Yeah, the speed shoes on Hard/Turbo difficulty are insane, they last far beyond the area designed for speed shoes.

You know, even though this game has simpler movement and physics than Sonic games, the game itself flows much better and it has significantly less downtime.

@SimonN: I started speedrunning JJ1 two weeks ago (more like slowrunning and at this Point only Episode 1) and your video is sooo much help in figuring out how to approach certain situations. I am at 5:08 for the first Episode so your Record is save for now ;) but it is actually higher compared with your time because I used the ingame timer until now. I've never tried speedrunning before and I have an Issue, I use the GOG Version of the game and for some Reason I don't lose my Flying Carpet in Medivo1 and have to fly it until the End of the Level. Is there any trick to losing the carpet or is there a bug. I have a really bad time in Medievo1 because the carpet is much slower than running. Vortale didn't mention it in his speedrun tutorial. Thanks and congratulations for being the best at the best game of my childhood!!! I know I am not entitled to getting an answer to my question. But if you had the time I would greatly appreciate your help. I've already tried to google why this happens. (I already downloaded the Orbitus fix, is there something similar for medivo?)

Hi! To get Floppy physics (like Jazz 1.0 including Medivo airboard ditch) from the GOG release (Jazz 1.3), follow the description for the "hybrid 1.0-1.3" here: www.lixgame.com/jazz/versions.html I'm busy today, but will reply in couple days with more details. 5:08 ingame time is already good after two weeks! Try Livesplit -- I use urn because I'm on Linux, but Livesplit is considered the best on Windows.

I've added the instructions for the hybrid at www.speedrun.com/jj1 -- copy the shareware 1.0's JAZZ.EXE and MENU.000 into GOG's Jazz 1.3 to get 1.0 physics, at the expense of episodes A-C, X, Z, so keep backups of Jazz 1.3. The shareware 1.0 is available at: www.speedrun.com/jj1/resources This will restore 1.0 physics including airboard ditches. 1.0 physics are fastest for Episodes 1-6. The 1.2 has a longer Tubelectric 2, the 1.3 has the near-impossible Orbitus 2 and broken airboard ditches. Looking forward to see your videos! Your Episode 1 in 5:08 IGT should be around 5:30 RTA. ​@@simonn4411 Hi, sry for my late answer for some reason I didn't see any notification. Thank you very much. I only saw your answer because I had problems doing the hard jump in Diamondus 2 reliably (tree to tree) and tried to see how you did it. I don't stream (I don't think people would like to see me being clumsy and hear me cursing all the time ;) ) and I don't know if I will ever get to a point were I would like to upload any runs. Right now I am not really comfortable uploading my "slowruns". Maybe I'll do it when I get better, maybe I won't. For me it's all about fun. I'll check your twitch channel out. As for submitting single Episode runs, I am curently trying getting into episode 2. Just started and played it only a few times. I try to do it episode by episode, otherwise it would just be too much to handle, so I intend to speedrun all 6 original Episodes. I actually found both the lixgame jazz site and the tipp about using the jazz 1.0 executable through google just yesterday! What a coincidence ;) I can't try it right now, I am currently at work enjoying my break. I'll do so tonight. I just went to the jazz1 speedrun page and I realised you are german, too. ​@@simonn4411 Ich habs inzwischen mit der neuen Jazz.exe und Menu.0000 gespielt. Bei 40.000 cycles verhält sich das Spiel total seltsam, es stockt und ist unspielbar, wenn ich aber mit 100.000 oder mehr cycles spiele verhält sich das Spiel stellenweise sogar deutlich besser als die Gog Version. Ich war z.B. nie in der Lage in Tubelectric aus vollem Lauf die drei glühenden Stäbe zu zerschießen, egal wie schnell ich auf feuern gedrückt hab (gleiches gilt für die 4 Stäbe im Levelende). Ich musste immer für ca. 'ne drittel sekunde den Finger von der rechts taste nehmen damit ich durchkomme ohne dagegenzurennen. Es ist auch leichter die Sprünge präzise zu timen. Allerdings stockt das Spiel dafür an manchen stellen massiv wodurch präzise Eingaben nur schwer möglich sind außerdem läuft der Timer normal weiter. Es scheint als hätte mein Computer schon vorher irgendein Problem mit Dosbox gehabt, das durch deinen Trick noch schlimmer geworden ist. Mein System ist schon 'ne Weile nicht mehr neu installiert worden und läuft nicht mehr so stabil wie früher und hat hin und wieder seine Macken, wird wohl daran liegen. Im Augenblick hab ich aber wirklich nicht den Nerv mir 'ne Neuinstallation anzutun. Werd wohl daher vorerst mit der normalen Gog Version weiterspielen . Bin aber gespannt welche Zeiten ich schaffe wenn ich mal 'ne vernünftig spielbare Version ohne Stocken hab, habs z.B. grad geschafft meinen Rekord in Tubelectric 1 um fast 2 Sekunden zu verbessern und bin erstmals unter 1 Min geblieben. Nochmal danke für die Hilfe, werd mir den Trick für merken und wenn ich erstmal mein System neu aufgesetzt hab wird dein Rekord nicht mehr lange bestehen ;)
