you forgot another reason for phantom islands - copy protection. map makers create fake roads or even islands, so that they can track down people who copy their maps and distribute them as their own.

A great vid., despite the numerous little errors. The "east is up" thing is true for Welsh, too, wherein the similarity between south (de) and right (dde) is immediately apparent, and the word for north (gogledd) derives from "go-" + "cledd", meaning "nearest the left".

Those floating boats are NOT fata morganae. They are just the result of the sea reflecting the sky differently due to the water being stiller in the far distance. You can see the horizons in the images themselves. Common mistake kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqbRe4RopsZglcUsi=rQWWAJvBVYCMkd62

Oh my, Amazonian women caught me off guard Oh my the dozen fingers were kind of expected, the hand was already held up suggestively enough But I was really sleight of handed by the black smudge on Jay's face, noticed only at the end... Thought there was again some gag with facial hair involved, but no :D What's the script on blackboard on the left at 0:30? Curious if there's any easter eggs in there as well :]

hmm....do you two often have trouble's with one of you spontaniously not existing? as far as I know, it hasn't happened on screen, but presumably thats a tiny fraction of your total life---unless you guys are usually in a state of not-quite-existing purgatory?

At 07:35, that island off the west coast of Ireland was actually proven to exist in the hit TV show "Father Ted". Its just been renamed from Brasil to Craggy to avoid confusion.

I can remember, whilst sailing from Australia to Japan with a cargo of iron ore, using Admiralty charts, obviously, seeing some small islands with curious annotations. For example, "Reported to lie 10 miles to the North East", and, my favourite, "The existence of this island is doubtful".
