For the trailer brakes you should look at automatic trailer brakes. Basically, you have a hydraulic master brake cylinder built into the hitch mechanism, when the hitch gets compressed by the trailer overrunning the tow vehicle the brake cylinder also gets compressed applying the brakes.

This was one of the coolest videos I've ever seen. What an ingenious setup. I think you've thought of everything and the quality looks top notch. I especially liked the quick connect hydraulic brakes and the dual sided yolk trailer assembly. I'm currently riding a couple recumbent with standard Co-pilot trailers. I love this lifestyle and I'm getting my 2 boys into it quite a bit too. Subscribed, liked and will be following intently!

Great setup. Thanks for sharing your build. That trailer is FANTASTIC. A small front wheel for use as a grocery cart would make it perfect. I'm currently seriously thinking of ditching my vehicle for a do-it-all bike setup. I'm over 50 and was rendered homeless in part by the 2020 fires and I need something like an e-assist off-road farm utility truck-bike to get groceries and stay fit. I'm undecided about what to choose. I'm looking at quads like TrikExplor and Pony4...... tadpoles like yours, but with fat tires for beachcombing, or a delta like the Hase Kettweisel or Chooch. The options out there are staggering. I'm sick of our expensive, disposable, car-centric culture and want to do my part in changing the world for the bettter. Bicycle RV's are plentiful in places like Germany. I'd love to see more people develop these. For awareness I think everyone should watch "Stroads" by Not Just Bicycles.

I will learn more as I ride, but am glad to see you recommend the stand up helpers and that you have the neck rest attached. I opted out of those, but am thinking I need to add them. Man that is a complicated set up! I've ridden across the US and through the mountains of California and Oregon and then back to my home in southern California along the west coast. In both tours I road my 2005 Catrike Trail with just a rear rack and some Arkel pannier bags. Even with a simple set up like that I had some problems. Of course the only movie I was making was in my mind.

Matt, your main challenge is not weather, fatigue, or even mud splashing up... it's the thousands of vehicles that not only need to see you but navigate around that beautiful, but WIDE trailer. Your cute little yellow flag and yellow frame are woefully inadequate. You need a BIG yellow and red reflector on the back of that trailer. Something like the Amish put on the back of their buggies.
@6maxgrinder5497 жыл бұрын
Mike, the trailer is slightly wider than shoulder width.
@kokopelli3147 жыл бұрын
I spend a lot of time on the road with various bikes. The biggest problem is not visibility. In spite of what people SAY about my visibility, the way people ACT is that they see me just fine, but feel entitled to take stupid chances when passing. This applies to about 10% of drivers. In my opinion, ALL automobile operators should be required to pass annual tests and a 1m safe zone around cyclists should be enforceable with heavy fines or loss or driving privileges.
@dehoedisc72474 жыл бұрын
Mike Buettell There are many unfortunate persons of the Amish persuasion who are injured or killed every year, so the use of their substantial red reflective device is No Assurance of safety.

We used Arkel 'bent' panniers on our Hase Pino for our 2012 End to End in the UK. Even with waterproof covers, stuff inside still got damp, so I suggest - unless they have improved the design - you wrap crucial content inside plastic bags. Jiayou!

The drone box blew my mind. The whole video I was thinking about where I would carry my Phantom with me if I were going on a trek of some type...then you opened that hardshell and there it was. Amazing setup you've got there!!!
@JaYoeNation8 жыл бұрын
took me a while to find one that fit to convert it over. Hindsight, i would like to find a box that would allow me the ability to store the drone with the props attached, so i dont have to assemble the drone every time.
@Gimpdiggity8 жыл бұрын
I looked long and hard for a storage solution that kept the props on the quad, but ultimately found that most of the options out there in some way, shape, or form ended up putting some pressure on the blades from the egg-shell foam in the top of the case. This pressure, over time, I've been told can cause the props to very slightly warp. Now, I'm not sure if that's actually true or not...and if you're using the quad regularly it probably wouldn't be a problem...but for me it was enough to steer me away from storage with the props on. I'd rather take a few seconds to thread them on then end up with the quad not flying correctly due to some slightly misshaped props.

I love this setup! If you haven't thought of it yet, you might want to consider mounting an AIRZound horn just below the brake handle so you can alert cars of your presence just by pressing down the ball of your hand on the trigger. I have had one on my trike and can brake and blast the horn simultaneously. It's so loud that I was able to alert cars behind me approaching from around a blind curve while riding in Yosemite - they slowed down and gave me the clearance I needed.

The Scorpion Plus gives you a higher sitting posture that allows you to be seen easier and SOONER. LONG DOUBLE WHIPS in the rear will let you connect the parallel whips to each other to keep them from scissoring. It will also give you a convenient place to put a super bright flashing light pointed backwards at the 6 ft. high or higher level. This gives ALL stacked up and impatient drivers behind you a super early opportunity to see you OVER the tops of the preceding vehicles. One of the most dangerous traffic scenarios involves stacked up vehicles quickly coming up behind you and during a rushed time of day. Morning, end of lunch hour, and late afternoon.

I ditched the trailer after a few thousand km due to my knee tearing up on me. Most of the other components were great. I did upgrade the gearing somewhat. You can search my videos for schlumpf and see the most current ones. As for cost.... I keep that to myself. You can find most of that info with a few calls. It was not cheap.

Hello all. Former road now ultra runner. Looking into trike. I know this setup is not for speed but with so many viewing hoped someone would be able to tell me on a trike such as an ice vtx what type of average speed could you hold? Could you keep up with a road bike group ride?

wow i really love this whole set , the only thing is i would want the trailer to be something my large dog can sit in instead of a trunk. im planning a cross country bike trip from california to new york. this would be perfect! im kinda afraid to ask what this all cost

An impressive setup. I know you're not worried about the weight, but I'm worried about it for you. I've done some touring before and my first few times I realised I was just not travelling light enough. I know with all your camera gear you'll never be able to travel very light, but still... Mountain roads are going to be interesting.

+TheAegisClaw I already rode the mountains of inland china for 3 months... so i had some practice fully loaded.

+the JaYoe Nation how will this trip take you?
@pwood57332 жыл бұрын
So do you lean forward and press the front gear button whilst in motion on trike
@JaYoeNation2 жыл бұрын
No need or lean forward. Just shift any time. Just better to take a split second to stop rotation to take some resistance off the gear.
@chrisridethatbloodything2044 Жыл бұрын
I think you can operate it by foot. While rolling.

How much does the entire vehicle weigh with all that gear? It looks very heavy, and must be slow up hills, downhill, watch out!
@JaYoeNation8 жыл бұрын
downhill is FUN AS HELL! uphill less though.. haha. I think my riding trike and gear weight was 280 lbs... not including me.
