D7 to Ebdim7. is the same as D7 to D7b9.. This is very common in jazz. On Guitar it is extremely easy. Say we are making a D7 at 3rd fret..D7 usually goes to a G of some sort. Something cool happens when we change this a diminished chord. D7 is just notes D F# A C..1 3 5 b7.. But change that D to ((D# or Eb).. Majic happens.. It's hard to see this as a b9 chord. Any time you sharp the octave or root of domiinant 7 you're making a b9.. Wiki. Will probably discuss this.
