Jay's comment towards the end was very revealing, especially for a car enthusiast. People kind of thought or perhaps still think the Boxster and Cayman are the downgrades or economy Porsches. In fact, they are sublime and a joy to own and drive. It's really about the way a car or motorcycle makes you feel, not the supreme power or label.

I purchased a 718 at the end of 2021. I dreamt of owning a boxster when I was younger but never thought I'd be able to afford one. Fast-forward, I'm 23 at the time carving through the seaside clifftops of highway 1 -- carefree and loving the sound of the engine and the feel of the transmission. Part of me wants to upgrade to the RS as it will be the last gen that isn't electric -- but there is something so charming about the 718 even without a flat 6 in it.

I recently got an '03 S. It truly is a joy to own and drive. What sold me on getting one was my dad and I took his '99 to Colorado Springs almost 2 years ago. We've been a couple times and always love going around the mountains. It was a life changing experience driving the mountains top down, just being able to look up and see the mountains towering over you, unobstructed. I'm looking forward to going back this year with my own, just the 2 of us cruising the mountains in our Boxsters.

I purchased our 2000 Boxster in 2020. Our Covid car. Spent that summer cruising all over Nova Scotia. We absolutely love it and call it "Celine Dijon" (it is Speed Yellow). It is pure fun. That said, I just purchased a 2003 Boxster S also in Speed Yellow. It had belonged to a dear friend who passed away in May. I get to look after it and love it like he did. Now to name it! I don't need two Boxsters but I'm attach to both.

But the reason why I said the Boxster 986 as the car that saved Porsche was because I was talking about a specific time in the 90s where there was a big recession and at the time Bugatti went bust and would not return till 10 years after but the 986 was what saved Porsche at that time as an affordable sports car and it did so well that they couldn’t keep up with demand now we have the Cayenne and Macan as I would say the best SUV and crossover on the market and that’s helping Porsche make the Speedster, GT3, GT4, GT2, Panamera, and Taycan and they’re still going to keep on making sports cars! It’s great to see Jay enjoying a Boxster. Here in the UK I daily drove a Soeed Yellow 2000 Boxster S manual with 90,000 miles on it for 4 years. It was a joy to own. Not 1 thing went wrong on it and when I came to sell it it sold in just 1 day for just £100 less than I paid for it 4 years earlier. I run errands in mine and it's good for groceries, etc. Consumables can be expensive (tires, etc) and a "cheap" oil change will probably run you near $200 if you don't do it yourself. I just took my RS-60 Spyder on a fairly long road trip (probably 3k miles) and it performed flawlessly, but I noticed that when I got further from the coast, there were 0 Porsches. Like, I did not see a single one after I got out of Maryland, so that could be an issue if you live somewhere where a dealership is your only repair option, because from what I've seen their prices seem to be about 3x that of a reputable repair shop, even on things like oil changes. Thanks for another great video Jay. I was at the 1997 launch in Phoenix as a Porsche employee. I can't believe it's been 25 years. One bit of information for you; you wondered if Porsche began today if they would have started with mid-engine. They did in 1948! The 356-A was mid engined. They only switched to rear engine for the 911 to provide rear seats for sales potential. All the dedicated race cars have been mid engined since. Oh and your guest never answered your drag coef question. The original boxster was very low @ .31.

Dear Mr Leno, I've enjoyed many of your garage videos very much. Your sharing of knowledge and details, the time and perfection in care and restoration, the experience of hearing and seeing them on the road. I've heard you talk about a "proper gear box". My mother who recently passed at 96 was a huge fan of yours and I never managed to get her to one of your shows which she would have been thrilled over. Her cousin, Carl Gardella, who also passed was an ultimate car guy, an ace mechanic, held a boat racing record as mechanic for woman driver. I believe he also was into Chords, and sold custom parts for them. Anyway, I'm writing because I lost my viginity, meaning I bought my first 5 speed manual, a 20 year old Porsche Boxster. F'n transmission is giving me headaches! Well I will keep practicing, it's the lights and stops where I stall it. On the road it's wonderful. It is the first car that I enjoy as much as a motorcycle. Just wish I had the automatic! Thanks a lot. hahaha. Thank you for giving my mom years of enjoyment from the Tonight Show to finish up her day.

One point on the video that I would question is I wonder if the trunk on the Boxster 25 is of a different size. I routinely fit my set of golf clubs in my trunk, all clubs in the bag except the driver, which is out of the bag and sitting on the floor of the trunk. My golf cart fits very well in the frunk with room to spare. So golfers need not be concerned, at least not with the 981. 😊
