1941Olds Super Trumpet - fully restored it's A Monster! ACB Show & Tell

I have a 1941 Olds Super. It’s a great horn. I’ve had a fair few Olds instruments and the 1941 tops them all, even the Super Recording I had. Mine is in original condition: unrestored and great patina. If you see one, buy it!

I have a TON of respect & appreciation for the skill/craftsmanship involved in making a brass instrument, but have a difficult time understanding how a "modern " maker thanks they can improve on an example like that.

I like the centered feel of this Super better than most recordings.

I played a Recording from 1963 for many years and I loved that horn. During this time, I had a few Supers but I couldn’t find a Super that lived up to the hype. That’s just me. I do wish I could play a Super like this one that was restored by a good tech. I didn’t like the spacing of the valves on the Supers. They feel further apart than on any other trumpet I’ve played. I did like the offset valves of the Recording, a lot. I also liked the balanced feel of the Recording where the valve block is closer to the player. The trombone style water keys on these horns are beautiful and I think they work great as well. All of these old - Olds horns are so beautiful! I thought my Recording played like buttah - as they say.
