Some prefer to lose using conventional than win with the unconventional. Celtics use Tatum as a Star but in a new way that's not conventional. The analysts, professional and amateur, can either change -- admit they were wrong about what they thought was best -- OR they can say Tatum sucks, even as he wins the NBA Finals.

I would agree, and not just towards the Celtics. I'm a Mavs fan and the Celtics were the better team. Nobody gave the Mavs a shot getting to the Finals and constantly down played Luka's amazing year. The NBA has their own business agenda and it's all about what's best for the league. Remember the NBA is a product that needs to be sold.

I am a Celtics fan in the UK. Been watching the team for 8 years ago. Staying up til 5 in the morning most play off's. And I have been so disgusted by the media. Tatum is a top 5 player, he showed up when it mattered for his team. And this Celtics team had a great season, all the media says is 'they won't repeat and they didn't play anyone. Its just disgusting. I liked what Skip Bayless said and the truth, and Green said. Apart from that its just nonsense pulling Tatum down for some reason.

Bro, what was so crazy to me is how Tatum during the playoffs averaged 25-10-6 on 1% worse shooting than Luka did in the same playoff run…so how tf did Luka get talked about like he’s the best player in the league while Tatum gets dumped on to the point that he’s not even the best player on his team anymore?😂😂 these people are beyond dumb, man…but we also know they just NEED something to talk about. That's exactly the point Gilbert Arena was making, all the other teams in the league knows JT is Celtics best player because of the way they defend him, their defense plan is to stop JT first, that's why JB and the others are able to do what they do. Without JT attracting the double team, sometimes triple team, they don't get those easy opportunities.

You know how we know Tatum is a top 5-10 player?? They constantly talk about and compare others to him. The reason the Celtics won it all and others shined as well, was in large part because of JT. He draws double and triple teams all game leaving others open or 1v1, and he took a step back this year to let everyone shine. I stopped watching MSM because it’s literally a bunch of morons who know very little to nothing about sports. People hate JT for no reason, so it pays to talk bad about him. Tatum is a generational guy who could score 99 pts and be critiqued for not getting 100. Who could win, probably and most likely will, his first of potentially multiple Finals MVPs next year and would be critiqued because he doesn’t have 2. It’s a joke and complete stupidity when it comes to the hate my dawg gets 😂 A top 5 guy who has broken MULTIPLE records in not only Celtic’s history but League history. Few negative while a vast, vast majority are AMAZING. A guy who will most likely win a regular season MVP in his career, multiple chips, All NBA’s, All Stars, Conference Finals, and Finals Appearances. A do it all guy who never has any issues off the court. A true number one option who is willing to take a back seat so his “partner in crime” can not only thrive but succeed in his own right. Guys like Ja, who can’t seem to gain any understanding of how stupid (not ignorant he is), whom I love as a athlete, get praised for what he hasn’t done in his career instead of scrutinized. Zion even in a lot of cases. He can’t stay healthy, can’t keep himself out of drama off the court w/ his personal life. Ant, who is generational as well, is even being put over JT and JB and he hasn’t even achieved half of their careers, individually. It’s honestly laughable 😂 “Envy keeps your pockets empty so just focus on you…” is true, unless you’re a tool like most reporters and analysts in the media. #BleedGreen Take care, God bless! 🙏

Tatum is the most talented player on the team and the leader but Brown is better at the clutch. Tatum did get 55 points in the All-Star game so his potential for greatness is there. Once he becomes consistent toward the last 2 minutes of the game hitting the winning shots or passing it to the correct teammate (Which he did more of this season and the Championship proved it.) the sky's the limit for him. Confidence will eventually take him there. Maybe this championship may start the consistency that he has lacked. I wish him well!

Watching Tatum over the years, he has had this bad habit of forcing shots during crunch time or playing too much iso-ball. But in this playoffs, and the finals in particular, he had much better shot selection, went strong to the hoop more often, and was more of an all-around savant of the game. He's clearly the best player on the team, and this title and the way he went about winning it is the ultimate vindication for him. It's a pleasure to watch him and I'm looking forward to see how he develops even further in the future.

He shot poorly all playoffs, by his standards, and he really needs to tinker further with his shot selection. His jumper had the yips, and his midrange game has disappeared. He obviously felt the pressure and at the same time, he does so much for running the Boston offense. Brown, I think, is the emotional leader of the team at this point (clearing Marcus Smart has improved their poise exponentially), and Tatum's sacrifice to allow his teammate to shine has affected his overall numbers. This offseason, he should embrace the role of playmaker more since he has so many shooters around him. But I would like to see him dominate on offense as he did two seasons ago. Perhaps having the monkey off his back would allow him to play more naturally next season.

I don't know what he did but the hate for him is personal it's beyond Basketball. The best duo in the league by far and how does the media repay them by trying to split them apart spreading false narratives. They give every other star their flowers some have never even went as far as Tatum. If you listen to the media and didn't watch with your eyes you'll think Tatum average 5 2 and 3 with 20% shooting from the field a bona-fide scrub that belong on the bench

Uncut Hoops, the issue is not whether he is a superstar, best player on his team or a top 5-6 NBA player or not. He is all of the aforementioned description and Celtics would not win the title without Tatum. It's just his lack of scoring consistency and disappearing acts from time to time. There is no doubt his all around game has improved and almost reached elite level but his scoring efficiency can hurt his team if the rest of his teammates goes cold and can't buy a bucket. It is excusable only because his teammates could pick up the slack.

Maybe the pressure of winning one chip has gotten to him, and post-game 5 his emotional state was indicative that he was affected by the chirping. One thing he needs to outgrow is complaining about calls. He's done a better job this season but it crops up at the most inconvenient times. He could also develop his midrange game so he can generate more easy baskets as needed like SGA does.

Over the past seven seasons the stats don't bear out that Jaylen Brown is a better player than Tatum and it's not particularly close. The eye test doesn't support the contention either. Yes, Jaylen has won big games for the Cs but until this past year he often went awol, frequently tried to play hero ball unsuccessfully and was a turn-over machine who still can't even shoot free throws consistently well. Tatum is taller, longer has a better shot, better passing, better free throws and better rebounder. It is to Jalen's credit he is making the conversation close, but fact is Tatum is bigger, younger, more talented and always will be. I don't remember JB ever being double-teamed and in the past other teams often let him take open threes, since if he was cold he was ice-cold. Final proof is Kendrick Perkins thinks Jaylen Brown is the better player, nuff said..

The media and many casual fans are enamored with high-volume shot takers. Tatum at one point bought into this hype, and to some degree he is still playing this way, thus leading to poor shot selection. I believe he should embrace the playmaker/game manager role more as he did these playoffs. More Magic and less Jordan/Kobe. On his offensive bag, he could improve his post game and mid-range shot creation.

What more do the jackals at ESPN want? Tatum is a young player who was mature enough to change up his game and become a Swiss army knife. He gives the team whatever they need on any given night and still averages 25 points. Oh, and by the way, he just won a championship... at 26 years old! I'm happy for the kid, and I say that as a UNC alum. Tatum is one of the VERY few former Duke players I'll root for .

JT has figured it out. Even when he averaged 30 points a game, the media thought he was not a top player. He knows now that he will never be fully accepted by them so he gradually becomes a very good playmaker and rebounder as well and the result is a Championship. Just keeping winning them Champ. That is all that matters and you will always have the last word while they keep extolling the virtues of those who do not win it all.

Cap 😂 Game 6 against Milwaukee in 2022 while being down 3-2 scoring 40 while going at it with Giannis (reigning champ and FMVP). Scoring 14 pts in the 4th qtr of Game 6 after not making a field goal just to force it to game 7 and then scoring 51 in Game 7. Going toe to toe with Bron in a 7 game series as a rookie, the ECF 2018. How about in the finals, after not hitting his shots he decided be play hard nose defense guarding the 1-5 very effectively and being the lead playmaker. 7 assists in a single quarter, most in a finals game since Stockton who had 8. Finishing w/ 18-9-12. Then 9 assists in a half, Game 5, with 0 turnovers. How about 31-8-11 in that same game 😂. Almost leading his team to a 0-3 comeback, getting injured in the first moments of Game 7. If u wanna mention the finals vs the warriors, Brodie had a wrist injury that the media didn’t cover (Boston media did, New England media did). That’s why Wiggins could “lock him down” in the paint, that’s why he couldn’t make a easy layup, that’s why he shot above 40% from 3 for the series after being forced to space out. 😂 If you want more I can give you more 😂

At this point the criticism for Tatum is beyond ridiculous. Better playoff resume than most of his peers around the league. Plays elite, versatile defense something that not a lot of his peers can’t do. And can pass the ball as well as shoot and score. He’s so versatile it’s crazy, plus he’s got a ring now smh. He’s top 5 easily, can’t have Embiid in there with only an MVP and no deep playoff runs under his belt. Tatum is winning while LeQueen, Durcant and Steph are all home sitting on their couches. Just give the man his credit for being an elite top 5 player that does everything for a great team. You can’t discredit his position in the league just because his team is great and stacked. Yall never did that for the deck stackers I mentioned earlier smh 💀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

I think u hit the nail on the head; neither one of these guys r controversial and they’re quiet, boring stars. The media don’t get clicks off boring, they get it off of controversy and negativity. Therefore, they’ve created a manufactured storyline to drive ratings. These guys care about winning, & they won. They’ve been a very successful duo at such a young age. The irony is, if JB has a poor shooting performance, but scored 20+, they’ll highlight how he affected the other end while scoring 20; however, if JT has an off shooting night, scores 20+, gives u 7 asst, 9+ rbs, & plays effective defense, they’ll only focus on his poor shooting. Quite comical, & it’s why I don’t listen to the talking heads b/c 95% of them r inept & clueless. They just talk loud w/ a camera on them.

Tbh, i kinda agree on tatum not being on the top ten players, i definitely put him behind jokic, sga and luka, and potentially behind kyrie, davis, kawhi, giannis, durant, brown, mitchell, sabonis and maybe even others. I am not saying he is for sur not top ten, but i don't find it egregious to say he is not top ten. Celtics have such good role players and bench, miles ahead from any other team, that their succes is not relying on their best 2 players only. Vs the mavs, I am willing to agree that the mavs had the best 2 players on the field, but the next best mavs player would be 8th on the celtics roster. IMO it's refreshing to see a team win without mainly relying on a big 2/3, but with the 7/8 members having a big contribution to the title.
