Dame wasn't the one who convinced Jay to rap, and Rocafella was created because Jay couldn't get signed. Jay wasn't making money on the street with Dame, and Biggs was also rich back then so it's safe to say Jay would have still ended up who he was without Dame, in one way shape or form, because he didn't *need* Dame to start Rocafella. He already had the money to do it, and Dame was one of 3 owners. In fact, Lyor was trying to get Jay to partner up by himself. Jay's the one who made sure they took Rocafella as a whole, and not just him. So it would have been a lot easier for Jay to find another guy to politic the business side of Rap, than it would have been for Dame to find another artist of Jay's caliber who'd carry the Roc brand the way Jay did. By all accounts, Jay (Brooklyn) and Dame (Harlem) were always hustlers, so it's fair to say they both always had the will and drive to be successful regardless. Jay's biggest successes came after the music and Dame's most notable successes came from music so....who really needed who?
