Stanford's business education is gatekept behind their criminally low acceptance rate, and I don't think that's fair. So today, I sat down and broke down the 5 key lessons that I learned during my time at Stanford so that I could save you 2 years of your life, and $250,000 in Student Loans.
This video is a bit of a beast, but I promise you if you watch the whole thing (and maybe take some notes while you're at it), you will be equipped with the fundamental knowledge to go out and crush it in the business world.

I went to MIT full time MBA. The value to me wasn't really the education at this point besides financial modeling and accounting. Like him talking about Porters 5 forces is good if you want to do entrepreneurship, but 90%+ don't go into entrepreneurship. They do thinks like IB, consulting, PM at Tech. The value to me now is solely the name of MIT on my resume that has gotten me a really high paying job. Not gonna lie.

One of the best business summaries I've ever seen as a self made multi millionaire entrepreneur with 14 years of experience. Hi @JoshGe, your comment really stood out to me. It's amazing to hear from someone who's been so successful in business. I’m really interested in real estate, especially flipping houses. I've got the skills to create spreadsheets to evaluate deals and forecast profits, but I don’t have the connections to get started. Are you open to sharing a bit about what you do and giving some advice? Your experience could be super helpful for someone like me trying to break into the field of entrepreneurship.
@JoshGe
@JoshGe 4 күн бұрын
@@luisrosario432 Hi thanks for the comment and this thread has been one of the only times I've been commenting and replying on youtube. I started doing business at 18 starting businesses with no money down like freelance modeling agency and events organization I then took the money I made and started a few small local tech companies (I'm from Singapore) now I invest my own money in various private SMEs as well as the public markets. This year I'm launching a Trading Card game. The best advice I feel are extremely general yet don't get talked about enough. The 2 best advice I always give are 1: Take care of your health while doing business- most people forget that. 2: be person of great character. Having great character isn't about being nice it's about taking care of people and doing what is right even though it's the hard thing. Also I'll like to clear up one misconception people have. Most people before they get rich they think once you have the money you can chill or that the job's done. The fact is you can lose all your money easily. Personally I went from millionaire to broke to multimillion already 3x haha and I once saw an interview where phil helsmut said the average millionaire goes from millionaire to broke to millionaire again TWENTY times!! Which is insane to think about. So it's important to be a good person because a lot of very capable people who were on top once and got knocked down could never get up again because no one likes working with them (tons of those in the nightlife business). Also two of the best books to read for business are in my opinion, 'How to get rich by felix dennis' (for all business and business in general) and Zero to One by Peter Thiel which is the best book for the tech business.

The value of a good business school is not so much what they teach you (the curriculum is fairly standard), but in the project co-operation with your fellow students in solving mock (or sometimes real word) problems. And, if you have a chance to ask a professor a few questions after the lecture, it's just invaluable.

Don't forget the impact of external forces on a business proposition. A business may look good from porter's 5 forces analysis, and you may have a competitive advantage, but if the nature of activity can be severely impacted by external forces outside your control, that may be a risk that's not worth taking. I have a business where I lend monies to farmers but I have first handedly experience how a back to back bad harvest can destroy the whole livelihood of farmer, which definitely impacted my cash flows and profits big time, creating such a huge stress for the business and myself.

Also, there is a great little book that very few people have heard of called, The Connectors, that helped me think in terms of growing my network and some actual questions to assess your actions. we used Harvard case studies at our classes and then some more local examples. yep, pretty much the whole 2 year MBA here. :D you can take this video and dive deeper in each topic Jay mentions to read in detail. also the difference of fancy schools is that often the lecturer has worked for one of these big companies or they have developed one of these concepts. that is cool but at the same time some of them are not very interested in teaching selflessly. they do it sometimes to have access to the uni funds for their research projects etc. each lecturer at uni must deliver some classes on top of their research work to work at the lab (in short). also you leave uni with contacts because each coursemate is going to become someone and you can benefit from that.

@@jayhoovy Of course! So... I have a question (you can make a vid if you haven't already too :P) I'm about to launch a blue ocean-type social networking app. I'm super excited. My business partner and I developed the entire thing, but now, as we get into the marketing side of things, we don't really know how to approach it. I know you started with TikTok and were able to transition that audience to Stan + KZbin, but as someone who has no audience currently, how would you approach the marketing aspect of it?

This piece is really well produced. You put a lot of time into that. Great material. It would be handy to quickly sprinkle in PESTLE when looking at valuations. Starbucks is actually a perfect example - it is fair to say that the current and future valuations of Starbucks is being impacted by the current Social movement around the Gaza-related boycott and the Legal impact of the workers union challenge in the courts currently.
