Great playing, and great teaching. Thank you. And thank you for having a real piano that is actually in tune. I get tired of all the electric keyboard “piano” lessons on KZbin.

Thank you, even though I just started using an electronic piano in my videos, so that I could use OBS studio and be more in keeping w/ the "competition".

I've learned so much from you and your videos. I just wanted to say thanks for all of the hard work you put into your videos. People really appreciate it. You have a lifetime of experience and your willingness to share your knowledge & wisdom with others free of charge is a gift that we really appreciate. You are making the world a better place for so many people. Watching you break down a song and sharing your thoughts about how you approach songs are so insightful. Thanks again for doing what you do. Swing Loose! Dave

Hey Dave. You hit the nail on the head. Your words are gold to me. But really I want to reach people on a higher level than just jazz music. I wish I knew how to do that, because I believe that I have more to give than just this Can you offer me some help?

Kent, fantastic! Your presentation on improvisation made a lot of sense. I love the quote “there are no mistakes. If you play a wrong note, play it again!” That’s exactly what I strive to do in my own performances. Of course it helps to know your scales and theory in order to turn those “mistakes” into inspiration. Keep the videos coming!

Thanks so much, Tim. That shows good ingenuity, to just make a new line out of a presumed mistake. I'm glad I was able to illustrate an example of that. Keep in touch!

Thanks for the great compliment. I will admit that there's more fun and freedom playing with a backing band and a good bassist and drummer, and these are samples of actual players. The drummer is excellent Canadian drummer Terry Clark, who I played with a few times in New Haven years ago.

Best rendition of Solar I've ever heard--such a great solo! The second best rendition I've ever heard is part one of this. I've listened to this many times.

I really like the Bill Evans-ish harmonic ideas at 4:16.
@KentHewittpiano88
@KentHewittpiano88 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for recognizing that connection with Bill Evans. (I first heard him live at the Vanguard when I was 18). That's a pattern of 3 against four which Bill Evans uses a lot and I talked about that in the video. Improvisation is not planned, usually, so I was surprise when I listened back and realized I had done that.

Hey, Kent. Where do you find the drum/bass tracks that you're jamming over? I would like some to practice with myself.
@KentHewittpiano88

I created this one myself on Band in a Box. It's a complicated program for me, but you can write the arrangement the way you want it. I have a ways to go before I'll be content with it. There's actually lots of backing tracks free on KZbin...just google the song and backing track.
