What are your thoughts on having the coins professionally cleaned? As I understand it, one should never do it themselves as it may devalue or scratch the coins. I came across several of these in near mint condition save a stain that looks like they were sitting in some short of liquid.

I have 4 bicentennial silver dollar coins, I believe they are circulated, they were left to me by my father, I would really like to know their value, and would like to hopefully sell them to help me out financially (if worth anything at all) I do not know they have a value higher than a dollar. My mom bought and left me one each of a Bicentennial dollar, half-dollar, and quarter. (There is also a sealed 1963--I THINK that's what it says, but it's hard to tell through the wrapper; I have no idea why that would be a collectible.) The dollar, from what you said about the thickness and relief of the lettering on the back, is a type 1, I believe. It's got a slightly goldish sheen to it (so does the half-dollar), and it's in a round plastic sealed holder, like the other ones. The quarter is more of a straight silver color. It's hard to see the mint marks, but I think they say "s." I know nothing about this stuff. Is any of it worth getting an appraisal?
