The 599 is such a huge step design wise from its predecessor. Not that the 550/575 isn‘t a very pretty car, it definitely is. But when the 599 came out it was such a spaceship, at the time it was unimaginable how there could ever be something that will replace it. It felt like the final Ferrari at the time. So modern and yet elegant. It still is.

I may be in the minority but I really like how the 599 looks! I never thought it looked ugly and in fact, as car designs all over the place get more and more weird, the simple, curvy and quite original design of the 599 looks even better. I'm also fond of it because one of the very first 1:24 scale models my parents bought me when I was a kid circa 2007/2008-ish was a Rosso Fiorano 599 GTB model kit from Maisto, which I still have and love. And as pointed out in the video, yes the 599 doesn't look that pretty in Rosso Corsa, but I think it looks sensational in Rosso Fiorano! This car was just made for dark shades!

Thank you. This is a most informative review of the 599GTB HGTE I have encountered. This car looks great in black (I'm not a fan of black, but this one looks better to me than red and especially black over red). Unlike JayEmm, when the 599 was introduced I was amazed by the back end and thought it was brilliant--a fully glazed panopticon canopy partly shaded and compositionally mitigated by aerodynamic (functional!) buttresses. It made so much sense (as though this is what the Dino 206/246 GT attempted) but had never been accomplished before. I appreciate learning from JayEmm that this car is bigger than the 812 (that looks huge to me) because I'm a Colin Chapman fan, but this episode convinces me that it's worth consideration.

The hope of buying and owning a depreciated “classic” supercar is being sunsetted by electrification. Doesn’t matter if hybrid or full EV. The added complexity and expense to source, install, or repair bespoke unobtainable batteries and circuits to keep them on the road will be so daunting it’ll be out of reach for owners with neither the money, time or patience to deal with it. Cars like the 599 that (apart from screens and ECU) are mostly mechanical and still heavy on the wallet to keep running properly are going to seem like a bargain to maintain. To own a used supercar in the future you’re going to have to go from mid to upper middle class to a 1%er. But how many 1%ers won’t just buy a new car instead?

I mean this sharpened V12 creation is more like "wanna be track version" for shorter joyride which somehow spoils core purpose of pure GT...which 550 was....Maybe that's why most people ended up buying Maserati Quattroporte instead....

But if you can take it to a track as part of your test, the words "evil fun" will pop into your brain quickly. But on the road, it's one of those cars you buy to teach yourself restraint. Its performance envelope will exceed yours unless you've inherited a lot of genes from a certain Mr A. Senna. The HGTE is probably as far as you'll want to go if you ever buy one yourself. Aside from the eye watering purchase price of the GTO, it's capable of aging you 20 years in as many minutes with its performance. The GTO is a Krakatoa volcano of a car.
