Thanks Andrew! Was worth the wait! haha. No worries! Yes, he does use that set up live, there's a full set on Audio Tree Live that really shows how good this band is. I was hoping to get to see them live last year but Covid had other plans. He does switch up his set up around a lot too - from the "Orbinated"/no toms up top setup here, to one or two rack toms and single or double floors, there's a lot of differnt configurations in various videos. He also did a one man band project after Animals as Leaders that is really wild (electronica djent?) where he has a bunch of loops running, playing guitar and drums. The singer of Entheos is his wife and they do a really cool podcast mostly about music/band life and have a lot of cool guests - Alex Rudinger was on recently, and talked about some different topics that don't get discussed often. Sick player, crazy good band and all around cool people - glad you enjoyed it!

The circle of amazing drummers that he’s a part of is insanely awesome. He’s the studio drummer for White Chapel’s last album, and then they just pick up his buddy Alex Rudinger to be their touring and ultimately permanent drummer. Seen Navene play live a few times. All of those performances were on smaller kits. As a fan boy, I gotta say that the barrier between band and audience was diminished and the raw prowess of his style is showcased on stage. It's much more personal. I'm sure that the drum tech is to thank for such beautiful representation of Navene's playing (it's probably him) with the band. Entheos rules.

Yeah he uses that setup live, it's a bit different now as this video is from a bit ago. In a live metal setting the drums are always mic'd up, so the acoustics don't matter at all. The volume of the guitars live will completely overpower acoustic drums. So you can get away with playing whatever unique sounding kit you like live as it will just be pushed through the whole mix mic'd up. Some larger bands will even have a dedicated sound guy on tour to recreate the album mix as best as possible. Which when done well makes for a cool listening experience, because it feels like you're truly hearing the recorded album but performed live.

If you wanna know, it’s mostly all in 4, with some displaced 7/8 at the end. Entheos, Navene in general, does some odd phrasing, so the songs sound kinda wack sometimes. Navene also does this thing a lot in Entheos’ songs where he’s blasting, then he does a little double bass fill, and stops the blasting, which could be interpreted as a measure of 5, an example would be at 4:10.
@marcagins34923 жыл бұрын
There is no doubt this guy has some serious chops, but I am growing tired of drumming as a sport. Where is the musicality? The groove? The dynamics? Does everything need to happen at 200+ BPM? Do your cymbals really need to be cranked down so tight that all you hear is the attack and zero sustain? Call me old, but this shit is getting old
