Jay is a real car guy. They tried to sell him on the 8 Speed Auto and he was like where's the stick at? Nothing beats driving a manual.
@Yeeeeeeeehawcowboy Жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly. Even if the auto did shift faster, it doesn’t matter, you feel like you become a part of the car when you are driving stick
@markurbancowboy10 ай бұрын
@Yeeeeeeeehawcowboy I've had this car in a manual and in an auto, and I'll have to agree with Tim on this one; the auto in this car is the one to get. The auto puts the power down much better and in sport and track mode it bangs the shifts like crazy (will chirp the tires 1st going to 2nd and 2nd going to 3rd). The manual the clutch is stiff and the gears are long, you can do 60mph in 1st gear. With the manual you will definitely get a workout if this is your daily. Don't get stuck in traffic, it's pure hell.

the difference between now and then is the biggest and baddest muscle car could be bought by a highschool kid, count the number of kids that own these today and you'll find very few. Why? well because they are out of the range price wise. Base price of a challenger with a hemi was what? like 4500 bucks. Kids could work their tails off a few summers with a part time job and have one in their senior year, now they can't. They try to convince us that we are less poor than we used to be but that's not the case as far as I can tell. Whats the base price of these? oh 60k about 20k over inflation even so who's going to buy one? suits that are looking for a second childhood. No this isn't the rebirth of the muscle car era because we are not the same country we used to be.
@markurbancowboy9 жыл бұрын
pdxeddie1111 Good point. Today's muscle cars are not meant for high school and college kids anymore. They are priced way out of their range. The muscle cars are back, but they are back for working professionals and ect. It's a shame really, but a lot has to do with inflation and the amount of tech in the cars (nothing is basic anymore in them). Remember back even in the 80's when a high school or college kid could save up and get a Fox Body 5.0L Mustang for little of nothing. I remember that's all I saw driving those things back then were kids; now the average age of 5.0 drivers is probably 30. The cars list for about 40K.
@pdxeddie11119 жыл бұрын
markurbancowboy well I doubt these will be worth the same in forty or fifty years, part of being a collectable is not understanding something was going to be collectable or not caring that it would be. Just stamp the word collectable on it and I'm sure it'll be worth a mint someday.
@pdxeddie11119 жыл бұрын
ps what the cars lacked in tech then more than made up for it in raw awesomeness
@markurbancowboy9 жыл бұрын
pdxeddie1111 If you look at it, the muscle cars we have today, trump the ones that were in the past. Today's muscle puts out 300, 400, 500 and 600hp to the wheels with just as much torque! The cars in the past were doing good to get 300 at the motor. We won't even go into the stopping and turning. I agree with you about the rawness of them though. Today's cars just don't have that.
@markurbancowboy9 жыл бұрын
pdxeddie1111 I think today's muscle cars will be collectable even though we are aware of them now. This second emergence of the muscle car will be gone soon and will likely never come again; we are going to more fuel efficient green cars. People who want one, better get them now.

The auto is factually faster. So if your going to buy one for speed dont buy the manual and the clutch is heavy as hell but wears out faster then this thing does the quarter mile...lol
@MrUltraworld8 жыл бұрын
Tori Jenna I drove the manual. The clutch is just fine, it's a twin disk that should last 75k miles. Clutch replacement costs $500 and 3hrs labor, easy to do in the driveway. When the auto fries (and it will burn up), you're looking at at least $3k. The manual is more fun to drive, you have more control over that 700hp.
@DoubleCharged8 жыл бұрын
Fred Garvin the auto is a much better machine than the Manuel. There is no reason that there would be a problem with the automatic. I have owned the automatic and after that I wouldn't own a Manuel. And I'm all for a manual transmission. Just not in the hellcat.
@Cor430vette8 жыл бұрын
Fred your full of it. I own one. You wish you owned one. I have driven manuals my whole life. After doing the research on the manual I opted for an automatic. Why? its slower 1/2 second slower if you know how to race with a clutch, if you don't could be almost a second or 1 1/2 seconds slower. Stiff clutch (too stiff for the crappy clutch they put in these cars) wears down in 10k miles. Wont last 75k unless you drive this car like a girl. You cant change this clutch in the driveway. So your looking at 1k out of pocket every 10k miles. Your choice, but honestly its the worst of both worlds, horrible daily driver ( try pushing that clutch in 100 times in traffic) ( worse gas mileage also. Then you race it and you lose to the A8. So its a worse daily driver and worse racer.....but if having fun shifting is all that maters go buy corvette 2008 corvette for 30k it will be as fast as your manual hellcat and cost you 30k less...
@MrUltraworld8 жыл бұрын
I own a Hellcat, with a manual trans. I don't drag race, I could care less about that. I have never owned a manual trans, and I wasn't going to start now. The clutch is a dual disk design, it's the same clutch I use in one of my other cars and it's dead nuts reliable. I own several other late model muscle cars, they all have 6 spd and 7spd trans, and they are reliable and more engaging to drive.

Is it because it provides a lot of benefits and offers the greatest standard of living to the vast majority of its citizens? If it bothers you so much to live among these idiot celebrities, leave the country and talk crap about America from there. There is no other country id rather live in right now than American even with all its issues. Stop worrying about what other people internationally think of you and do something to better the people and situation around you. If we wanted to be haters we could find things to hate about outside the US. The rest of the world is as screwed up or worse, we have it pretty good here. The liberals are the ones who really are the embarrassment. The vast majority, if not all, of these idiot celebrity's are liberal and explains their idiocy.

+God Save America I only have time to say few things first, then Ill come back and reply to all your ranting. I'm ethnically Taiwanese, born in Taiwan, immigrated here. America is in its infancy compared to the old world and that old world history is not all roses and daisies. You're obviously drinking that propaganda cool aid. The fact you can't just uproot yourself and settle somewhere else says a lot about those countries, they don't like gringos. Illegals with much less than what you have, can come here and make a life and own sh*t and have families. Are you a hippie liberal wanting handouts from the govt and not welling to put in any effort? Yes a lot of native born people here are lazy and allow immigrants who don't squander there chances to make something of themselves show them off. But don't miss the fact that They're doing it here and not where they immigrated from. America is the greatest country in the world presently. Ill say more later.
@godsaveamerica26118 жыл бұрын
+T. Scott you're kind of all over the place. I'm curious what would make America great in your eyes? So far all Im reading from you is that you hate people who do stupid things, so what is it that living here causes people to behave this way and what do you propose happens to change it? In govt, economics, etc? Don't use general answers like better healthcare, better relations between the police and minority groups. The problems you like to point out are on the surface, the end results. What are the root causes, even causes that lie deeper. All I'm getting from you is that you're discontented, angry, resentful, and envious.

I think it should have a system to shut off half the cylinders for when you don't want the full power, because though the power is great fun, I'd love to be able to flick a switch and boost the mileage to go on on trips because 20mpg isn't really good enough in my opinion.
@ShengTooFlash10 жыл бұрын
I am not sure but couldn't you use the valet mode to reduce to 300hp.Wouldn't that boost the mileage
@Munkenba10 жыл бұрын
ShengTooFlash Nah, Jay asked that question in the video, valet mode only reduces power, not fuel consumption.
@jasonc263410 жыл бұрын
Alfred Munkenbeck If I'm not mistaken, I don't believe that would work with the supercharger since it's always making boost. Atleast you can change keys and ride in "stealth" mode lol
@Munkenba10 жыл бұрын
Jason C Maybe a way of inventing a shut off system for the entire supercharger would work, so you have a naturally aspirated engine, but I just think something needs to be done about the mileage, but definitely not an automatic system, just a switch on the dashboard so it doesn't interfere at times you wish it wouldn't.
@Mblake8110 жыл бұрын

OK I have had it with the hate comments about my next new car! 1st off The Nissan GTR is a super car just like the Stingray C7 Z06 they are designed for the track and street the Z06 is only a couple of tenths faster through the 1/4 mile and has 2 less seats than the Hellcat, they are designed to go around a track the Hellcat is a MUSCLE CAR, READ PONY CAR designed for a family man to carry his family around the country while being able to have a lot of fun smoking the tires. This car does corner and is only .4 seconds slower than a Camero ZL1 in the figure 8 and pulls .94g vs .99g for the ZL1 and the ZL1 weighs less, so stop it! Stop comparing super GTR and Z06 and cars like it to a MUSCLE cars cause you look desprate. Like it so much go buy one have fun post the video of you getting smoked cause you can't drive and your excuse that the sun was in your eyes at the drag strip. This car has over 700 HP in order to get over 700 HP you need to spend over $300,000 dollars period, think Lamborghini Aventador LP704, McLaren P1, Ferrari La Ferrari, Ferrari F12 So stop it, just stop it cause every time you bring up cars in this range to say that they have more HP and weigh less the dumber you sound. If you don't like HIGH HORSE POWER PONY CARS WHY ARE YOU HERE? No one cares that your crap box 1988 CRX Honda with a crate engine in it that has to be dragged to the drag strip, has no AC, stereo or sound deading of any kid whatsoever and weighs as much as a flea's fart, and is relevant at the drag strip, but no where else is what you prefer over this monster or else we would be commenting on your channel about how fast it is. You like it I love it but I also love this car, and want to read comments about people who actually like this car as well! The Shelby GT1000 is not a production car, it does not roll off of Ford's production line! How do I know? because the Shelby warehouse is less than 10 minutes from my house! Got cash and a Ford GT 500 they will set you right up with as much HP as you got cash, it's a tuner car with aftermarket upgrades! So stop it, and the GT500 is out of production anyhow and it only had 662HP IT'S NOT UP FOR DISCUSSION, did I want one yes can I get one new NO! Do I want a Hellcat? YES can I buy one new YES! Now I must say this I love to debate cars as much as the next guy, but you guys are really laying on the hate thick! Now if Dodge had said that this was a SUPER CAR or even a SPORTS CAR you might have a point, but this is A MUSCLE CAR and the cars they built back then did not have to have airbags, AC anti-lock brakes and all of the things that these cars have to have built into them today just to be able to be sold, so ya the car is heavy but so was the original Challenger back in the day. If you are concerned with the environment do what I did and build your own EV if you don't like what's out on the market, and sell that and see how hard it is to build a bruiser that can be driven everyday without breaking down every 5 minutes. This is a outstanding feat of engineering to build a production car with 707 HP and slap a warranty on it. Bravo Dodge! My hat is off to you and I will be at the dealer to buy one of your nuclear powered Hellcat Tank busters, as soon as they become available in my area. Rant ends.

+Jose Sustaita And then all the cops just had to have it (Chargers)
@stephenconway92849 жыл бұрын
The cops need a 4 door since there are no more crown victorias or chevrolet impalas. I agree. The charger Hellcat may be fast but only the Challenger has the spirit of the 1970s Challengers
@bobpierce1159 жыл бұрын
+Jose Sustaita Jose, you have to realize that for a LONG time now, auto body styles are beyond limited in availability. There's one assembly line for nearly any one car now, overwhelmingly 4 door. The Charger was ruined for a lot of guys as a 4 door, but not ruined for many, many more. It's been a smashing success due to it's still largely sporty style and power, but with the practicality of a 4 door. Dodge wisely addressed the 4 door "issue" 2 years ago by giving it a Challenger 'flavor' and look yet keeping it the successful (4 door) car it's been for years now. I'm a 2 door car guy myself, and know where you're coming from. Unfortunately, this is the way it's been for decades now, and will be from here on out. It's economics, the market, cars basically being transportation appliances now and more. It's a bummer.
@bobpierce1159 жыл бұрын
+Stephen Conway Stephen I knew there weren't Crown Victoria's any more, but Chevy does make an Impala, newly redesigned last year. Do you know why law enforcement doesn't like the Impala?

wow, the insane thing about this car (there are many but this one in particular), is the fact that it's a 700 plus horsepower car that costs about 60 grand, a little over 60 grand if you want it fully loaded. It's crazy because not too too long ago, the Enzo Ferrari came out with 650, 660 horsepower, and was doing quarter miles in a bout 11 seconds. That car cost about 900 grand when it came out, today they can go for significantly over 1 million. I understand that's a collectable, considering they only made, I believe about 350, 400 of them. But even other non-limited edition cars like the Lamborghini Murcielago, whom can still go for about 250 grand today give or take, had about 590 horsepower. Hell even comparing it with other American Muscle cars like the Corvette Z06 with 505 horsepower went for 72 grand, the 510 horsepower Viper SRT-10 went for 80 grand, and the Ford GT with 550 horsepower, one of the greatest American cars ever build, went for about 160 grand. The Corvette ZR-1 which has about 635 horsepower goes for about 110 grand. So this car is just incredible on quite a few levels. Way to go, Dodge!!

Why does Tim keep pushing the automatic even though it's not as much fun to drive? He brought it specifically because he knew Jay wanted the stick? 3:43 Tim: I knew you wanted the manual so I brought an automatic. That's like saying "I know you wanted french fries so I brought potato chips" Jay's absolutely right in being disappointed he can't get the excitement of the manual transmission. 13:20 An automatic in a car like this is just missing something
@GreenJeep199810 жыл бұрын
The 8 speed might be less.......homicidal than the 6 speed. At least with the 8 speed, the computer should be able to alter the car's behavior to make it more driveable, with the stick shift, you could very well loose a point of computer interference in getting the power to the rear end.
@maxpowers373210 жыл бұрын
GreenJeep1998 Huh? With the manual you control what gear you're in and hence where you are on the hp and torque curve. With the automatic you've got no clue what the computer is doing and you can get yourself in more trouble by just mashing the gas pedal if it kicks down to the lowest gear when you're expecting to be in a high one. The automatic isn't as much fun to drive, so why would he bring a "drivers car" where a computer does half the driving? They don't think you're capable of driving yourself?
@georgeharding418010 жыл бұрын
maxpowers3732 I agree, if you get this car it DESERVES a manual. The Auto in this car isn't even that fast, some cars have DCT's that shift in half the time of this Auto.
