Buckethead wrote Soothsayer for his aunt, Susie, when she was 74 years old. Unfortunately, she passed away the following year (RIP). Aunt Susie gave Brian Carroll AKA Buckethead his first guitar when he was a kid. That woman was a vital part of music legend. This mans music has LITERALLY changed my life since I dove into his catalog, which is immense by the way. 1000's of songs! I'm sooo glad you finally got to this. Don't let the bucket and mask turn you off. It's just a persona and gimmick. BUCKETHEAD (Brian Carrol) is a guitar virtuoso as you've witnessed. No need for lyrics. The guitar does the singing. His softer melodic stuff is incredibly deep. His shredding is top notch! Follow the recommendations for other songs to react to. The people won't steer you wrong. His live stuff is obviously more fun to watch, but take time to dive in on your personal time. Great long awaited reaction!!!!! 🤘🏼

Derek Charette I'm not disrespecting the guy since he's one of my favorite musicians. And I know his backstory and history. But admittedly, it's a gimmick. He threw it in his head, and it he thought it was amusing and kept the look. Yes, social issues might have influenced the idea, but everything as far as his movements and look, is for the persona. It's eccentric. Like him. A gimmick doesn't have to be negative. It can be used purposely. This is a perfect example. Oh, and Slipknot are heterosexuals, just to clarify another thing for you.

Buckethead is a monster, completely dedicated to his guitar and music, and throughout his career he's refused to pigeonhole himself into any single genre, and has played with a tremendous number excellent musicians with all different styles, and every imaginable type of music. He was in Guns & Roses for a few years, and even though he was incredible on-stage, most GnR fans just couldn't make out what was happening. Ozzy Ozborn even wanted him in his band, but when Buckethead refused to get rid of his costume and mask, Ozzy bailed. He was always really driven, playing guitar for 10+ hours a day, and in the early 90s he moved into longtime Guitar Player Magazine editor Jas Obrecht's basement. There he was able to immerse himself in music and had opportunities to meet and jam with artists of all sorts. For a completely different side of Buckethead in an acoustic trio, check out the album he played on with Jonas Hellborg and Michael Shrieve, "Octave of the Holy Innocents."

The most amazing thing other than the music itself is this.. just imagine the number and frequency of calculations that have to be going through his brain as he plays these songs. You have to remember the progression of the notes, the speed at which they are played, the location on the fretboard, the specific string to manipulate with the other hand and the coordination between the two and at those speeds.. it has to be mostly muscle memory at that point. The raw talent, skill, and dedication to his craft is why he is so good. My fingers bleed at the mere thought of the hours of work he must have put in to achieve this level of performance.
@josefgrimm23684 жыл бұрын
You are so right!! As a 17 year old guitarist that's been playing since I was twelve, I have tried and tried to play this song and let me tell you, it is freaking insane!!! @Anomaly1883 жыл бұрын

Behind Buckethead is a man with a fantastic gift that he is happy to share with us, but he also wants to retain his privacy. So please respect that and accept his name as 'Buckethead'. That's all we need to know to enjoy his great skills. We shouldn't need to see his face to get the emotion, a real musician like this can get it all out through his instrument.

The "mic" up front was an audience member recording the audio. He, like many "jam bands" allow the recording and trading of their concerts, so long as you aren't selling them for profit. You don't have to react, but take the time to put on one of his full concerts sometime, so you can catch the nun chuck portion of the show.

It's worth pointing out that Bucket never plays any of his songs in exactly the same way, there is always some improv here and there. So if you listen to any other version of Soothsayer, it will sound pretty different to this one.

Brian Carroll. He played in Guns n Rose's for a bit. Was in another band early on Called Deli Creeps. Played with Bootsy Collins and Bernie Worrell. Also Les Claypool of Primus. Now he writes a lot of music himself. Albums called "Pikes". Close to 300 of them. Gives out toys to fans at his shows. I saw him twice. Unbelievable talent and good person. He tours by himself with music in the background and he plays guitar over it. Great musician who also plays killer slap bass and plays banjo also. Also shows his skills with the nunchucks like a champ! On stage!

He's like Joe Satriani with a bucket and a mask! Something tells me that the reason for the bucket and mask is anxiety in front of a crowd. He feels like he doesn't have to worry about all of that with his mask and bucket. Some people can do amazing things when they don't feel outside pressure

He likely suffers from marfan syndrome, which is a neurological disorder characterized by the sufferer being very tall and thin and having extra long extremities, normally the fingers. All of which Bucket has. He also has a very severe heart condition, that almost forced him to retire around 2016. Another thing associated with the syndrome.

Can't believe no one here mentioned "the vein"... The vein in the back of his picking hand is extremely large, and the one sure tell-tale sign it's Brian Carroll under the bucket.

My guy pulls up his pants halfway through a fat riff and doesn't miss a chord.... Them long skeletal fingers and his inane musical gift. This guy is a wonder in the music scene.

What makes Buckethead "unique" is the tuning. His fingers are so long that using a 6 string in regular EADGBE tuning is not a problem. Even Malmsteen uses drop C or drop D on occasion. The only other guitarist i remember whose hand can span 7 frets on a regular size neck was a guy called Robert Fripp. Buckethead makes the scale runs look like childs play. They really are not!!!!!
@powbobs4 жыл бұрын
odbear100 This is a baritone guitar so a longer scale than normal. 27 inches. Huge hands.
