But many years later the two guitarists and the singer from Judas Priest did an acoustic version of the rock version they did to cover Joan's song, lol!! I'm going to go find those versions and add them to this comment. Even if you don't review it publically, please please hear it. It will fascinate you as to what they do with this song. The main difference between her and Joni Mitchell is that Joan interpreted other people's songs (excepting this one and a few others) And Joni wrote. And wrote and wrote. I love both of them. She's supremely accomplished musically; one of the best folk rockers ever. I always thought her politics was a little contrived but compared to today she's just another liberal performer. There are some real nutcases out there in 2024. But I never paid attention to any performer's politics, if they had this kind of talent I couldn't care less. Imagine not listening to Streisand simply because she's a lefty; she and Baez had the most perfect voices of the era. Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, they all were in a class of their own and held a special place in my eclectic music library.

Bob Dylan was not cheating on anyone by having an "affair" with Joan Baez. Neither of them were married, and he was actually still healing from a broken heart when they first met and eventually had a romantic relationship. Baez admitted she was venting feelings from her held resentment, harbored hurt/ anger towards Bob when she wrote Diamonds and Rust. It must have been a great catharsis for her because eventually she got back on the good foot and as friends with Bob once again. Btw, the production value is incredible for the whole album. To this day I consider it one of the best produced studio recordings/albums I have ever heard.

Two legends together ! Great album, fabulous Lady I loved at first sight for her voice and integrity. She was a star out from music industry and show business. That was time when we thoughed we'll change the world ... and she was the voice with Bob Dylan and few others of our hangers and hopes . Hugh from Morocco 💖

Hi Martyn, I got to see her in concert about five years ago when she played Canberra, Australia. She began by saying that she couldn't reach all the high registers she used to, but during the course of the concert she managed to attain that clarity and range. She got a standing ovation. I'll never forget it, as I've been a fan since the 60s. She was so natural, her voice is huge, she really doesn't need a Mike. Cheers.

"You strayed into my heart" isn't about cheating, it's about Dylan making his way into her heart without intent. They weren't brought together by an act of will, but by randomness (Dylan was "temporarily lost at sea") and their short love story took place because their path happened to cross at this exact moment in their life. Baez was already an established folk singer at the time and Dylan was just a vagabond-looking guy to the eyes of the world ("The unwashed phenomenon/The original vagabond"). And she took care of him, clothed him ("I bought you some cufflinks") and protected him ("Yes, the girl on the half-shell/Would keep you unharmed"). But one day he just left the way he came, breaking her heart in the process, and that's what this song is about. Edit : Their love was very one-side, she was extremely giving and he was not (while she took care of him, he brought her "something"). This song is her way of making sense of her relationship with Dylan, but also coming to terms with the fact that sometimes love is also about giving and expecting nothing in return. In "Love Song to a Stranger" she writes about this as well : "Don't tell me of love everlasting and other sad dreams I don't want to hear. Just tell me of passionate strangers who rescue each other from a lifetime of cares. Because if love means forever, expecting nothing returned, then I hope I'll be given another whole lifetime to learn."
