Jimin looks like an inhabitant of a fairy world (I so agree with you, Caitlin😉 ), full of fluffy, cosy, delicate and sweet cushions, and what comes to my mind is a duckling or a kitten. I love this MV! One of the first songs I discovered of BTS, it is very dear to me. And after seeing your analysis as a musician, Andrew, I’m thrilled even more. This is the song that introduced me to BTS, so this song is VERY special to me. I watched a reactor who is Korean (educated abroad, lives abroad but Korean) and he said when Jimin sings "naye cheonsa naye sesang" - those runs are typical to Korean melodies (not the words but the trilling sound) and he was shocked that BTS incorporated into a pop song and made it sound so beautiful. The choreography is so fluid and sensuous, it seems superfluous for Jimin to show his abs, the entire performance mesmerizes and entices the audience.

In some short sections of live performances when there is choreo that requires different breathing techniques, the backing track is used…Jimin does not lip sync though. None of BTS do. Reactors who are choreographers have said you need to use different breathing techniques for dancing and singing. Makes sense especially when he twists, turns and dives. 🥹 The ability to manage & concentrate on, the complexity of a live performance while still emitting such stage presence is impressive.

A calico cat is a 3-colored cat. Its the rarest cat color in the world. Usually cats are solid or bi-color. So our baby mochi is saying that he is a rare species (he is!). There is a video in bangtantv by a BigHit staff who filmed jimin candidly. Jimin was singing serendipity acapella casually while pacing the stage (some other members were also onstage doing their own thing). And Jimin sang those amazing runs.

I was lucky enough to have seen this exact performance. It was truly a transcendental moment in my life. Jimin was so ethereal, fluid and just lovely. I cried the whole performance though, lol. It was just him coming up in the bubble, it was so beautiful and it just got to me. I LOVE all of Jimin's solos. To be honest, I cried a lot that concert because I got to see Jimin, Suga, V, Jin vocal line and rap line perform songs that have been particularly impactful to and for me. I was super impressed. Don't get me wrong, Kookie, Joonie and Hobi gave stellar performances as well, but Serendipity, Seesaw, Singularity, Epiphany, The Truth Untold and Outro: Tear are just chef's kiss level songs for me.

This song is so sweet and gentle. I think too often when people talk about love it’s only and exclusively the lustful/sex side in music and it’s in your face. This is such a sweet and innocent like absolutely magical and like a fairy king for sure. The duality with the dancing being a hint (or more) of the sensual moves but not crude. Serendipity is my favourite Jimin song and in my top 10 songs of all time. Thankyou so much for this reaction, Andrew, your insights are always appreciated! Also I love the examples you put in about the BPM. I think what you illustrated can be seen in the choreo as well - he hits every single beat while dancing. His solo dance was also his own choreo/freestyle ( the section with no backup dancers) and you can really see how his body moves and syncs to the beat. He's really poetry in motion while he dances. Serendipity will never ever going to leave my rankings in my top favorite songs of BTS. I mean, this song is just so beautiful and magical! And with Jimin's soft and angelic voice, it's chef's kiss. Also, just wanted to tell you that you should've watched the stage mix performance of the song as it emphasizes the dance moves more, unlike here that the camera sometimes capture the crowd and not focus entirely on Jimin. I love this song. If I am not mistaken, RM wrote the song for Jimin. Something I love about Jimin's performance is that he doesn't "fake" singing the parts where he's not actually singing live. He lets his dancing shine. The choreography is so intense; I love Jimin's dancing. It's what brought BTS into my life. Jimin's live performance of "LIE" was pushed to my timeline bec I watch a LOT of dancing videos. Hearing his voice & watching him dance, I had to know who he was.....and.....BOOM...down the BTS rabbit hole I went. I will forever be GRATEFUL TO JIMIN for bringing BTS into my life. Theres a lot of imagery we suspect the cat has. If I'm not mistaken calico cats are predominantly female. I think about 1 in 3000 are male. Calico is not a breed but a fur pattern which may be unique to them, they just share the same colours. Jimin refers to himself as a calico cat in the song a rarity and the album is called Love Yourself: Her. I also thinks it speaks to while he is a rarity, and he is destined to be with the one that he loves. To another extent it could mean that while he is a rarity he does share a part of himself with everyone else.

Jimin has a remarkable voice. Early on he didn't have individual voice coaching (see Burn the Stage movie about BTS 2017 world tour) as his main talent is as a contemporary dancer and was not using his voice to its full potential. Luckily, with BTS success and the growth of BigHit/HYBE the company was later able to afford coaching for him and others.
