@@garrettmillerdrums everyone's gotta take care of each other :) mental health is part of health! The amount of freelance work I do has really declined, and that's just life right now. Things will get better, but we have to take care of ourselves to be able to see that through. If taking care of yourself means not putting out content, that's okay! Our capitalist/consumerist society tells us that we are only as valuable as the stuff we produce, and that's not true. It's okay to take as much time off as you need before you get back to doing the things that add value to your life, whatever they may be. :)

Hang in there, we're here cause we think you're a good dude. Don't feel pressure, you just do the best you can and know that's all you can do. You pronounced Navene's name right instantly. He wrote this song just for Meinl, all instruments are done by him too. You should check out his band Entheos in which he records all instruments as well, but his wife does vocals. His old band Animosity is fantastic as well. They were leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else, playing deathcore before that term was ever invented and broke up before that, too.

Navene used to be the drummer for Animals As Leaders (so that says something in itself, I think..), he's played with Animosity, The Faceless, Fleshwrought (in which he plays all the instruments... and Jonny Davy from Job For A Cowboy is the vocalist, so it's not QUITE a "solo" project lol), and who knows how many others... and the song is from his band Entheos, which is him, Chaney Crabb (his wife, a fantastic vocalist), and well, it used to be a supergroup of mainly ex-Animosity members after that band split, so it had Frank Costa on guitar and Evan Brewer (who used to also play with The Faceless and was on their album Autotheism, as well as bands like Reflux which had Tosin Abasi and Ash Avildsen, the CEO of Sumerian Records, and now he's in Look What I Did) on bass, too, and at one point had Travis LeVrier (ex-Scale the Summit) on guitars, as well. But all of those other (notably seasoned, extremely talented) musicians have left Entheos now for one reason or another (I really wish Evan Brewer stayed... he's one of my favorite bassists), so now it's just Navene and Chaney - and Navene, being the multi-instrumentalist he is (he IS Fleshwrought, except the vocals lol), is currently their guitarist and bassist as well. They put out a new single last year, announcing that going forward Navene would be writing and recording all drums, guitars, and bass in the studio. Navene is a talented mu'fugga. I've loved your reactions since day one, Garrett. Like others have said, if you don't feel up to making a video, feeling down for whatever reason, don't feel that you need to make one. We're here for your reactions, for *you* - but that doesn't mean we can't go without you for a couple days. Make videos when you're feeling it, not when you feel you have to. Love you, brother. Keep up the great content.

Man. Navene was the original live drummer for animals as leaders. But I first heard him from being the drummer of one of the most innovative and ahead of their time deathcore band (like deathcore wasn’t a word yet) his band Animosity. Him and his friends were like 16-18 on the first album. And their third album they were a few years older and it was one of the best heaviest deathcore albums ever called Animal (had the sickest band shirts too) but yeah. This guys been killing it for like 20 years now. I’ve always kinda liked the fact that he plays so hard and isn’t so relaxed. Even to this day. You can tell that he grew up blasting. And then starting learning other techniques later.

After meshuggah all djent is downhill. It ends in a purgatory of overly expensive gear and training for nothing. Spreadhseets are efficient but time methinks for some fresh vibrations from off the grid. The crowd wanna blast? Brian Chippendale in black pus or lightning bolt. Something to behold! Feelin Mr Miller and wanna be awash with dynamic range? Gavin Wallace-Ailsworth of Bent Knee. If we're keen for some oft-overlooked yet iconic cult stylings? Chris Hakius of Om/Sleep, Mark Greening of Electric Wizard, and Travis Owen from Weedeater (check the stick tricks vid haha). Or maybe....we're intrigued at the prospect of what meshuggah sounds like crossed with... pink floyd?! Treat yourself to Jarkko "Korjak" Salo of Oranssi Pazuzu. Sorry I realise the patreon is the place for this stuff, I'll jump on there when I'm better positioned to patronise, promise! At least it still satiates the algorithm. P.S. You should hit someone up for a GMD graphic, just like a quick cut with your font/logo design. You could use that as an outro cut (as your intros are part of the charm). Some channels like to roll credits of their patreon supporters over a related image/logo as their outro. It rolls pretty well off a 'thanks, subscribe, merch, goodbye' wrap up. Anyway peace & love man, keep it up, together we'll find 1.
@jen.g.3 жыл бұрын
Meshuggah is not the be all and end all. They paved the way for sure, but there are certainly great “djent” bands that have been innovative.
@ripvanwando3 жыл бұрын
@@jen.g. You're right that one Karnivool album, Themata, was phenomenal. And I suppose tesseract have one good song i can't remember the name of ;p. For e.g. I don't count gojira or syl/dtp as djent, which leaves me feeling that on the contrary, meshuggah embodied the emergence and the totality of whatever that genre is. There's aesthetic layers of angelic vocals like those i mentioned, the stylistic divergences of hybrid picking in aol and the cybernetic chaos of sporadic fx walls in car bomb (which seems to have merged the mathcore of dillinger). My personal favourite to emerge would probably be combat astronomy, the trancey sampling and experimental melodic leads push it into psychedelic territory Meshuggah would often allude to or give respite with ...before soon snatching away. Its creative and i love it. So not to deny such bands don't exist and have their place for us all, I was clearly taking some artistic licence with my metaphor. Yet... I just can't fathom any such band actually being held up to meshuggah in terms of 'djent' or in the scope of critiquing rhythm sections. That's different to say the three stoner/doom bands i listed together, who are generally held in the same regard post sabbath. Most genres have a handful of bands that its hard to deny are all positioned at the zenith of the sound. Thrash probably being the most notable for that in metal. I feel that Meshuggah is more like sabbath in their foundational significance and genre hegemony. Continuing my metaphor would make DTP and Gojira like led zeppelin and deep purple. Massive and awesome bands, with massive crossover influence, but not the ones attributed the metal ancestry like sabbath. I've seen the those three play together or with openers and they're all very different beasts. Karnivool opening for meshuggah held their 'djent' ground, but they never followed through really after that themata (imo). By all means chuck me some names, I'm all about more music!
@jamisonandrewmanhorvaththe11243 жыл бұрын
@@ripvanwando checkout Car Bomb if you do not know them. They are not djent, and if someone calls them djent then they’re most likely unfamiliar with mathcore, but Car Bomb is like a some how more technical, more music/rhythmic theory in their playing. Their songs are just disgusting. Consistent stank face. Frontierer is also a great mathcore band. Sorry, I know you’re really talking about djent, but, yk, progressive metal, djent, mathcore, pretty close.
@drumkidstu3 жыл бұрын
@@ripvanwando I second the car bomb thing. Car bomb is the direct descendant of meshuggah. Car bomb adds metric modulation and some odd meter to the meshuggah formula. Specifically their records w^w^^w^w, meta and mordial. Their first record is okay, but when they became less sporadic, their writing got really good. Frontierer is cool too. Both bands are probably the best groups post meshuggah.
