When I finally turned Rag Doll over and found this, I thought Marlena /Candy Girl or Hound Dog/Don't be Cruel Rag Doll was such a monster though song of the summer 64 not many listened to this super sad But Rag Doll Dawn Ronnie Save It For Me what a 64 the Seasons had!!! .

The Jersey boys (SHERRY, BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY, WALK LIKE A MAN, RAG DOLL)were one of the greatest groups to come out of an era that gave us the Beach Boys and the Beatles. This song made the Tremeloes super-stars.

Why didn't the 4 Seasons record their own version? They DID! It was on their first Phillips album, "Born to Wander" and was the B side of Rag Doll. That's where the Tremeloes heard it. This version here outshines all other versions!

The April 2013 stuff he did with a new group of Seasons, Frankie still has it in a big way. He is scheduled for Aug. 17. 2013 in Lincoln, CA (near Sacramento) in a postponed June 1 concert in which the 79 year old icon wasn't feeling well and pulled the plug like 72 hours prior.

I like that one too. I was fortunate to see Frankie and the Four Seasons at a nightclub back around 1975. The keyboard player was sort of the spokesman for the group. He poked fun at the Tremolos version as it was note for note the same version the Four Seasons had originally done.

I like the modern rendering, in my maturity. Flip side of Rag Doll? That was the one I liked, that big hit. But this is a deep concept, silence is golden. The great adepts speak to it. I like the riffs.

After listening to their original recording of this song, I'm glad they decided to speed up the tempo, taking a tip from The Tremelos (their version was the bigger hit at the time it was released). I personally prefer the Tremelos release, but I do like this one, especially the harmonica. ;)

Silence is Golden is one of those rare songs that just lends itself to live performance. Not that the Studio Session isn't great, the live performance expresses more emotion from all the performers, especially Frankie's lead voice.

Pretty powerful performance, and though for this fan no later crew of Seasons will ever top the "cool factor" that diminished after the original 5 (the late beloved Joe Long being fifth, although Charlie Calello is an unsung hero), Frankie looks great here and the band ace!

I believe it's a type of Vocoder. He actually plays the notes on the keyboard, but the Vocoder let's him have more control, allowing him to slur notes and give the impression of an electric piccolo.

It is a Yamaha synthesizer breath controller. They were made to use with the old Yamaha DX-7 synthesizers.

The Tremeloes cover was a note for note copy of the 4 Seasons original. They increased the tempo a bit, but that's about the only difference. This arrangement is either the 4th or 5th version Valli's used for a live performance. Bob Crewe and Bob Guadio collaborated to write the song.
