I've been manually overclocking forever. But the auto overclocking on my Maximus VII Formula has completely converted me. I wondered "How good will it even do". So I went into BIOS and commanded max overclock and instantly it adjusted voltage, frequency, etc... so then I thought "Betcha I can do better". Well... I couldn't... No matter what I did, 4.7 GHz at 1.36 volts on my Core i5-4690k on the H100i GTX was the max stable overclock. Bravo ASUS, you guys have earned a new loyalist :)

Hey Jay, JJ, and ASUS. Awesome video about an awesome board. Just wanted to share my two cents about it though. I like pretty much all the tech put into it, but there are some technologies I hate having preinstalled on any motherboard that I think should be recognized by ASUS. I think its safe to say that almost all PC enthusiasts are concerned about security from hackers and even our own nosy governments by now. By including things like Bluetooth and WiFi onto the board makes it a lot more venerable than without them ( not really as much for Bluetooth but it is still a risk). For someone like me who only uses Ethernet and a Xbox 360 controller occasionally (not PS3), I have no use for WIFI or even Bluetooth. After all, it is a desktop mobo and wireless technologies or portability are not a big sellers especially since they are so slow. Personally I might have purchased this board but I cant because I'm a paranoid nerd. I bet there are plenty of other people like me who feel the same. I still love ASUS though and have the sabertooth990FX still. ASUS products are great but I think marketers just love to say things like built in WiFi and Bluetooth. But is this necessary or even appealing to computer enthusiasts? I just want to throw that out there and hopefully some one at ASUS recognizes that. Since I do want all the latest and greatest but with some exceptions and think many others might agree.

That is great! This just made my next system upgrade really easy. Bigger case, three rads, a bunch of ram and 4 monster video cards on a work station board. The three rads will be used as one to cool the cpu and the other two with two video cards on each. I will do a bunch of homework and find out if it is worth cooling the ram or not. This will make a dream workstation that will game like crazy also. Grin.

I'm glad that they are thinning out the lineup and focussing on a select few motherboards. That's what I've been wanting for a while. It helps the end user in every scenario & it just makes sense financially for the company. Diversity can be the biggest hurdle that a company gets themselves into as they grow. (I understand 2400 MHz memory thresholds for Z87/97, but DDR4 2400 isn't a major problem. I'll predict that there will be a ton of negative memory manufacturing and a few Asus targeted comments for the simple fact that they are not manually configuring their system.) Oh... the masses, whatever will we do with you.

I have question about the u.2 connector on the motherboard. Does u.2 can only be connected with u.2 ssd? Can I use u.2 for sata or sas drive with Mini SAS SFF-8643 Host to 4 SATA 7pin. According to wiki, U2, formerly known as SFF-8639, is a computer interface for connecting SSDs to a computer. It uses up to four PCI Express lanes. It is developed for the enterprise market and designed to support new PCI Express drives along with SAS and SATA drives.

Please answer me this because this is the board I am looking into getting. I have looked at reviews on overclocking sites and they rate this board poorly. Is this because it is directed at beginners to be able to overclock to a relatively low, yet stable overclock? Is it just rated bad because experienced overclockers can't do what they want and get it to 7GHz easily? I am new to overclocking and do not want a 12GHz monster, I just want to get to like 4.5GHz easily. Is this the board for me? This board is also relatively cheap compared to other expensive boards ($300 AUD compared to 600) like the rampage V extreme. Is this because the rampage is made for pro overclockers? Thanks.
@adrianwarner86869 жыл бұрын
Hugh Wheaton For a total beginner, the ASUS AI system is ideal. You won't accidentally cook your CPU by overclocking it. As he says it has a pre-built temp limit and will settle at a stable overclock. If you build something with good cooling you can allow it to go higher. People really into overclocking like Jay will be using MSI Afterburner (works on any motherboard, just made by MSI). Now with Afterburner you can manually adjust a hell of a lot, but if you don't know what you're doing you can soon cause yourself issues as there's just so many options. As they mention even if you know what you're doing it can take hours. ASUS make very good quality kit, I've used them for my own and builds for others and never had issues.
@adrianwarner86869 жыл бұрын
Hugh Wheaton Oh and ref: Rampage. Yep that's got all the highest quality components possible plus suitable for overclocking competitions using liquid nitrogen etc. Prob not worth you forking out for just yet :-D Money better spent on a good PSU that will give you power headroom for future expansions i.e multiple GPU's etc. Or put it towards good cooling system etc.
@hughwheaton82019 жыл бұрын
Silver Shaman cheers. As I said earlier, overclocking sites rate this board terribly but that must be because of the 'safety' features Asus have put on this board that would be useful to me.
@adrianwarner86869 жыл бұрын
Hugh Wheaton That may well be the case, serious hardcore overclockers would probably go for the Rampage. But as you can see in the vid even Jay appreciates how much the AI system can do. I just like simple stable systems so I use ASUS. Maybe not the absolute best, but you always know it'll work and you don't need to have 10 years of experience to get results.

Hey guys need your help, I know the start up/early adopter cost is through the roof for x99, but I am quite curious on it. My main workload will be alot of HPC scientific/engineering applications (ansys, cfd, simulation, data mining, etc.) but I am looking at enthusiast grade equipment because I want this to be my home/leisure pc for 3D/Video/Audio rendering (side projects) and gaming. Is it worth investing into the highest tier of the i7 extreme (8 core)? Or should I stick with x79?
@KeyvanKhademRavandi10 жыл бұрын
if you mean by "stick with x79" that you already have it, then yes. if you don't, then well....it depends on the money you're investing & how much you're getting for your money (something a lot of fanboys don't understand). i don't think that x99is worth the upgrade from x79 IMO but hey, maybe applications ARE going to take advantage from the newedst cpu & DRR4 :p
