A couple of months I traded in my very loved Honda S2000 to a 2007 V8 Vantage manual with less than 40k. Its Ghillies green exterior on Bitter Chocolate interior was what finally made me byte the bullet. It never fails to make me feel like a child, everytime I enter it and turn it on. Damn, just looking at it! Thanks James for your input when I was still considering other options! No regrets :)

I got a 2008 a couple of months ago and couldn’t be happier. Love the fact that I can rev high to enjoy that amazing sound without having to break the speed limits. The only thing I wish this came with and I agree is a nonessential gimmick is to have a ECU crystal key. Anyone has done a conversion from the early Volvo Fobs?

I bought one second hand - best car I've ever owned. It's handbuilt so little stuff sometimes needs a word with itself (various monitors go mad, then it's fine 20 mins later); but nothing big ever went wrong. You never get a bad reaction on the road. Every time you look at it you smile, and the noise... cannot recommend highly enough.

Two words, and I haven’t even finished watching it yet, ‘pure class’. My dream was always to have a sweeping gravel driveway to a modest Georgian country house and an Aston Martin. I was the second owner of a 2007 V8 Vantage that I bought in 2014, black/black with anthracite wheels & grille. Sadly I had to sell it after 2 years but it was a great car. I didn't lose much money on it, though servicing and consumables are obviously pretty pricey! The general public seem to love Astons and I never had anything but positive remarks. I'd have another but would have to be able to keep my current 996 too - the Vantage feels like a much bigger/chunkier car.

Great video. I have owned my Vantage over 7 years now and is exactly the same one looks wise as the one in your video. The clutch thing is a myth I haven’t changed mine to the double plate nor will I do unless it starts to go wrong. I like the feel of the heavier pedal and the clutch change on the single plate. I service mine annually and regularly drive it and the only thing I could comment about on the earlier models is it will throw up some strange faults on the dashboard from time to time. Other than that I have changed the gas struts on the doors and boot lid but that’s all

I'd always wanted to scratch an M3 itch though and replaced the RS4 with an E92. JM, it's interesting that the 997 was the car I cross-shopped before buying the 4.3 V8 Vantage! Yes, the Porsche is immediately easier to drive, lighter steering, braking, and clutching, easier to shift as well. It's also a lot harsher over broken pavement and due to stern damping, quite a bit louder. It was also roughly ten grand less expensive in US dollars. I bought the Aston for emotional reasons - the comparative rarity, the sound, the looks, the GT demeanor it has, the much larger boot/trunk so one can actually go travel with her. Yes, she does drink the fuel, and yes, the maintenance costs can run even more than a Porsche, but I had already had two older air cooled 911s and decided that the Aston had to join my Jaguar XJ8 for I had wanted to buy British for a very long time. Both cars appear to be reliable so I can forgive them if they require maintenance and repair. The thing that loom over the 997.1 is of course the infamous IMS bearing, which is about a $3500 repair requiring dropping the engine. I do love Porsche "911s," don't get me wrong, but I've always had a hankering for an Aston-Martin and I"m not sorry for the purchase at all.

The best proportioned, best looking Aston of all in recent years for my money. The DB9 is rather corpulent and bulky compared to the V8 Vantage. Having thrashed a Vantage around Elvington race track a few years ago, it remains my ultimate dream drive. It's not the fastest car, but as James says, "How fast do you really need to go?!" I have two classic cars, which if I sold would easily put me in the driving seat of a Vantage. The one factor I am wary of is the potential cost of maintenance........ Great view- very informative as per usual!

3:00 the catch is simply what you referred to at the beginning- the "thick folder" of service history and maintenance. Might cost you 'only' £25k to buy but this will still have repair costs of a +- £100k car when things go wrong.

The thick folder just shows it has been looked after. In truth the biggest bill on the car for the last six years was to fix a faulty fuel sensor

Hi James, Thanks for your videos, there ace and seem to always feature all the cars I love. I’m considering one of these or a F-type v6S for sunny weekend use only, which would you choose, I keep flip flopping between the two.

This is 100% my dream car. I think it's the most beautiful car ever made. However, the cheapest - and only - example on offer in New Zealand is $60,000. Guess it'll remain a dream.

Tony Burt there is also the V12 vantage, they aren’t as sought after and not as well known, so they might be even cheaper although that V12 can become an endless moneypit

I have an 2010 Jaguar XKR at the moment and this is the only car I will consider changing for... I'm seeing it as an upgrade in the next couple of years, even if the other half needed some convincing to let me park the Jag on the drive!

Excellent review. Concise, punchy and very honest. Keep it up Mr JayEmm. I'm looking for a 'mid life crisis' second car and the AMV8 looks good to me. The fact that you can service and maintain these things quite cheaply is a big plus. However, buy carefully as Mr JayEmm's friend obviously did.

Great review. As you say, a ridiculous amount of car for the money. To answer your question; my dream car is a 1980s Aston V8 Vantage x-pack in blue but I’m about £350,000 short. I’ve just settled for a Jaguar 5.0 XKR 2010 19,000 miles, speed pack in kyanite blue (I like blue) 503 bhp for £26K. Again how daft is that for the money and it’s cheaper than an Aston to service. What’s not to love about cars like this? Unbelievable value and I have a Cheshire CAT grin just looking at it let alone driving it. Fantastic.

Id have to say the Maserati GranTurismo in answer to affordable dream car - around 20k for a decent one right now, with looks to die for and one of the most sonorous engine notes in existence! For a project though it'd be a 240z.

I am lucky enough to have owned a V8 vantage for approaching 5 years. Everything reported is true, (although I don’t know when this was recorded , but now the shine has worn off the new model the used prices are creeping up again) mine is ghillies green with immaculatetan leather ... pure class.

A replacement clutch is @ £3k and it's the cars achilles heel. This car is now starting to look expensive. Very pretty, great sound but the on costs are unnecessarily expensive. An owner of both a 4.3 and 4.7 told me that the engine oil is the same as used in a Land Rover, the reference numbers only differ very slightly and its a different colour. The big difference is it costs 3 times as much for the Aston.
