Bleed is absolutely on the list. "I" also by meshuggah is a 20 minute song thats so random in its patterns that they had to record it bar by bar in the studio. As far as normally playable meshuggah songs go that also qualify, Marrow is definitely up there with all the ghost notes (check out Eloy Casagrande's cover its insane), Swarm has some very intricate tom work, The Mouth Licking What You've Bled has some insanely dense double bass grooves and the end of their song phantoms has an insanely long ghost note pattern. Other songs i can think of from other bands would be some stuff like: Car Bomb - Spirit of Poison which kinda has everything in terms of difficulty both mentally and physically, Dillinger Escape Plan - Panasonic Youth, Slayer - Angel of Death, Lorna Shore - Into the Earth, Mastodon - Blood and Thunder, Slipknot - Disasterpiece, Archspire - Drone Corpse Aviator, Animals as Leaders - The Woven Web or Gestaltzerfall, Trivium - Kirisute Gomen or Betrayer, Darko US - Dethmsk, Iron Maiden - Caught Somewhere in Time or Where Eagles Dare, Death - Crystal Mountain

Bleed is very hard to play... I'm not sure what "the absolute hardest" would be, but Spawn of Possession's "Apparition" is probably up there being almost 8 and a half minutes long full of insanely fast beats, time signature changes and complex rhythms. Alkaloid's "Rise of the Cephalopods" is incredibly hard just from the length alone (just short of 20 minutes), but when you add in all the crazy blast beat parts, time signature changes and polyrhythms ... It's like playing a death metal Dream Theater song! "Saligia" or "Finite" by Origin deserve mention too... as does basically any song by Archspire, especially anything off their last two albums. Probably the last track off their newest album, "AUM" is an exceptionally hard piece, since it is at or around 400 BPM. "Xenochrist" by The Faceless is really challenging too... Really rapid time signature changes and a lot of facility required at, like most of my picks, insane tempos.... Not to mention the sudden rest notes making keeping pace with everything else even harder. "Cuntcrusher" by Infant Annihilator is another insanely fast song with some really complex beats. Maybe Necrophagist's "Diminished to B" for all the complex time signatures and starts and stops mixed with incredibly high tempo, complex drum beats... Marco Minneman used to crush that one live though. The impression I get is that Meshuggah's "Clockworks" is even harder than "Bleed" to play, but that doesn't make "Bleed" any easier compared to any other song... "Interface to God" by Thorns basically requires you to have such an interface connected to your legs to play the insane double kick that blasts through the entire track... I mean, every drummer has things they're good at, so depending on your skill set some songs that you can play with relative ease would be downright impossible for another drummer. EDIT: Almost forgot First Fragment's "In'el." Almost 19 minutes of pure insanity on every instrument and the drums go just as hard.

@@rexlupis ah this is a great list! but IMO that IA song gets an asterix next to it because the official video is clearly not a live playthrough of the song (drums aren't even mic'd up!), but a pantomime of the studio version of the song, which almost definitely got cleaned up in post as is standard practice (Unless your someone like Flo Mournier or Brennan Shackelford - just two examples), or "enhanced" with hits added in or even fully programmed. Unfortunately unless you were in the studio, it's impossible to know. If you watch his playthrough of the same song here: 'Aaron Kitcher playing Cuntcrusher at Tagima/Nagano Stand @ MONSTERS OF ROCK 2013" You can see it's a much different (and tamer) live performance. Meanwhile, all the other drummers you listed can reliably play their songs at speed whenever called upon. But regardless, CC is a cool song!

🤘 Yesssss 🤘 And thanks for the shout out. Welcome to the Jinjer army! 🫡 I knew you'd appreciate his snare tone, setup, and open-handed playing style. If you want to see Vlad blast off and make it look effortless react to "Mediator" next. Unless something has changed Vlad is a Tama/Zildjian guy.

Vald uses Tama drums. A kick, the two snares, a floor and rack tom down where the first floor would otherwise be. He started out as a classical pianist, then went to guitar and now drums. I think he just naturally went to split stick because piano players rarely cross their hands when they play. There's a better sounding drum playthrough of their song Mediator as well as the song As I Boil Ice. In addition to playthroughs the drums on their songs Home Back and Judgment and Pnishment I think you would enjoy a lot.

@@yarpyarp85 yes, he has a cabled hi hat that sits in front of the kit that he taps the 8th notes on and he has his closed hi hat next to him on his left side. I figured you were going to like the set up, the snare tone and his mastery of ghost notes. He has a very unique perspective when it comes to drumming. I am glad you like it. PS You were close with the name, I won't hold it against you :)

So before I watch the Jinjer reaction I just wanted to say how cool it is that you're legit trying to learn Bleed and play it the right way... Not faking it or dumbing it down. Legit putting in the work and sticking with it. True pro behavior! As my old drum teacher said, if you're having fun, you're not getting better 😂 maybe a little cynical, but holds some truth. Only when we set our minds to solving something that seems insurmountable do we begin to make measurable progress. Arright on to the reaction!

God dude that sentiment is right up my alley and I believe it wholeheartedly. Learning this tune is the some of the hardest work I’ve put in on the instrument ( I bring my lunch box and hard hat everyday lol.) it means a lot that someone notices the effort, thanks brother!

6:45 - One thing that you probably didn't notice due to the fixed camera position is that the hi-hats' pedal he's using does not operate his main hi-hats, it operates another set that's way out in front, right next to the kick. 🙂

Yes Vlad is awsome, seen them play 3 weeks ago and they don't disapoint! His drum cam for "Mediator" is brilliant as well. Also you probably have seen this one already but Danny Carey from Tool playing "Pneuma" is also great. Not as jazzy but still full of odd time signatures, polyrythms and things I can't comprehend.

JINJER!!! Vlad is an awesome drummer with a very jazzy style of playing that contributes greatly to Jinjer's unique style of progressive groove metal. He's a classically trained pianist who taught himself guitar and drums. Despite his open-handed drumming style, he's right handed. He joined Jinjer in 2016 (see Jinjer's Pisces (Live Session), a video released to showcase his drumming which went viral on reaction channels mostly due to Jinjer's very talented vocalist). Over the past several years, he has been composing an increasingly large proportion of Jinjer's music. There are lots of great Vlad drum playthroughs on KZbin. Perhaps the most impressive Jinjer drum playthrough is Mediator Live. He plays along with live instrumentals sans vocals. I'm partial to Under The Dome because it's a great song that doesn't get much attention, & the drumming is incredible! He plays along to the studio track sans drums. Another drum playthrough is Wallflower, a very slow burn of a song. He plays along to the studio track.

Vlad has rather classical than jazz backgroung. Fun fact - he's a classicaly trained pianist actually. Then he learned guitar. And then Vlad learned drums when his previous band lost their drummer and couldn't replace him. He's also the main composer of the band at the last album. And at the upcoming album too I assume.

Loved the react! I'm sure it was way better than the first time through 😂 I've never really paid super close attention to Jinjer but this vid definitely piques my interest! I'll stop beating the Nithing and Brodequin drum for a minute to focus on this guy: Kevin Paradis from Benighted! I actually have two recs for him now (listed by youtube title for easy searching): Benighted - Fame Of The Grotesque - Live Drum Cam - Hellfest Warm Up Tour (Kevin Paradis): This song is a good look at Paradis' speed and stamina, with a peek at his dynamic range to boot. Kevin Paradis - Benighted - Nails - Exclusive Drum Play-through: Studio playthrough of Nails. I think it's a more interesting playthrough than the one above, Paradis' talent is on full display here, especially with the single-foot blasts and the blasst part near the end. So fast!

Okay, actually one more rec you can refer your students to when they don't want to work on their single-stroke rolls... I'm sure you're familiar with Josh Freese, and his tenure in Nine Inch Nails. This version of Wish is soooo badass: KZbin video is: "Josh Freese drumming "Wish" live with NIN"

@@yarpyarp85 of course! Happy to help make the picks easier, or at least give you an idea what to expect without spoiling anything. Imo Paradis's Nails playthrough is the better representation of his talent cause he does a lot of tricky stuff in it, but the track plays under his playthrough, so idk where it lands on the monitization probability scale lol. Fame of the Grotesque is mostly about his speed and endurance with a few cool fills thrown in. As for the Josh Freese video... Well let's just say it's the train beat from hell 😂 seriously it's cool to watch his stick control even when everything else is in psycho mode lol

Hey! Please see 2 old masters: Hellhammer and Inferno. Hellhammer is not only a father of black metal drumming but creator of many side projects, too. His work in Mayhem is classic, but check Arcturus, if You don't know it. It's like metal version of Genesis with Peter Gabriel. Theatrical and progessive. Hellhammers peak of creativity. Inferno from Behemoth also can play in many styles. Not only insane speed but also great groove. J think "Apostasy" album is most technic but "The Satanist" album has more groove. On that album Inferno uses rototoms, so his sound was unique. Thanks for all Your work. Very interesting

Kai Hahto from Nightwish/ Wintersun is anothe Jazzy drummer that is pretty insane. Theres atleast 10 combined with both bands. Kai Hahto performing Wintersun - Sons Of Winter And Stars (Drum Playthrough) & Kai Hahto (Nightwish) Drumcam 'Ghost Love Score' ( Espoo/Finland/13.11.2015) is a good start. Wintersun is generally Symphonic Death metal and Nightwish is Symphonic metal. Both outstanding bands.
