A couple of videos back, you were wondering what kind of content we want from you...well here you are! This is exactly the kind of stuff I find interesting (not that the rest isn't though). This is so useful and helpful. Thank you! Talking about the "XMP" thing made me think that a video of "Tips & Tricks for noobz" regarding BIOS (or UEFI) setting up and configuration, might be useful too. There are a ton of setting in there that most people don't know about or don't understand. I know that it would be complicated to cover the subject, as there are many brands out there, and each of them does things "their way". But a couple of "most common" examples with things to look after (like the XMP) or things to ignore, might be interesting. Happy Holidays everyone!

While it is great to see and hear Jay explain these different settings in the BIOS/UEFI I would have to say that one of the best things a tech'/computer enthusiast can do is to develop their own skills by using Google to search for answers. Yes, there is a lot of bad/subjective answers, comments, and opinions out there, but then you start finding great forums or resources like Tom's Hardware (just and example). The more information you have the more you can draw upon and filter out the best answer based upon your scenario or requirements.

yeah like if msi's bios lets you set the year past 3000 it corrupts the windows install and can trick you into thinking you computer broke when it's not not sure if other mobo makers have that issue but it's something to always watch out for

My most recent error was a difficult one. After a few minutes/hours of gaming (random), the PC blue screened and rebooted. The error code was pointing to memory, while I was thinking about the GPU being dead. I changed the PSU, I changed the RAM, and still, no improvements so I really was worried about my 3070Ti. After hours of wandering in forums, I noticed some people having trouble with their PCIe 4.0 16 lanes on the same gigabyte Z490 motherboard than me, with the last bios. Changing to 8 lanes solved the problem. TLDR: Diagnose your problems carefully and you will probably save some money

I had the ram issues but they're just a tad different: either it bluescreens under load but the bluescreen doesn't restart the pc automatically = ram is gone If the pc resets (power failure) without bluescreen when idle = ram not stable (or nand is forgetful)

I was having an issue with my 6700xt crashing and switched from a gigabyte b550 motherboard to an Asus and the problem went away… never thought to switch lanes tho 🤔

Your first pc build was successful due to YOU being willing to seeking out information, don't sell yourself short! Are you referring to a NAS (network attached storage)? They are very useful for large storage or if you need to access data from many different devices.

No idea what JayZ talked about before, but the times I did it it was pretty much just for the convenience when formatting again. Keep in mind, this was in the times when SSDs were not common, you'll need to update this a bit ;) Say you built a PC with 2 hard drives. Windows goes on HDD 1. Pretty much all software also went on drive 1, along Windows. Steam goes to drive 2, since you don't want to download your games again after formatting (nowdays, you'd just create a Steam Library there). You'd take care of moving most of your data, because at the time, software clashed with User Profile Redirection. But, even if you didn't do that, there usually was not much to worry, since you could just move all your stuff before formatting to drive 2. Whenever you need to format, you can safely wipe drive 1. It only contains software that doesn't (gracefully) survive a reformat. Reinstall drivers and software you need on drive 1, which you could have downloaded from your previous OS and stored on drive 2, and you're ready to go. All your data is still there, your Steam games are downloaded and (nearly) ready to play. If you have portable apps on drive 2, you can just launch them.

My 1 year old dell laptop was running hot so I took it apart. There was a lot of thermal paste........on the substrate. There was almost none on the silicon. I was a bit surprised at how tiny the silicon is on a Ryzen 4700u, but anyway I re-pasted it and it helped a lot. less fan noise, fan runs less often, overall temps are less (at least based on my hands detecting heat)

Some companies also have motherboard specific software to control the CPU and\or Memory Timings as well. Like ASRock Timing Configurator or EVGA X1 Eleet - but you have to have specific motherboards for those to work.

If you are looking to use Intel XTU, check the processor specs on the download page before you download. This is only for High end processors. The CPU on the bottom of the list is Intel i3-9350KF (Though I wouldn't call any i3 a high end processor). That kind of leaves my poor old i5-4670K processor out of the loop.

I just utilized the Intel XTU, and I must say, I like how they did this a LOT. I like the prettier AMD I saw Jayz use, but the more technical style of Intel's is nice too, and it still PERFECTLY conveys everything with minimal knowledge of how CPUs and computers function (still need to learn a LOT).

Precision overclock was what was making my games crash after about 20 minutes of gameplay. This is due to poor air circulation in my small room, so pair that with the extra heat off precision overclocking and you’ve got yourself a problem. After I ran the exact tests that jay shows us I ended up resorting to Game Mode on Ryzen master and doing the same thing to my graphics card as jay did (same GPU as in vid luckily) since then I’ve had stable temps and stable gameplay. Good timing! I'm recently experiencing random freezes esp. when I'm booting up a game, browsing the web, or just simply letting my pc sit idle. I've currently done all the possible software fix that you could think of, so I'm guessing the issue might be hardware already.

I recently realized my b450 motherboard's auto settings for my xmp profile was not upping the voltage to 1.35v support the higher speeds. That fixed my random hard locks. Also good to check the support page of your motherboard to see what ram speeds it has been validated with. I used hwinfo64 to see all the compatible xmp profiles and timings hidden in my ram.

I've found y-cruncher and OCCT to be the best memory and CPU stability tests. AVX2 / AVX512 instructions will always be the hottest and the memory controller load from y-cruncher will surface any memory issues. OCCT with about 75% of the max threads is useful when undervolting and memory tuning as it will catch weirdness with the windows task scheduler.

Learned alot from this video and it gave me an idea. As far as video ideas go; a video on the importance of keeping up to speed with the general health of your PC. Tempratures, stress testing (when having used the pc as daily driver for months/years) and other tools or useful tips. Both software and hardware (Dust kills pc's). If there is already a video on this, maybe a 2021/22 update? Keeping your PC healthy to extend its life might one of the most important things nowadays. *angrily points at shortages of chips*

Thank you, Jay for doing it with the default programs, at least on AMD side. Would be cool to go more in-depth for what each setting does on the AMD Master/IntelXTU (same for GPU) settings does, but really nice. For AMD GPUs I recommend testing out undervolting. Just go to Performance > Tuning > GPU Tuning > voltage set to manual and drop each by about 5 or so > test > drop > etc. I was able to drop from 1025v to 935v (so far) with max 1206MHz (RX 470 4GB) and still stay stable. Dropped about 10-14C and actually gained about 3FPS in Witcher 3 while testing. Going to see if I can get it at 900v. Only bad side I found on AMD is, if you have more than one monitor the VRAM speed stays on max (1650MHz for me) to "avoid screen tearing" and so the idle temps stays kinda high. Would love it if they could fix that somehow, or if there is a fix for it.

I can't remember the last time I had stability issues... It's been literal years since I saw a BSOD... Then again, I stopped overclocking like 15 years ago, because going to the trouble and effort, to get my game frame rates to go from 104fps to 106fps... just wasn't worth it. The gains are so irrelevant and small in the real world... That said, you make good points about using it as a troubleshooting tool on a stock machine...

Memtest is one of the most underused tools I find... I can't tell you how many times in the last 15 years working on customer PCs that "act weird" an overnight run of memtest showed "bad memory" (or defective memory sockets)

This is awesome! I have been having some issues with crashing or freezing on some games and I couldnt figure out why since I ran a bunch of benchmarks ie 3Dmark and everything was running just fine. Until I looked at my CPU temps and realized that it was reaching pretty close to 95C fairly frequently while running cinebench. I looked up the games and it turns out that they were fairly CPU intensive which would explain the freezing. I swapped out my AIO for my stock cooler and everything is looking great again. This was my first build and everything was just fine for about a year of gaming so I thought everything was fine. I am still learning so much more. Thank you so much Jay, you're amazing!

I built a new PC about a year ago, and I was going through the testing phase. All of the tests were fine, and short tests of the GPU worked as well. Longer tests kept failing at random times though and I'd get Blue Screens constantly. It took a while to diagnose the issue, but finally, it came down to an issue with the PCIe riser cable that came with my case. Turns out it was a PCIe Gen3 riser, and my mobo and GPU were both Gen4. I changed the PCIe mode on my mobo to PCIe Gen3 mode and have not run into any issues since. Obviously Gen3 is plenty capable of handling a 3070, so I'm happy with the resolution.

that is due too the manufacturers Bios alterations allowing more power and less offset then recomended bye intel !!!! it was fixed shortly after release with a bios update .. these reviewers had the motherboards and cpu,s prior then their release dates . currently intel 11th and 12th gen cpus are far superior then what Ryzen or AMD has too date . the Ryzen 9 5950X was blown out of the water bye intels i9 12900k which is cheaper in price and has less cores !!!!

I had a really weird problem recently and wondering if Jay would've been able to figure this one out, lol. I bought a used Gigabyte GTX 1080 Aorus for an upcoming all Aorus build I'm putting together. Since I don't have all the parts for this build yet, I decided to at least test the card in an old AMD Phenom II rig that I've been using as a spare computer and now test machine. When I first started it up with the GTX 1080, the motherboard said it couldn't detect my SATA Crucial MX 100 256GB C drive. Never had this problem before. So I swapped it with another SSD and it was fine. So I tested the supposed bad SSD in my main daily driver computer using a USB adapter and the drive read fine. So I put the Crucial drive back in my test computer and was getting more or less the same problems with the addition of random crashes. Then after a few more failed boots it finally ran fine and was able to test the 1080 in at least one game. Now comes the really weird part. When I went to reposition the computer a little bit back further into the shelf I have for it, my screen went black and all my fans shot to full speed and the computer was not able to post after that point along with no beep codes either. So I was originally thinking that it must've been the GPU that was causing this problem ever since I installed it in the first place. So I tried another spare GPU and still the same thing. I tried that other SSD again, still no post. I even removed one RAM stick at a time till I completely removed all of them and again no post or beep codes. Cleared the CMOS, same thing of course. Last thing I checked was my power supply using a DVOM and backed probed all the connectors and verified all of the voltages, grounds and every possible connection was good. So now at this point I'm thinking it's gotta be the motherboard or CPU that's bad. Luckily I still had another old Phenom II motherboard and swapped it with still the same damn problem! Then I took a chance and ordered another used CPU with yet again still the freaking same result! Omg, I was almost pulling my hair out! Then it dawned on me, I finally remembered that I still have some old spare DDR3 2X4GB sticks of memory and swapped the sticks out then FINALLY the motherboard actually gave me some beep codes, whoo hoo! So to verify once more I put back all 4 of the old RAM sticks individually into each slot and got the no response issue as expected. So my final conclusion was that the original problem was coincidentally the Crucial SSD decided to die at that very moment I started the computer with the GTX 1080 (which was not at fault) and it actually caused all 4 sticks of my RAM to go bad! Sounds crazy right? But ever since I left the 2 replacement sticks of RAM and the other replacement SSD in it's been running fine ever since. This problem had me going nuts for almost 2 weeks! Lesson learned for me is to always back up your data and once there is a slightest clue of a failing drive, shut the computer down and immediately replace the suspecting bad drive ASAP! Well at least for an old Phenom II and SATA SSD setup. Till this day, I'm still trying to figure out how a bad SATA SSD drive can cause all memory sticks to fail. 🤔

Hey Jay, I think it's worth mentioning that the ability to loop the Uniengine Heaven benchmark is only available if you at least use the advanced version which costs money. I went into that under the assumption that the feature is included in the free version.

Videos on maintenance, easy over clocking, how to get a little extra performance, testing our rigs to see if we have issues (like this video). If we can’t build something new, we need to spend time cleaning, tweaking, repasting, etc.

Loved when they added XMP to Memory.,.. no longer had to manually configure all the settings in bios and pray that it worked... Now a couple of clicks and your there... Sad that many still do not know about this (including system builders who don't have it properly configured when the ship a system.)

Sonofa-! where was this five days ago when I needed it! I was having blue screens and crashes every 5-10 minutes into any 3D game I played. Did a GPU stress test with Heaven, did a CPU stress test with Cinebench, and then did a RAM test with Memtest86. Finally figured out my RAM didn't like being in XMP mode. Dropped the voltage and clock speed just a little and now everything works perfectly fine.

I've been building and using PCs for over 10 years now and these small "tutorial" videos are still helpful. Having "What to do after you build your PC" or whatever the proper title of it is hold my hand while i navigated things like BIOS updates and AMD's Ryzen weirdness literally kept me from having multiple panic attacks because if i ever got worried, i could just keep rewatching the video and be confident i did every up to that point right. Hell, this was helpful already. Apparently the BIOS update i needed to do for Windows 11 reset my RAM speeds and i needed to go in and re-enable XMP

I’ve had my pc for a year now and never stress tested it, however I use to be an editor so it’s a relief to know that I’ve technically tested the cpu. I use to think there was something wrong with it because I dealt with a lot of issues but it turned out to be the version of premier pro I was using because when I reverted I never saw any issues again.

About 3.5 yrs ago my power supply blew up in my case. Ever since, my mobo sometimes won't POST. For the most part it runs stable, but on things like updates (Windows 10 updates or driver updates) when restarting takes ages to actually POST, and if you shut it down and restart it after about 10 mins or so, it'll boot properly with the new version of software or driver. I'm thinking it's something with my mobo because I've replaced the PSU (After the old one blew), GPU, and storage but maybe it could be something with my RAM! Either way it's good to have this software in my toolbox and I'll be checking out the RAM tester. Thanks for the video Jay!

i just built my first PC (5700x + 3070 + 32GB DDR4 @3200 + 750W corsair psu + 2TB SN850X + Thermalright Phantom Spirit + be quiet Light Wings fans) and i was terrified to press the start button but to my surprise everything is working perfectly so far! i still need to stress test it all, but i was really most worried about my GPU since it was a Used 3070 from ebay from some company called wozno, but it is in basically brand new condition so i'm super happy i decided to go used. gonna go spin up cinebench now! thanks for the great vids brotherman!

Thanks for the info Jay! Just built a PC for a friend for light gaming and music production. He had a budget so I had to sacrifice a few things. Ryzen 5 4500, gigabyte b450, 32 gb ddr4 3200. 8x4. Rtx 2080 ti. 800 watt gold ps. Upgraded cooler to aio because the wraith just couldn't handle the auto oc on ryzen master.
