I like the idea of an AIO cooled GPU, especially if there is a decent increase in performance and temps. I don't know if I'd be keen to spend the extra £200+ on it though, AIOs have a higher failure rate than air coolers, It's okay when it's a separate cooler for the CPU but when it's attached to the GPU you'd have to imagine it'd negatively impact resale value and the lifespan of the card

@Silentjackll
@Silentjackll 2 жыл бұрын
AIOs with the proper setup (back plate, vrm heatsinks, ect..) are, in a lot of cases, better simply because of the price differences. In almost all situations, an AIO will cost you less then 1/4th the cost of a normal DIY loop setup. Just make sure you are using the proper rad for the video card you are trying to cool.

I've been doing AIO GPU's for the last few generations and love them. Did the 1080ti, 2080ti, and now a 6800XT. The thing is that I have a 280mm AIO for my CPU on the front of the case and then have the 280mm AIO for the GPU on the top of the case. This layout has worked fantastic for 3 revisions. I had an air cooled 6800XT and it had 3 fans....it ran a bit hotter than I am used to (Gaming X Trio) but it was a fast card (a bit noisier than I'm used to). The problem is that I didn't have enough exhaust so I moved the CPU AIO to the top....where it didn't want to fit very well...so my option was really to add more case fans which would make the whole system even noisier. The reality is that I wanted to go with an AIO from the beginning, got lucky and found "any" 6800XT (even if it was air-cooled) and got even luckier that I found a water cooled one and was able to sell the first card locally for what I paid for it (it was only 3 days old)....because I'm not a dirty scalper.

TL DR : AIO on GPUs totally worth it ! I had the exact same concern as Jay had XD From my personnal experience, an AIO cooler could gives about 30C+ in temperature reduction when the GPU is at full load which is massive. With this efficiency to cool your GPU, you can either decrease your fans speed for a more silent system or overclock your GPU even more or a mix of both. I'm huge fan of EVGA air cooled and AIO cards.

@mikfhan
@mikfhan 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely can benefit small form factor cases, less heat buildup for the CPU so it can remain on air cooling. Usually the CPU will outlast 2-3 GPU generations so ease of maintenance is nice, then you just buy a new GPU when the AIO starts building up gunk and other problems - if it can last 3 years without issues of course - resale value is limited though. I'm still an air cooler at heart, but the AIO option for GPU lazyboys with enough money has some merit - but in this PC market, heck no.

I've heard of several AIO pumps failing so it's reasonable to wait for long term test results before jumping on board and trying to find one. I've had a 1080TI Gigabyte Aorus AIO for like 3 years now. It's been super solid. I removed the hard drive cage and placed the AIO rad right up against the front case fans so the exhaust literally just exits the case immediately. HOWEVER, I mistakenly thought at the time of buying that it would be quieter than any air cooled card, and although it is very quiet, it's still the loudest thing in my case (BeQuiet case & PS with Noctua CPU cooler). What I hear are these high-pitched clicky-swuishy sounds , when you put your ear up close sounds like liquid moving. So, my next upgrade will probably be all air cooled so I can take advantage of silent modes for audio recording.

One thing that's important to note is how loud the pump is and whether or not the pump speed can be controlled. I had an EVGA 2080ti hybrid that was terribly loud and a DC pump. Though the performance was good, I would have elected for an air cooled card if I knew the hybrid sounded like a crappy fridge.
