Just did a 8,000 mile RV trip to western Canada and USA. The most popular truck by far in all the RV parks was the new GM diesels. It used to be Ford and Dodge but not anymore. In talking to the owners, they all loved the power of the Duramax and the smoothness of the 10 speed Allison. GM seems to have hit a home run with these HD trucks.

GMs are nice riding trucks and have fantastic interiors no question. Definitely smoother than the ford and the rams. However the big killer for me on the ford and the GMs is that poor excuse for an exhaust brake. It really is a big deal towing heavy through the Rockies. There is a reason why the majority of the hotshoters drive the ram. Although there are some things I admire on the gm, I won’t give up the exhaust brake, and how much easier the Cummins is to work on. Get gm to fix that exhaust brake and I would prolly come back to one.

Haha! Yea I really like this truck and it does have the best exterior design. I second the 3500 just for the extra payload but man the exhaust brake is a killer. @matthewanderson99122 жыл бұрын
@@JB_WhoWork I agree the Rams have a better exhaust brake. GM wants you to use cruise and then also really get on the brakes to get the truck to downshift. You do that and they will lose speed even on an 8% grade. Low speed maneuvering though you definitely have to get on brakes more. I think that’s got as much to do with engine design as anything else.

I have a 2012 3500hd with the duramax. When I use the exhaust brake in tow mode all i have to do is give it a little bit of brake to get the exhaust brake to engage. As soon as the exhaust brake kicks in it stops quickly. Just letting off the gas will let it coast until it get to 40-45 mph then the exhaust brake kicks in and slows it down fast. Just tapping the brake at 70 mph isn't going to do anything, you have to give it a constant petal. It doesn't need to me much, just enough to let the computer know you need to slow down now not just coast. I think if you had time to get use to the truck, you would want any other.

The reasons commercial companies buy trucks is far diffrent then why people who use them for personal use. One of the big driving decisions on buying a truck is service centers. When it comes to rams and the Cummins there is no equal in terms of service centers. Every ram dealer can work on cummins, every cummins dealer can work on a cummins, every heavy duty truck dealer is also a cummins dealer. You have a mega cab. So compare to the GMC cabs you just use how is the back seat spacing from the mega cab to these larger Crews.

LOL at that price. I purchased a 2022 Denali dually in November for $64,700.00 And it’s loaded and was brand new.

Have you figured out how to deploy your exhaust brake yet?
@kurtomac2 жыл бұрын
I left GM in 2016 when I traded my 2015 3500 Denali and got my 2017 F250. They are still behind in the interior game and until they catch up, I will continue to go with something else. The screen looks so stupid in the truck. I currently own a 2020 F450 Platinum and if I could ever find a 2022 F450 I'll snag one, for now I'll stick with what I got until someone comes out with something new. The CP3 on the new RAMs is appealing.

Can remember if you’ve done one or not , but if you get the chance, check out the Denali 2500/3500. I’m curious if the interior is much better

Nope they would be the same but from the rumors, 2023 might be GM’s year 👀

82K is ridiculous. I bought my 21 F350 crew cab , long bed, diesel dually for 62K in January of 21 before the prices took off. I think 75 mph is too fast to pull any trailer, especially in a truck I don’t own. I stay at 62-65 and enjoy the drive. My G rated 5th wheel Sailun tires are rated for a top speed of 75.

Look at you showing the love to GM lol. You need to redo this test with a 2017 - 2019 model year with a diesel and the 6spd. I had a 2017 and 6spd and thought the diesel brake was quite effective. It’s possible with all the extra gearing it’s not as aggressive now. Only you can find the answer.

It is not an Allison transmission. Chevy and ford built the transmission together and had Allison engineers look at the transmission. Gm asked the Allison engineers if they could put the Allison logo on the truck. Allison engineers said ok . I know a few people that bought gm trucks and they were told they are not real Allison transmissions
@andyjohnson67422 жыл бұрын
Ford has nothing to do with the Allison branded 10 speed HD transmission. Gm builds it completely with Allison’s specs, Ford and Gm co-developed the 10 speed for 1/2 ton trucks and some cars aka the Camaro and mustang.
@denistaramasso97242 жыл бұрын
Also the 3/4 and one ton got this from a friend that works for Allison. Why would you go to your competitors to help you build a transmission when gm once owned Allison. I lost respect for gm .

You can get a brand new one from Laura Buick Gmc for$ 78,715. I don't understand why these used trucks are more than new?

Hoping you could help me out or some people who read these comments. My work needs a tow rig for between 10k-15k lbs. it’s portable stage. Would be towing around md so not many mountains, my thoughts were f250 with the 7.3, I figured gas in case someone was driving it(besides me) and would forget to put diesel in it
@EBKRV4122 жыл бұрын
It will outperform both in the 3/4 ton diesel segment on paper and at the scales no matter what with GM having the higher GVWR over Ford and Ram...GM gives you the OPTION to downgrade to a 10000lb gvwr as of last year ford does have a higher payload gvwr capacity option now on the 3/4 ton diesels...but nothing for ram...Ram is really behind the times in the GVWR game and cab size game for sure...for those 2 reasons I'd never spend the $ on them right now
@JB_WhoWork2 жыл бұрын
Yup, GM is really putting in the effort to beat the other two and it shows with a larger short bed, moving fifth prep behind axle and GVWR increase 👍🏾

The sway your talking about do you think it’s from goose ball or do you think it would still have a little sway with conventional hitch
@JB_WhoWork2 жыл бұрын
Good question, I wouldn’t suspect sway from my setup being a gooseneck but I would have to switch to a fifth wheel hitch/pinbox to compare
@Em_jiggy2 жыл бұрын
@@JB_WhoWork that would be a good video! You do great on the truck videos, so if you had a segment in hitch comparisons it would be so good for the channel!
