Yooo currently on china high speed train to Beijing. This trip was amazing and life affirming. Quick question has anyone seen these freaks live and do they pull it off as well as they do in this video?? Also what are your favourite life metal and death metal acts? I’m thinking I might make it to a couple of concerts next year and I wanna make sure I see the right stuff. 💪💪🤘🤘

It's probably going to be a while until they're back in Toronto; they were just here a few weeks ago. I can't call myself a fan of Lorna, but I certainly appreciate their music, what they do for the scene and respect the growth they've had, especially in the last handful of years. I've just never been much of a fan of deathcore in general, but Lorna's been at it for quite some time and their success is well deserved; they're talented musicians and they are more than willing to mess around with the deathcore formula rather than be stuck making the same music for decades. Their new vocalist, Will, is also quite good in terms of his technical execution of extreme vocals, but really, the entire band is quite talented. In other news, Spencer Prewett, drummer of Archspire and their founding member, left the band a week or so ago after being in the band for about fifteen years. Apparently he wants to focus on his family as he just had a kid. They've been taking auditions online, and some of the auditions are really great! I'm not sure if the band will sound the same after losing Spencer; he was a founding member and Archspire is definitely a product of his initial vision, so not having his aesthetic input is sure to change things in their future, but when it comes to finding the handful of drummers who could actually meet his skill on a technical level, it seems like there's a few in the running already that have the chops, the time to tour and the desire for the position behind the kit. Have a great time in China! Congratulations again to you and your newlywed wife! For a fun video you should check out young (I think he's only 13 now!) drummer Momo De Monster on KZbin! The kid is a real beast and will likely become one of the world's best drummers as he matures. He already has videos of him covering Meshuggah's Bleed when he was only 8 years old, several songs Archspire when he was 12, Infant Annihilator also when he was 12, Tool when he was 10... etc... The kid is a true drumming prodigy and he keeps getting better as he gets older. I stumbled across his KZbin page a few years ago and every time I see him upload something, I'm still beyond impressed.

@@yarpyarp85 Yeah, I'm not so sure about that guy's audition. He's clearly a talented drummer, but there were parts where it was clear he'd added audio of hits in that weren't taking place being the biggest reason I doubt he'll get the job. It's a big controversy with him and some other drummers that have done that for the audition... And, kinda like lying on your CV, it's not a good practice. The two that are my favorite auditions are Kevin Paradis and Greg A Smith. Kevin is already in Benighted, but he also backed up for Archspire on one of their recent European tours, so he already has a rapport with the band and his drumming is absolutely phenomenal. However, he is from France, which makes a bit of a logistical problem for the writing, recording and touring processes. Greg isn't in any major touring bands, but his auditions span covers he's been doing for over half a decade, so he's clearly a fan of their music. He also has covered the most songs, dropping a few new covers in the past week with incredible precision and the same intensity that Spencer brings to the kit. He's also from Alberta, so within driving distance of the rest of the Archspire guys, so that's a plus in his favor. Momo did add the #archspireaudition hashtag to his playthroughs of their songs, but being so young it's pretty much guaranteed they won't pick him; touring with a preteen is probably a terrible idea, if even legal. It reminds me of the story of how Jeff Loomis tried out for Megadeth when they were looking for a new lead guitarist when he was around 15... Dave told Jeff that he was an amazing guitarist, but he was too young to tour with them. Given their penchant for hard drugs and alcohol in that era, that is probably the understatement of the century, but Jeff is now one of the most respected guitarists in the metal scene. I have a feeling it's a similar sort of situation brewing for Momo.

@@yarpyarp85deathcore, in death metal you don't have breakdowns but mosh parts instead. Deathcore is a mix between death metal and hardcore punk. For Lorna Shore it's even symphonic deathcore as you have symphonic elements on top of it. Cheers

I think the the biggest misconception about metal drummers is that they're all heavy hitting barbarians on the kit. Playing extreme genres like these, if you hit hard all the time, or with bad technique, you just cant play the material. I always say, to play music like this you kind of have to be a nerd about your instrument. Perfecting techniques, spending hours on practice pads. Its dedication to the craft.
@yarpyarp858 күн бұрын
Hell ya dude this is so true. The best drummers and musicians for that matter are so nerdy about their craft. The heads, the triggers, the sticks, the patterns, the techniques etc. great point!
