8, where as the V12 is a Ferrari V12. Ferrari V12 > the rest. Everything's a compromise. A four cylinder fast Golf is likely a better car than a VR6 Golf, but I'd have the VR6. The modern Volvos are, dodgy quality aside, a better handling car, but I'd take a five cylinder older gen for the warble, OR the V8 S80. That's the beauty of this world. Different strokes for different folks 🙂

I really enjoyed this one, James. I bought the FF based on your previous reviews and you were spot on. There is not a car like it and I could not think of replacing it with anything else. I was considering a GTC4Lusso, but I know of how it was calmed down vs the FF, and for that, I think I would be disappointed. However, is there a better 4 seater, 4 door than these two cars? I have driven the Purosangue and it may have improved steering feel vs the GTC4Lusso going by your description. The suspension is magnificent. About the PTU: after having many conversations with Ferrari and specialists about this, I believe the issue is rarer than we previously believed. For sure, if a bi-annual oil change is missed this is not good for the gear box, and the oil is not cheap. I just paid >£800 with some other items to change the PTU oil. So, check that this has not been missed by other owners. Yes, the ceramic brakes are another big item. In my opinion, it is all worth it. The FF is such an event every time I put foot into it. The steering is a delight and nothing gives me such joy as when I'm on an empty road and pointing the front wheels around bends.

It wouldnt hurt if Mazda or Toyota made such based of MX-5 or GR86. Perfect daily toys and if it were budget it wouldnt be worrysome nor intimidating and with little to no sacrifice in any aspect.

Nice video as always, thanks. As the mid 80's through to late 90's covered my late teens through 20's, I've never been much of a Ferrari fan. I preferred Porsche with its greater practicality and VERY significantly lower prices (not that I was buying either). The 'sorts' of people driving each of the big three (these two plus Lambos) here in Australia probably skewed things, too, LOL. Nothing much has altered my opinion there, although I'm not a fan of just how relatively bloated (and normal) the 911 has become. As you'd know, the earlier ones, especially air-cooled, were surprisingly small and light by comparison. I got to drive two versions (2.7 Carrera and 3.3 Turbo) quite a bit in my late teens/early twenties, courtesy of a friend's very generous (and all round remarkably interesting) father, but I was naturally inclined towards the 911. As an aside, who didn't find the 959 at least fascinating/remarkable when it appeared, if not love it? For all that rambling, however, there are two things about Ferraris that usually are undeniable: First of all, they're beautiful; even something like this Lusso that needs to be a bit chunky in the rear to accommodate proper rear seats looks delicious from many angles (unsurprisingly, I like the old school rear lights and the quad pipes). Secondly, lord that V12 soundtrack is glorious and doubtless worth a few 10,000's of pounds/dollars, LOL. They certainly appear to have remained true for the Lusso.

Oh yes a White GTC4 Lusso... Just take my money! That's the prancing horse for me, although I'm not in love with the interior spec. I actually had a go in a black one with tan leather here in Australia and I almost, almost went home with it. I've just never had a car or motorcycle on finance and although the deal was very attractive (as was the saleswoman, although I think that was a strategic thing) I just couldn't pull the trigger. Having debt stresses me out more than having money, which I'm still getting used to.

So well-timed! I am about to purchase either an FF or Lusso V12. Leaning toward the Lusso. Have a 458 spider for a fun car, and a Ford Police Interceptor (explore) for projects, mountain biking or more rugged activities. I was leaning toward the Lusso b/c it seemed to be a bit quieter for the passengers, a more modern infotainment and cabin layout. Sort of a 2nd generation FF. Also thinking a well spec'd Lusso V12 might hold its value a little more. Would you go Lusso V12, Lusso T, or FF, knowing you already have a spider and a true suv? Thanks!
@axing_
@axing_ 20 күн бұрын
Sounds like you've got a great car for the weekend fun and a great SUV for hauling stuff and adventurous activities. A comfortable, 4 seat, stylish 200 mph gentleman's cross-continent missile that is the V12 Lusso seems like the perfect addition! The FF has much stiffer suspension and you're already getting that experience with the 458 and the Lusso T just isn't the same without the V12 (and also how would you make it to the fancy, snowy, alpine skiing retreat without the AWD system? ... what a problem to have by the way haha). The downsides of the V12 Lusso that is the steering feel in corners and over all being a bit more daily driver than driver's car compared to an FF for example is something that would matter much more if it was the only fun car, but with a 458 parked next to it, it seems like not a meaningful trade off at all considering the comfort improvements over an FF. I might be slightly biased though as I personally think the V12 GTC4 Lusso is one of the coolest cars in the world :)

Having tried both the FF & the Lusso, I'm convinced Ferrari screwed up somehow in the design phase, and got the bodies swapped between the two models. Somehow, the FF got the elegant body with the aggressive suspension & steering, while the Lusso got the luxurious suspension & steering, but with the aggressive body style. As a result, neither car really hit the target, not knowing if it wanted to be an elegant grand tourer, or a practical sportscar. It's a pity really. The FF could've been a great GT if it had the Lusso's running gear, and the Lusso could've been a great sports-tourer had it had the FF's running gear, but as produced, neither reached its true potential...

That new Ferrai FUV SUV thing cant even be called a SUV. It has absolutely no ground clearance at all and is slammed to the ground. Has the proportions of cars from the 1940s. The weird in between period of sedans looking like SUVs before getting sleeker and lower like they did in the 50s. Its definitely textbook definition of a crossover.
