Excellent comparison. You have great knowledge of the trucks you compare and it shows. But what I love about you is you are not scared to give your opinion and views on the trucks you feature. So many other reviewers will have a title like “Truck X & Truck Y which on is better” then they do a fluff review of features and never answer their own question. And yes I know as viewers it’s ultimately our decision to determine a winner but I like you JB cuz your not afraid to call it like you see it. Keep em coming!

Personally, I'd pick the Ranger. I tend to like more conservative designs and the Ranger fits the bill. Plus, when the 2.7L EcoBoost becomes available it'll be a rocket.

I have a good friend and 25-year long time employee and I promised him a truck one day. I was going to get him a Toyota or Nissan in my mind but drove both these trucks last. After putting about 10 miles on each I ended up getting a 39k XLT Ranger. I felt it was definitely the quietest, best seats, excellent towing 7500 which was important...but felt really well put together going down the road. When you closed the doors, the thump sounded solid. The dealer was cool and pulled invoice and took another 500.00 off..so a savings of a little over 2000.00. We will surprise him on Monday late morning. Good review JB.

It's interesting to see what the American spec Rangers are like. Here in New Zealand the bed-side steps come standard on all trims, and the rear passenger air vents are available. We also have a 3.0L diesel V6 engine available (same exact engine that used to be available in the F-150).

Just what this Kiwi would also say, but I'll add that the Ranger is FAR AND AWAY NZ's biggest selling vehicle, nearly has double the sales of the best selling car. Ford NZ's advert is hilarious, with two blokes yelling out RANGER, every time they see one; and for real this morning I saw 11 in as many minutes....they're that popular !!

Just highly optioned a XLT FX4 2.7tt V6, high trim, which has my preferred cloth seats in Sandstone colour; so it has almost as much kit as that Lariat, but has a spray in bedliner and soft tonneau cover....$39,595base price + $8,420 options = $49,610 including delivery; just $75 more than the Lariat 4 cylinder in this video !!

Great comparison and analysis. I much prefer the exterior styling of the Chevy to the bland Ford. However, for me, buying a truck is about the functions of towing our small camper and hauling camping gear. In terms of these specific trucks, I would choose the Ford given it has over 200 lbs more of payload. Both are solid offerings in the midsize segment. I am buying at the end of 2024 and will cross shop all trucks in the segment, including the Ranger and Colorado.

I think you forgot to mention that Chevy comes with 4 auto which is very nice feature to have and plus the google map is a standard feature as well even without connecting your phone.That would be fair to mention in the review.

Chevy looks better also has a better interior…..Chevy got my money this time as I bought a 2024 Colorado, I did drive New Ranger and new Tacoma. Chevy won hands down for me.

The Lariat is an upgraded model comparable to the GMC Canyon Denali. Of course, you must add options to the Z71 to try to get equality. Compare the Z71 to the XLT.

It’s going to be all about opinions and Chevy lovers will say Chevy. My opinion, they are both very capable and if offered a good deal on either I would take either truck. Interesting about the Chevy, with so much horsepower why the lower payload? It just doesn’t make proportional sense to have such a powerful engine and such a meager payload. So it’s heavier, add an extra leaf spring (I don’t know)I also noticed it’s slower than the Ford too? So in conclusion and at first glance, aside from the options you discussed, less efficient use of power in the Chevy platform even with the 3.42 vs 3.73 axle since Ford is trailing in torque by over 100 lbs? Ford seems to have the better mixture of power, efficiency and options. I definitely concur with your analysis.

Where I live you can't walk on the Ford's dealership and buy a new vehicle from the lot. The new Ford's are all sold to someone. Every other brand has new vehicles available for sale with a big price tag saying price reduced.

Ford needs to put the AUTO 4 Wheel Drive so you can have that activated on WET Rainy roads for better safety and less wheel spin when accelerating

Because it isn’t hyper angular like all the new stuff. It’s an international design so it has to be more generic, but honestly it’s the only one I do like because it doesn’t have all those ridiculous angles. It’s smooth and with some off-road upgrades it’ll have all the aggressiveness it needs

I paid $31k for a nicely equipped Colorado LT and the biggest engine with an MSRP of $38,xxx. Still a lot of money but not close to $50k. Wife loves it!

Honestly just get a Z71 and trailboss it yourself. Trailboss is probably slightly(heavy emphasis) nicer for off roading but at the end of the day it's just a work truck with a barely noticeable lift. You can slap a lift and new tires/wheels on a z71 for 3ish thousand instead of going full blown ZR2.

It's not "Cruise Control" that is optional. CC is standard. What is optional is "Super Cruise", which allows you not only cruise your speed but also you don't need to hold the steering wheel.

Great comparison, no vented seats avail on Ford and no pwr sliding rear window on Chevy, WTF, LOL, bummer. Only Taco has all but is way over priced. Nissan is awesome but has it's short comings too, can't win. Waiting for 2025 to see who makes adjustments.

The GM twins, Chevy and GMC are the best looking trucks in the segment. Subjective yes, for sure. For me it was close. But I’ve never owned a GM product and I’ve owned 6 Fords with only 1 dubious unit, so my money went into the Ranger with the 2.7. If the Toyota rear seat was just a bit more accommodating, and Toyota weren’t being dick heads about availability, I would surely have been driving a Tacoma.

Both manufacturers wheels are trash, IMO. I think it’s also worth mentioning that ford found a way to increase the distance between the wheelhouses to 48.2 inches giving it enough room for sheets of plywood. Chevy has the colorados at 45.5
