I can't imagine why anyone in their right mind wouldn't want better weight distribution. @MrDownRater3 жыл бұрын
@@plane_guy6051 I followed that build, if you can please check out Guy Martin's video about that Beetle. He is a great lad. But the reason is because he (the hungarian guy) wanted the same feel what you got and love in an old air-cooled Porsche. And if we talkng about perfect balance, they did the same, the battery is in the front, but everything else (inverter, motor, etc.) are in the back. It has a 48-52% front-back weight distribution. The 912 had a smaller and lighter engine so it had a better balance than the 911.

Great transmission answer. ive been asking that question for years, this engineer guy really knows his stuff.
@jonathanjohnson83763 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is hard to explain why electric vehicles only use one gear while an internal Combustion engine can need up to 10 gears to do the same thing, without having to explain how a transmission works. Both motors and engines use transmissions, but the ICE has a smaller power band (the RPM that provides the needed power), so it needs multiple gears to spread that power over a wider range of speeds. While a motor provides most of its torque at 0 RPM and can be most efficient at 5,000 RPM. The transmission for the motor is often a compromise of power and efficiency, but if you want a really high top speed (like 200 or more MPH [322km/h]) you will need a second gear for the motor.

Around Germany, a lot of countries in Europe doesn’t allow you to use their roads with vehicles that don’t have actual emission standards and that is a huge problem for older cars. As the Owner of a 1968 Porsche 912 for the past 13 years, I cannot see any Real Value in changing a Classic Car into a Soundless, Gearless, Rangeless, vehicle. What I value about the 1968 Porsche is the Smell when I get in (Old Gas & Oil), the Sound on Startup and while Driving. Also, the ability to drive in 5 Gears w/ Manual Transmission. BTW Jay that was 90 DIN HP or 102 SAE HP from Porsche in Stutgart. Wow! Now I can floor it in my Porsche and not be bothered by that awful noise a classic Porsche usually makes. I hope they will add robotics soon so I don't even have to drive it (which tires my arms). I hope to soon just sit on my couch and use just one remote control to send the Porsche for a drive, vacuum the rug and cut the lawn. What a brave new world it is.

I can't believe it's only 300 lbs more. That's incredible I expected 1000 more. That's just like having a fat passenger with you lol. Not a big deal at all especially for how much more torque this thing would have. And the fact one can go back to stock is sweet. It's the prefect situation for an old style electric car.

Extra weight gain might actually be less. While they mentioned the weight of the original engine, trans and exhaust, they forgot to factor in the added weight from a full tank of gas!

Trent is an amazing engineer! Jey, please do a conversion with these guys and make a small series out of it. Maybe inside the Restoration Update Videos. I always had the strange idea we’d sell two metal strips down a highway and the electric cars with two brushes just like a race car set. Did it with overhead street car wires. Remove the need for heavy batteries. Maybe parking lots with induction charging? Never worry about plugging in to charge. Sounds crazy, so did electric vehicles years ago
