Jayson Tatum - Superb Separation Part 1

Jayson Tatum was THE leading scorer on a team that went to the conference finals in 2017-18. His three contemporaries are as follows: LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and James Harden. For a rookie (and one who only turned 20 years old in March) to feature in the company of 3 MVPs is something else. Besides that, Jayson Tatum helped guide the Boston Celtics to a 55-27 record following the loss of arguably their best player in Gordon Hayward in the first few minutes of the season, and Kyrie Irving succumbing to injury in the middle of it.
How does he do it? Well. Tatum has been working with Drew Hanlen since he was 13 years old. To my understanding, Hanlen didn’t work with kids that young, but made an exception at the urging of Bradley Beal. His footwork is as pristine as they come, his jumper is smooth, and his moves are silky sweet and SO SHIFTY. He is as polished as a 20 year old has ever been in the NBA, and what’s truly TRULY terrifying is that this season was likely the worst he will ever be. If somehow he never improves, but maintains a long career, his number will surely hang along with the likes of Bill Russell, Larry Legend, John Havlicek, and the rest of those greats.
He WILL, however, continue to grow and mature physically, learn more, be more prepared for certain situations, and the game will move even slower for him. He already makes such great reads, and he’s getting a PH.d. in basketball because of Brad Stevens. If everything shakes out right, he could be the next great Celtic, which is what the NBA has always had at it’s peak: a shining star in Boston. He genuinely looks to me to have the makings of a perennial MVP candidate in a league filled with rising stars. Personally, I've seen the Unseen Hours and know that he actively studies Kobe, and I tell people all the time that his game, especially the footwork, build, and fadeaway remind me of one Kobe Bean Bryant. Be. Careful. Of. This. Kid.

as a Wizards fan, this kid already has footwork and handles i wish Beal had. Beal is quicker and faster, but Tatum's fundamentals open up more weapons for him to be a better scoring option. there's also Brad's nasty tendency to go cold in the clutch.

Because hes has such long arms and great height for the position he creates separation even better than he needs to. Its like taking a wide open shot everytime he makes a move. Never has to rush anything

This was a rookie!!!!!!!! Looking forward to what he does this year. In my mind he looks like he is near ceiling, but he will be awesome to watch because of his approach... I may even root for him since LeBron joined my team (I'm going to try to enjoy the Lakers, but it's going to be hard)

0:44 What nobody ever shows is that Tatum did that move to make up for falling backwards on his ass defending on the perimeter the play just prior to that. He himself said he wanted to make up for falling down and do something to make people forget that. Apparently it worked well.

TimeHawkings facts... Even gordon may score under 20... Kyrie is probably the only one going to be averaging a good 24/25
@renzolising7254
@renzolising7254 6 жыл бұрын
nobody on Boston even averaged more than 30 mins last season, and Tatum was the 4th scoring option back then that's why his stat aren't as high as, say, Mitchell
@ijustdontgetit1438
@ijustdontgetit1438 6 жыл бұрын
TimeHawkings he’s the scoring option off the bench. So I think he still can get in the 20s point wise. 18 around there cause he won’t really have to compete on who to take the shots when he’s on the floor! I think it’s gonna work out good for him being humble an coming off the bench!
@michaeloh6221
@michaeloh6221 6 жыл бұрын
He's not coming off the bench - he's being shifted to the 4. Starting lineup is Kyrie-Brown-Hayward-Tatum-Horford Bench is Rozier-Smart-Morris-Ojeleye-Baynes Reserves are Wanamaker-Williams III My predictions: Kyrie's going to average 24, just like last season Brown's and Tatum's scoring averages will rise, but not by much, to around 15 and 17 ppg, respectively Hayward's going to take a step back and average around 17 ppg Al's going to take a major step back on scoring, but it doesn't matter much because he'll provide in other areas, such as defense, screening and passing. Rozier will average 12-13 off the bench and will compete for 6MOY Smart's scoring averages will surely drop to around 7-8ppg but will still get major minutes at the 1,2 and sometimes the 3. Will provide defense, screening, passing and boxing out on the glass. Morris' scoring averages will also drop to single digits but he'll still be productive on both ends Baynes will likely be a 4th option, even on the reserve unit, but will still likely crash the glass and hit open 3s (he's expanded his range). Scoring average will likely stay around 6ppg. So in total: Kyrie's 24 + Brown's 15 + Hayward's 17 + Tatum's 17 + Horford's 10 + Rozier's 12 + Smart's 7 + Morris' 8 + Baynes' 6 = 116 ppg, assuming everyone plays every game. But these numbers will likely be inflated due to Coach Stevens rotating out his starting lineup in favor of the young guys on his bench. So, the Celtics will likely average around 110ppg, still making them one of the best offenses in the league this coming season. Can't wait.
