I have been type one for 19 of my 30 years of life in Ontario just like your boy. It is so much more manageable now than when I was a kid. The technology is great now from when I was a kid. I still fish all the time and hunt all the time. He will be fine with parents like you guys.

You’re all going to be fine! I was diagnosed at age 9. That was 44 years ago. Get on the insulin pump as soon as possible. No more shots. Then get the Dexcom 7 and let it tell you his blood sugar every 5 minutes with no more finger sticks! His pump will be his new pancreas and he will be fine! Love you brother!! Messsge me if you have any questions. I’m also a registered nurse for 7 years now in my old age of 53.:)

Hey Jay, I just met you at the Toronto Sportsman’s Show on the weekend. I’m a little behind in watching your videos otherwise I would have said something there. I’ve been a type 1 diabetic for 39 years. Still going, and it’s all because of God. Praying for your family and especially Hannon. God is good! He’s on your side, and will always be there through the tough days.

My daughter got diagnosed with T1D two years ago. She was a month away from turning 17. After a yearly check up her doc told me to drive her to the hospital, they know your coming. Don’t stop until you get there. It was intense. After about 1 hour in her room they sent us to the PICU. Where we spent the next two days on an insulin drip and learning the new challenges she/we would face. It’s super scary, but it does get better. I do still have dexcom on my phone so I’m alerted when she gets too low or too high. Again, stay positive, people have been living a normal life with T1D for a long time. Just an adjustment.

It's a fairly big learning curve. But, you'll be fine. My sister was diagnosed when she was 7 and it was a huge life change for my family. We learned to live a lifestyle that fit her. Once she was able to get an insulin pump it was life changing. Made things so easy for her. You guys got this!

Perspective is everything in those situations. You and sam seem to have a great perspective on it all. Take it all in, learn everything you can. My daughter had 6 surgeries from day 1 to just under 1 year old. Two air flights and 6 months total in the hospital. Today is her 1 year anniversary from open heart, and she'll be 1 and a half in 2 days. It's a never ending battle. You guys are a wonderful family and it's very obvious that you'll handle it all really well. Hannen's a lucky dude.

Hey have you ever thought about a small wind turbine 400/600 W. I have designed and installed autonomous water quality stations for remote areas. Initially we run into issues just using solar, later I added 400W wind turbines like the Primus Air-X or the Coleman 400W Wind turbine. Both have a build in charger. While the solar panels have no chance to reach 100 nominal power during the winter. The wind turbine can charge your batteries within hours, doesn't even have to run the whole time. I do not understand why most (not all) solar installation companies do not offer a combination. The rotor diameter is just 4ft. You can put them a foot above the centerline of you roof, if you want, or a small tower. I have seen examples were people had solar and 4 or 5 of the 400W turbines along the centerline of their roof.

I haven’t commented much in my attempts to marathon watch all your videos but I’ll chime in here. Feeling powerless as something happens to your immediate family, especially wife or child is the worst feeling in the world. When my third child came into the world she had a prolapsed chord and my wife had to be rushed into surgery for an emergency c-section. All I could do was sit and cry feeling that one of them wouldn’t come back through the door. Fortunately that wasn’t the case and everything turned out fine.

My wife has T1D and was diagnosed at 6. It's tough. Continue to learn everything you can about about the disease. I know you mentioned all the diabetic training you and your wife had to do and my best advice is to teach all of the information you are consuming to all that will listen. My wife and I got together 10 years ago. She hasn't gone into DKA since she was 6 until September of last year. While I was sick with Covid she had her CGM and Site for her pump fail. She skyrocketed into the 700s for her blood glucose levels. We missed her signs going into DKA and I ended up finding her passed out. Thankfully, I got her to the hospital and she was able to recover. I forgot the DKA signs and I wish I hadn't. Stay strong I'm sending all my love to your entire family

Thoughts and prayers. Once you've been in a situation like that, hard not to feel for someone else going through it, no matter what it is, it's your kid. Faith, attitude and perspective can't always move the mountains in front of us, but they sure do help with dealing with navigational challenges and hurdles. And act as the gps through the fog of the unknowns.
