Hard to explain Buckethead. No one knows for sure who he is. Some theorize that he was under contract with a company when he started his solo career and hid behind the bucket so he didn't get sued and once he was free of the contract he was already "Buckethead". Most everyone agrees that he must have been a student at GIT in Hollywood, because of his similarity to Paul Gilbert in style (Paul teaches there and coincidentally we grew up at the same time, in the same neighboring little towns and played on the small scene before he went to LA). For a while it was rumored that he was Paul but that has since been disproven.

Saw buckethead several years ago at a fairly small venue, maybe 500 people in a bar with a stage, and this was among the songs he played... See all those ridiculously amazing runs and arpeggios and the sheer dexterity of execution, the fantastic sounds he coaxes from his instrument? He did all this with similar near-perfection live when I saw it. This guy is a truly excellent musician, a master of the craft. He has released more than 300 albums of his work. The fact that he chooses to perform with a KFC bucket and generic face mask, rather than pursuing personal fame and recognition and adulation, to me is just icing on the cake.

Buckethead is a unique, insanely talented player. You don’t really have to soak your finger lol we guitarists develop callouses on our fingertips that make playing a lot less painful. Building those callouses is the painful part, hours upon hours of non stop playing to where your fingers feel like they’re gonna bleed. Takes maybe a week of decent playing time to develop. His right hand is just amazing, his picking technique is flawless, he only moves his wrist and fingers, never his forearm.

He's been around awhile, and he's worked with a LOT of other musicians, but most of the music he's done is solo. Some notable artists he's worked with: Bootsy Collins, Les Claypool (Primus), Guns 'n' Roses, even Viggo Mortensen (Lord of the Rings, Aragorn), and he could have played with Ozzy Osbourne, but he wouldn't take the bucket off, so Ozzy wouldn't have it. Bucketman is a true wizard on the axe.
