And just keep the integrated AIO pump/block pushing into the original rad and then pulling out of the additional one. Fuel injection screw clamps (not the spring style) make for a pretty reliable connection too for fiddling with AIOs that have been opened up lol
@TigonIII8 ай бұрын
I also suggested this in the first video, but here I noticed that the second rad might not fit because of the GPU power cable, because if you look closely, it seems to come up under the second fan and I don't think there's room if a second rad is installed, so unless he can route the cables in another way, then it seems impossible.
@bradgaunt39238 ай бұрын
Hmm, could you fit a second 120mm rad beside the first one? The hinge might not let it swing but you might be able to screw it down in place. You could then have to mod the AIO to loop through 2 rads. Or just go with 2 copper 120's and use the AIO pump and block, no mixed metals, easier to refill. Did something similar years ago and just put a T in for filling and a very small reserve of water.

It's always better to use liquid temp for fan profiles, the fans aren't cooling the components the water is, and if the water is staying the same temp it is cooling the components the same regardless of load. If you want the fans to respond faster to liquid temp changes you just make it have a more aggressive profile.
@Jayztwocents8 ай бұрын
Disagree
@Syphirioth8 ай бұрын
But it's not as instant as air cooling response. Becaus the water need flow to. It is quick but still need to flow. Also heat dissipates into water. Even when there is a hotspot. So it is more safe to use actually cpu temp. Cause that is what needs be cooled. And not the water. The pro of water is that it is more steady in cooling. So increase water flow and fan speed and water is better at take heat from the hotspot. And then water need give off heat to air trough radiator. This is the downside of water cooling vs air cooling to. Ofcourse it relative to devices and coolers etc etc etc. There many factors. I actually watched both liquid temp and cpu temp and see how it related to eachother. And it is realy hard to find the spikes of cpu heat in liquid temp. cause the increase in liquid temp is alot smaller then the increase in cpu temp. I also did do this cause I have corsair fans with temp meters in there. So I have put my aoi on CPU temp. used liquid temp and input and output temps on fans to tune the case temperature and liquid temp. If the system cannot put the hot air out correctly its bad. Even with a great aio. Even with a liquid temp not being super high. A few degrees increase on liquid temp is alot less heat transfer. I realy notice it when my pc getting dusty obstructing airflow trough radiator. leaving the water returning to the cpu more hot.

Some excellent replacement fans for this case would be some *_Sythe Kaze Flex II 120 Slim._* They revised the previous Flex model at the end of last year, and upped the speed to 1800rpm - which is extremely fast for a slim fan. Its currently one of the best 15mm fans that money can buy, and there is a *HIGH speed* model. They are fairly quiet, but unlike the competing Noctuas they are tuned more for air flow that silence. I have a bunch of them for different ITX builds, and swear by them - the price isn't that bad either. I personally wouldn't pair anything less a 360mm AiO with a 14900K or any other flagship chip from any generation since Skylake. Water cooling for me is about building a quieter system, not a system where fans run at 100% just to thread the needle at thermal throttling. Thanks for doing these vid Jay!

Jay, I wanted to add to your discussion on AVX and CPU usage spikes. While Cinebench might not reflect typical use, modern games like Call of Duty use AVX instructions for tasks like shader compilation, leading to high CPU usage spikes. Regular users can experience thermal throttling and performance issues in these scenarios, especially with setups like a 14900K paired with a single 120mm AIO cooler. The problem is worsened by motherboard manufacturers needing better solutions to manage voltage and frequency curves for optimal performance and stability, as many BIOS auto settings are overkill and contribute to these issues. Cheers!

To fix this pc in my opinion, take out the aio 4090 put in a founders 4090 (if it would fit), take out the 120 cpu aio for a 240 aio and then use the corsair icue link fans all around and set up the side fans as top left (intake), top right (exhaust), bottom right (intake), and the top 2 fans exhausting. I think that would see better temps than what this set up is.

10:32 I was having the same problem with my NZXT Kraken 280 AIO. NZXT's CAM software was going by the AIO liquid temp instead of the CPU temp and my CPU was getting pretty toasty. I finally realized I could change that, and did. The only slight problem now is that my AIO fans are constantly ramping up and ramping down, but I'd rather have it be a little bit loud then have my CPU frying.
@Syphirioth8 ай бұрын
Why not reduce the liquid temp in relation to fan speed? I think you can also do that. And/or make the aio and fans idle a bit faster so it gets overall better cooling before it need ramp up.

There’s a case to be made for bigger cases :). My similar setup never goes above 60C on an AIO CPU and GPU stays cool too. I really think it’s due to the components being in a large case.

Could 3dmark, test to see if there is adequate cooling before starting the tests? Try a dummy computer with a cpu fan unplugged, and motherboard set to ignore for that header, or another situation where cooling is diminished, and start that test again, to see what 3dmark would do during start up.

Who designed that, saw that a few mm on the fan/radiator mount could accommodate a 240 rad but decided "lol nah, we don't need it" Surely they know what components and heat they'll be dealing with.
@HappyBeezerStudios8 ай бұрын
And look at the massive front panel that does nothing at all. They could've made the case a bit deeper and mound a huge radiator there.

Jay, This video touches on fan speeds and sensors and it got me thinking about what I did for my custom loop. I currently have GPU temp as a trigger for my pump speed, not fan speed. My thought is that it will push cool water over the cold plate and cool it faster. Radiator fans react to coolant temp so fans ramp up and down in a more controlled / less noticeable way. Does this make sense? Any reason to NOT do it this way? Could be a fun video idea, IDK .. I'd be curious to know what other people do as there seems to be many schools of thought but I just figured this made the most sense.

Maybe use a BCF bracket on the CPU, lift the top with spacers to fit thicker fans should be running a decend amount cooler

I wanna see options for air coolers and see if 2 custom 120 rads can fit in there. I'm still interested in the case itself.

Had exactly this problem on my a200 when I first rec'd it. The CPU would throttle long before the fans would start to ramp up. Can't look at the curve because iCue won't let you see it, and the BIOS curves don't control the fans (as shipped) because the system fan isn't connect to the mobo anywhere. I ultimately had to disconnect the system fan (the big 140mm on top) and move it to CPU_FAN2 in order to run FanControl and actually apply a rational curve. This was also a requirement to run Linux (using CoolerControl), as Corsair won't support that OS re: cooling.

3d print an extension for the top hat and put bigger fans underneath
@shaneandera14098 ай бұрын
It almost sounds like the aio pump connection is loose, since the corsair software does not detect it. Also, for S&G's, could corsair have left the plastic on the cooling plate? At this point, I would tear down the system completely and verify that all connections are good before doing a redesign of the system.

I think, if you want, try to switch to the equivalent on AMD Ryzen CPU for an change. Though Intel is getting good again, the temperatures aren't helping for having an low profile computer that is should not be as hot as the sun, literally.
@krisc16848 ай бұрын
I mean Intel was on point with 12th and 13th gen. Great value at different price points. 14th Gen is pathetic. So I'd say they're getting worse rather than getting good again.

Pretty sure that pump is failing! 100% agree that the 120 aio won't cut it. But that's underperforming for what it is. When you were in the Corsair one software one of the fans was at 6xx something. I bet that was the pump and they were on the wrong header.
@ahnilatedahnilated77038 ай бұрын
Take those stupid side screens off that are smothering the case. It will help the cooling dramatically. So what if you have to clean the system a bit more, get an air compressor or vacuum that will deal with the dust once every 6 months.

corsair should sell this as a "case only" and recommend for only CPU's that do not run hot which is great for the casual gamer/web surfer and those that want a good aesthetic with a budget CPU
@jarnom858 ай бұрын
There is solution to the top fan situation. Just print top extension bracket's for the screw spots, will fit 25mm fans perfectly and it wouldnt sacrifice looks that much at all, front and rear of the case has 10mm room untill the cap would come visible and sides are even higher. Amazes me when Corsair cannot code FAN control to their software, like they forgot how to do it, it's one of the most important features on the PC.

I have a pc fron NZXT BLD. DO NOT RECOMMEND! They sent me 4 DOA pc’s and removed all my custom parts (trying to find the issue) which was clearly the power supply. And the 5th pc they sent me had none of the parts or manufacturers that i chose when i ordered the pc. Ultimately making it a waste of time and money. (Pc was bought during the 3000 series gpu heist)

I wonder if attaching some suitable size heatsinks to the GPU AIO copper plate would help with the VRAM? Should add some passive cooling given the extra airflow from the bigger fans.

trying to find fans that prioritize CFM instead of noise is a hard task... heck trying to find them in 80mm OG size recently was one heck of a task and i think i failed, basically replaced all the fans with less good ones! (i don't care if it sounds and hover like a hovercraft, internal temp should not be 45 C with 5 fans set at 100% and barely audible!)
@simmeroon31898 ай бұрын
Hey Jay, I know this is irrelevant to the video, but could you possibly do a video on quiet fans for builds. As someone like myself can't decide for my new sleeper build to use bequiet or noctua so it would really help to hear a non biased pov on performance, volume of noise and overall airflow (considering prices are insane for quiet fans and for the price i want them to be inaudible), and I noticed you use bequiet for your builds and not noctua; so i was hoping for suggestions. anything would be great, thanks :)

regarding the fans at the top, could you not 3d print some that would allow you to raise the top of the case a CM. something like a small block with a couple screw holes that you could insert where the roof tabs would go, then the roof tabs insert into the block?
