There’s something comical in such duplicity, and in fact, 19-year-old Indian national Aryan Anand did apparently fake a death certificate for his father to receive a scholarship at the prestigious university, but that was neither the beginning nor the end of his fraud scheme. This case highlights key vulnerabilities in a student visa system that came under heavy scrutiny even before it was exploited by one (or more, depending how you look at it) of the hijackers in the September 11th attacks - vulnerabilities that still remain and that could be easily exploited by those who seek to harm our country and its institutions.

If you go over his post and carefully analyse it once again, you'll learn that it was just him- not his parents not the society but just him and his selfishness that led to all this. You can evidently understand that he wasn't an overachieving student during school days. There wasn't a lot of pressure to perform at the level best (you can infer that from the part where he says that he got into the university to his parents and his dad immediately goes "how? You don't even know how to add two numbers?" So its clear he wasn't a particularly brilliant student when it comes to academics). And it can also be noticed in several places that his father was willing to pay the fees but he wanted a full ride just so that he won't have to listen to his father who provides the money anymore. His motives are clearly personal. And also, if there is such a pressure to pursue education from the society's side it is not as big as having to get into a top us university, that rules out the society part, too.
