Yes it's correct, when I'm new in London I start to ask London people why many lords 😂😂 because we all know I am fool to understand what is the Lord words, because my Lord is Jesus Christ, then they are start laughing to me and said we all know that our Lord is Jesus Christ. Until I learned British culture and I found what is the meaning of the Lord, I saw Lord title was started given by the King or Queen of UK, king and queen only given that title to those man helped a kingdom or donate for the kingdom of UK, so no lords are poor all lords are rich, and until know they continue to give a title lord to a man that helped and donating her wealth for the people of UK. That is the 1 function of Lord of UK, the 2nd Function is Religion and Politics. But Lord word in UK are not represented to Lord in the heaven or not represented like God 😂 a Lord word to UK is a Friend on Royal Families or Any important person or UK that named her Lord. Lord in UK is like Honorable, Sir, but no other meanings, only people called you my lord, if you have a wife they called them my lady, also to your daughter or son if they are in the right age a people called them my lord and my lady that's because they are having a blood of Lord.

And when did politician did something else, than what they were asked to or what they promised beforehand?
@protorhinocerator1423 жыл бұрын
Why would a PM ever want to stop doing that. It's quick, easy, and cheap. He doesn't need to call a committee or get approval. He just whips out standard form 12-J-mb(7) and makes someone a peer. It's the equivalent of a manager handing out fancy titles at work because there's no money in the budget to give anyone an actual raise. That doesn't work on me, as I typically invent my own titles. Nobody argues with it, but then they probably just don't care.

Yeah, they did THE one thing, that has proven so successful in forwarding human history: To ask the powerfull nicely... 😞 I followed a guy, axplaining greek myths. The prince Theseus, after killing the Minotaur on Crete, consolidated and stabilized the situation back in Athens as king now, and banned monarchy for ever, thus establishing the first democracy !!! The guy then said, that of course, no powerfull person has ever done similarly on one side, but also it´d be naive to believe, that any powerfull person would ever give up on ALL of his powers (not even the mythical father of democracy)... Theseus actually kept the executive (as highest general) and the judiciary (as highest judge) for himself, and gave only the legislative to the people... (That´s 3,500 years ago, and far better than the UK today, but still not perfect... Cause u can never trust the powerfull in matters of power)

These “People’s Peers” are chosen for their skills and experience - such as if they’re experts in law, or science, or the arts, or beer - thus assuring that the House of Lords is truly representative of the British people it serves, with the exception of the 92 hereditary peers, 26 godbrothers, and 620 life peers chosen by the prime minister who ultimately have the final say on the laws that govern our country, despite not being elected, which arguably is a positive thing because it means they’re less caught-up in party politics and can concentrate on getting the job done, but it also makes them completely unaccountable and the paltry reforms in 1999 served only to legitimate how inherently undemocratic the entire institution is and delay any meaningful reform for the foreseeable future whilst we continue to labour under the assumption that we live in a democracy and still have a monarch… That's one hell of a sentence.

@Gayestskijumpever7 жыл бұрын
I voted to leave the EU because it's rotten to the core and have been an avid supporter of the abolition or at least the complete reform of the House of "Lords" since I was a teenager. Everybody votes for their own reasons and based on the statistics or gut feelings that support them, we are not robots. I am still Pro-Brexit because the EU parliament are still incompetent and extremely corrupt. They do not wish to reform themselves to be fairer and more democratic either.
@LukeHarpercouk7 жыл бұрын
Because it's Impossible to be anti EU and anti House of Lords too? Some people just want democracy where they can find it. @Sapiensiate7 жыл бұрын
Because you are trying to make out that an argument made on a relative basis is one being made on an absolute basis. No system is perfectly democratic, but that does not mean that some systems are not worse than others. Whilst the HoL is an undemocratic institution it is entirely beholden to the HoC; that is to say that although it can kick legislation back it cannot do this forever, and the HoC has the power to completely disband the HoL. In this sense the HoL acts exactly how it should - as a powerless check and balance on the government to hold it to a high standard and nothing more. That is a far cry from the EU where the undemocratic Commission are the only body that is even allowed to propose new laws.
@EwanMarshall7 жыл бұрын
What's more I would rather have those hereditary and church leaders amongst the peers than the ones dolled out by the MP stacking the house with people that will tow the party line on whatever poorly thought out rights trampling bill they are trying to push through next. To explain for anyone not following Jay Foreman on Twitter: He posted a link missing the final character to 'guess' the character. He accidentally said digit, making it far FAR easier to guess.

legitimately all of this Politics Unboringed videos are my ALevel politics class because we learn about something dumb (like the lords) and immediately spend the rest of our lesson asking how that can happen and ranting about how it’s dumb while our politics teacher just stands there like ‘yes,,, yes i suppose it is, but EDEXCEL demand you know about it so here we are’

Jay, I know you'll probably not see this, but have you ever thought of doing videos on NI politics? I find it a lot more interesting than Westminster simply because of the politicians and their history. A Unionist MLA asked the British Government back in the 80's could they carpet bomb Drogheda and another (my local MP) wanted to get Ouija boards banned. And then a Republican MLA shot a prison officer and had to jump onto a police Land Rover to avoid being run over in a riot. I think it's even more important now, since the DUP is now in power.

They can be overridden. If it's a money bill, like the government's budget or a bill about taxes or supplemental appropriations, passed by the Commons and certified by the Speaker, then they can be delayed for only 30 days. And if it's about anything else, then if after 12 months, the Lords keep insisting on not passing it or with amendments the Commons does not like, then the Commons can force their way. The lords tried to oppose things once before in 1910 against the People's Budget proposed by the Liberals, which the lords stymied, so the Liberals got the king to threaten to create new lords so that the new budget could pass and a reform act to allow the override of the lords to happen normally was also passed.

They don't actually have any significant power due to the Parliament Act of 1911 and 1949. They can only really delay bills.
