With the emergence of the Gupta Dynasty, at the start of the fourth century CE, we see that the region of Magadha again became important in the politics of Ancient India. The rise of the Guptas is well known and what role the Licchavis played in this rise is also well known. But the question of why the matrimonial alliance between the Licchavis and the Gupta took place is not discussed very often. In this video, I try to answer this question.

Thank you very much for your informative videos. I'm from China. Do you have any information about the ancient route link between north east India and southwest China through Assam and northern Burma? I can only found information from Chinese side. The Wudi of Han dynasty (141BC-87 BC) tried to fight a way to India by conquering the tribes in today's Yunnan province but only reached the place roughly equivalent to the modern border of China. In Chinese records there are Indians present in the Yongchang Commandery (in today's Baoshan, Yunnan), they are probably merchants. The information regarding this route is very scarce, seems that Chinese don't know much about the route beyond Chinese border, but this route is the most ancient route between China and the outside world. Do you have any information about how ancient Indians record and percieve this? Or do any Indians visited China through this road?

Finding coins in UP make no sense to determine the Guptas were from there, because the whole North of South Asia was the Gupta empire. I would expect this theory to come from a farmer not from a fellow gentleman that is educated and who would use archaeological techniques from a reputable university.
