TSDZ2 OPENSOURCE FIRMWARE | INSTALLING TEMPERATURE SENSOR

This is one of the best features of the Opensource firmware. By installing the LM35DZ sensor directly on the motor we can monitor the motor temperature on the LCD screen in real time. You can also set a temperature where the power starts to drop off and a temperature where the motor will actually cut out to prevent permanent damage which can happen at around 95 deg C. If you think the motor will never get that hot then think again. On a warm day and a normal ride home I was able to get the temperature up to 78 degrees. It is a bit fiddly but well worth the effort.

Wtf i just ordsred this whole motor kit 5mins before watching this video.. You hit temp threshold going 12km/hr! Brutal. I hope theres a cooling mod of some kind i could do..

Drill some holes in the motor cover. Put some screen material on inside to keep bugs out.

For anyone else wondering about the "negative" and "earth" terminology, us Australian's tend to use those terms rather than GND when referring to the zero volt reference net of a circuit.

Great video. Am gonna look into getting one of these due to your videos on it. One thing I'd note above though, would it make sense to test it first before hotgluing, and then reopening and sealing it up with the glue only when you were sure it was all working ok?

I noticed you are now riding a commercial E-bike with the bosch cx motor, how does the TSdz2 compare with that and as I am considering either fitting a motor or buying a ready to ride name brand what do you recommend ? thanks in advance

Ive been watching , and made the decision to go for the TSDZ2 instead of the 8fun on the back of the original video, I'm a little disappointed with the performance, it kicks in well on a hill but for long cycle routes on the flat, it doesn't provide enough assistance when you have tired legs on the way home! This update would be great if it was available as a plug in solution

Have you had to replace the controller? I am getting an E03 error code about the controller. have a 52v 750w tsdz2. Yes the throttle was very underwhelming!

I would definitely have put the temp sensor on the very motor winding, then you really got the temperature you would go after.

Looks like the open source firmware re-uses an analog ADC throttle input for the temp reading instead. The developer must have figured out which analog input to read. If temp and throttle were desired, then either another analog input has to be available, or this one needs multiplexing with some way of signaling the code which is in use. Lots more to be done. Kudos.

I don't think losing the throttle on this motor is a big deal but there is a digital output available too which he could have used but chose not to

Hey Jbala, Seems im running into the same problems concerning the temp sensor you had prior. Im reading 4.4 from input to ground but can get any data out of it. My screen is showing a constant 16 degrees with or without sensor. What fixed it for you ?

they were just crappy sensors, had to pay $2 instead of $1 to get a good one that actually worked. Just double check your wiring just in case.

Why do you say the throttle is not very useful with the custom firmware?

The torque sensing is very good if you want a throttle then you have picked the wrong motor. It was never developed and it was decided to use the throttle port for the temperature sensor.

I think I will just buy a cheap digital termometer for the car, put it on the handlebar next to the main display and glue the probe on the motor. That way I don't need to fiddle with the controller wires and I can keep the throttle. It would not cut the power automatically but I can monitor the temperature myself and take care not to overheat the motor.

That is a much better idea. I plan to do the same. The thick layer of PCB coating is there for a reason. Prying it apart to solder a heat mod seems like a good way to invite problems.

"Really good idea" - it is not the temperature sensor. It is the cooling upgrade. I use wide copper cable and got 75->65 degrees.

The high temperature is what causing the plastic wheel to fail.
