IKEA makes quality furniture with really crap materials. In their home region of Northern Europe there are a couple of knock off stores like Jysk that tries to replicate IKEA but they really skimp on a lot, so where Ikea would make an inch thick sturdy cardboard plate Jysk makes the same plate only half an inch thick. Not ideal.

So happy the improvements are under way! I moved three years ago and let me tell you, you have no clue how much stuff you actually have until it comes time to pack things up. I have trouble throwing things away, and sure enough three years later I still have a few things in boxes stuffed away in the attic. I know I should just toss them but I can't.

My wife and I went through the same thing a few years ago when we had to sell the house her Mom and Dad lived in for over 20 yrs after her Dad died. They were both Depression era kids so they tended to hold on to things in case they might need it again someday, even if it was broken or outdated. It took us 2 weeks and 8 industrial bins to clear out all the broken and old crap they hadn't touched in years or even the past four decades. We live with her 92 yrs old Mom now as full time caretakers and she still wants to hold on to things she doesn't really need.

Great, I am about to move in a couple of months and am in the same rearrangement process, as I'm designing and shrinking down my business to be more compact and modular, it feels so great to take every half done project, or box of parts for a particular category, and breeze through either removing or finishing to sell, as anything that's been sitting in a box for more than a year really is not necessary. The whole process takes away any stress I have, because I'll be able to fit everything into something as small as a cargo trailer or storage unit which gives me a lot of options in the future.

Jay, you have a nice big back door. You can get a trailer and build a set in it to leverage your floor space. You can use the trailer to film some videos and then back it into the parking lot and have your whole floor to do other things with. Very flexible use of space.

jeeze, so sad i´m half the world far away from you....i love projects like these. Also ikea is the reason i got myself to woodworking, when i realized that for same price of a Ish table made from cardboard i can get hardoak to build it myself, I just do everything for myself ever since - today i just preped budget for outside roofing for my parking (36m2) and all the mats neccesery for it gonna be under 1.500 USD (concrete filling for the bases, all the wood, roof cover and other stuff). In last few years, its insane how prices went up (not that much for mats, but for the final product) - 2 weeks ago i did the "growing" chair for my little boy, which is roughly 150 USD retail in my country - mats cost me like 10 bucks and 1-2 hours of work (with drawing the thing etc.), but ppl are oblivious to the costs of things so these ridiculous prices just flies, cause almost noone has a clue and most of all, noone wants to do the manual work.

They don't call that stuff fallaparticleboard for nothing. The old mill building where my brother had his silk-screening business also rented out some of the space to some rock bands to use as practice rooms after hours. I can understand why because I brought my Italian virginal harpsichord down there for practicing once or twice and used to keep my old digital piano down there as well. The reverb was totally amazing.
