what I got from all of this is.....it must really suck to have allergies, because then they'd have no choice but to put themselves and the servers through that social humiliation. My bf once accidentally swallowed a lemon seed from a glass of water. He had never swallowed lemon seeds and didn't know that people with nut allergies are often also allergic to citric seeds. went into anaphylactic shock and have to be rushed to the hospital. But even after ALL of that, he hates going to new restaurants because the fear of social confrontations>death.

I have social anxiety and food allergies and yes it absolutely does suck. My food allergies aren't life threatening, they range from "I will need benadryl and be intensely miserable for 3 hours" to "I'll be moderately miserable for a week", so my anxiety rationalizes "well...it won't kill me so I will pretend nothing is wrong". I regret it every time. (And then I regret it more if someone notices I'm having an allergic reaction because they're like, wtf dude you should have just sent it back. I know. I know I know I know and now that they've noticed, I've made a scene when that is /exactly/ what I was trying to avoid)

Just remember, if your food is messed up, it is pretty much NEVER the driver's fault so ALWAYS tip. In many states delivery drivers only make $3/$4 an hour so if they don't get tipped they're getting completely screwed. And even if you think your pizza is late because of the driver, trust me, that's usually never the case either. It's not in the driver's interest to be late! So always tip $2 MINIMUM and if you don't like it, don't order delivery until companies stop getting away with paying delivery drivers - who are literally risking their lives to bring you food, especially on heavy rain/snow days!

As someone who works in fast food, trust me when I say we don't usually mind if you come back (or call back if it was from drive thru/take out) and will normally replace the order (as long as it's within reason). But then, also at the same time, I basically get a borderline anxiety attack whenever I order at a restaurant because i'm also terrified that I'm being the worst customer ever and taking up too much time. So like, don't worry I get where people are coming from.

I hate when an order goes wrong because I feel bad about it even though it's not my fault. The other day I ordered a veggie burger from McDonald's but got a chicken one instead and had to go back because I'm vegetarian otherwise I would have been like nvm and I felt really bad. They swapped it for the correct burger and gave me extra chips I didn't need and refunded me and I felt very bad for the inconvenience. I didn't even ask for all that all I wanted was the correct burger.

I got a burger from a diner recently and they gave me one with fried egg on it, which would absolutely turn my stomach if I ate it. My awkward brain just thought “I’ll eat around it” until my mother looked over and told me that she recalled me being allergic to avocado. Once, my friend (who was driving) and I went through the drive through at Taco Bell, and I ordered a taco with no cheese. They gave me a taco with just cheese (just cheese in a shell). So we went back and stated the order again, my friend was scolding them for getting it so wrong, and they gave me a normal taco with cheese and I was like "this is fine I guess" and my friend said "NO ITS NOT!" and went back through and ordered again and I just felt so bad. My father would routinely order a hamburger with nothing on it at whatever drive-thru he stopped at- just the bread and the meat, nothin' else. Once upon a time he ordered it in the drive-thru, got home, opened the wrapper around this hamburger, and was greeted by two slices of bread. Having nothing to due being the retiree he was he went back and asked "how did you fuck this up". They made him a new one, he opened it in the parking lot, and they'd done it again. I don't understand how you fuck that up _twice_.

Nelly Orange idk about Taco Bell, but when I worked at McDonalds, I would sometimes mistake "no *ingredient*" with "only *ingredient*" because they were color coded on the screen but they were red and orange respectively. So they looked the same to a lot of people, and if you were rushing to get orders in it was easy to mistake red for orange and make a cheeseburger that was just a bun and some cheese when the customer actually wanted a hamburger with no cheese. And some employees have more common sense than others. I would definitely check with the person running drive thru to make sure the customer ACTUALLY wants a taco/sandwich/whatever with just cheese, but others either don't care or don't even think about it, so you get weird mistakes like this.

There have only been two instances where a wrong order pissed me off. Once, at McDonald's, I got a "sandwich" that was literally a chicken patty and a single pickle between two buns. No condiments, no lettuce. The other time was at a Wawa, where I ordered an iced vanilla chai and I got a goddamn iced vanilla LATTE. Both times I was halfway home by the time I realized, and I wasn't gonna waste the effort to drive back. Usually tho idgaf if an order is a bit wrong. I know they'll just throw it away so I just eat it anyways because I HATE wasting food if I can avoid it.

When a restaurant gets my order wrong, what usually happens is either I let it go or they take it back and make me another one but really the ideal scenario that I would want is that I get to keep the mistake one so that I have a full meal too easy later after I've eaten at the restaurant. That or at least I get to mix and match for variety's sake.
