This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I’m a mid 50’s white woman, and I would melt if a man said these things to me. It is a gorgeous tribute to his late wife. She was, indeed, a very fortunate and loved woman. We should all be so fortunate. Omg how romantic. Love your channel as it mends the current racial divide that is promoted and perpetrated in this country. Keep up the good work!

Actually, he wrote this for Patti Boyd Harrison. She was George Harrison's wife and left George for Eric shortly before he recorded this song. Eric and Patti got married soon after, but the marriage was troubled from the beginning, even though they did stay together for more than 10 years. Despite it all, George, Eric and Patti all managed to remain friends. George always referred to Eric as his best friend, even jokingly calling him his "husband-in-law". Eric also wrote Layla for Patti several years earlier (he changed the name so it wasn't so obvious), and George wrote Something for her. And she's also still alive. Eric has been married several times and all of his ex-wives are still alive.

I am a Bee Gees fan and we Bee Gees fans owes a lot to Clapton. In the periode from 72-74 the Bee Gees had problems moving on with their music and it was infact him that pushed Bee Gees in a direction that made them maybe the most succesful band in the world in the late seventies. Clapton and Bee Gees were both at RSO and one night the talk was on how The Bee Gees could turn their career around. Clapton then said."Why don't you try Criteria Studio in Miami?". It was here he recorded "461 Ocean Boulevard (The address of the studio)" and it certainly changed it for him. As discussed so they did move to Miami and the rest is history with albums like Main Course, Children of the World, SNF and Spirits Having Flown". Of course their producer Arif Mardin also had something to with it but it was Claptons's suggestion that got them going.
