Old 56 still good, new one, both bit on the slow side for AF? 50 f1, new viltrox 75 1.2, 90? Maybe the 50-140 in combination with a prime?

I agree on most of what you recommended. Regarding the batteries, I have bought a couple of no-names some four years ago for as little as 5 € / $ each, and I haven't encountered any problems. I can't see any difference in performance, they might deliver slightly less shots than the originals from Fujifilm, but at a fraction of the cost, that was a no-brainer, and I don't regret it. I bought my first Fuji (an X-T10) with the 18-55 kit lens, and this lens is really great. When shooting events this zoom lens is more comfortable to use than fixed primes. But whenever I can, I prefer my beloved 35 mm f/2 and my 16 mm f/2.8.

In my place, almost all photographers recommended me to buy Canon, Nikon or Sony full frame cameras especially for wedding photography. For them Fujifilm can't compete with those 3 brands because Fuji is famous for manufacturing crop sensor cameras. But after watching your videos, I am convinced to buy a Fuji as my 1st camera to do event photography. Thank you sir for motivating us who are considering to use Fuji as the main tool for event photography! Definitely going to prove to them that Fujis are great cameras for event photography!

Agreed on the F2 lenses for price and auto focus, but in low light venues like dingy churches an extra stop from the older faster lenses is appreciated. I think Fuji would do well to upgrade the 56 1.2 with modern focussing system as it’s a staple lens for wedding photogs, but I wouldn’t trust it in AF-C which is a big deal for candid moments or movement to camera situations. Nice video John, you have impeccable taste in gear. I was worried about the holdfast straps being squeaky in use. I have a spider lite holster for a body and a peak design strap for another... but I don’t look as flash as you!
@jbivphotography5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I would LOVE to see the fast lenses but with the newer focusing system. That would win me over. Because I have rented the 1.4 lenses and that extra stop of light is nice in some situations, but I've gotten so use to the f/2 lenses that I know how to work around it in most situations.

Though I do not shoot weddings, I do shoot various events. I like to blend into the background so my gear changes on the circumstance. My primary body is the XH1, my secondary is the XPRO3. I keep the 16-55 on the XH1, and the 50-140 on the XPRO3 throughout the majority of the day and night while shooting. I also shoot the 23mmF1.4 for very low light scenarios coupled to the IBIS enabled XH1 body. I have the 16mm1.4 for very specific close yet wide character shots. The MCEX 11 and 16 are always nearby and handy. The 35mmF2 on the XPRO3 is my favourite discreet setup and what I turn to with the electronic shutter if I need to be as discreet as possible. I have a couple of GoDox on and off body flashes as well. Phew. I may be leaving something out, but that is the main gist of my carry for when people are depending on my photography.

@mr.b44444 жыл бұрын
Using Fuji now from Nikon. I don't do wedding photography professionally anymore, getting too old for that. However, I was wondering about you not using a longer lens for better compression. Sure I have the 56 1.2 as well but in essence with the crop factor it is really only a 1.8 lens as far as bokeh is concerned although it is a 1.2 for exposure. What was wrong with the 90mm f2? The 56 forces you to get closer to the subject with less compression which does not look as flattering to my eyes as well as the subject being more conscious of you photographing them in some candid situations. Some churches don’t want you up close to the front during the ceremony either. With my Nikon gear I was using a 70-200 2.8 and sometimes I would rent the 200mm f2 for that buttery bokeh and separation. Perhaps your style does not require a longer lens but I would need one for sure. Anyhow, great work!

I thought for a minute you were going to recommend the 50mm f2 over the 56mm f1.2 and I was getting ready to protest. Any of the other f2 lens are amazing(and the 50mm f2 is as well, it's just not a replacement for the 56mm. It has a different look and a different place in the bag) but the 56mm is mandatory. As for the batteries, I've used Wasabi and never had any issues BUT.... it seems as though the battery meter in camera is less reliable with those batteries. I know once the meter in camera goes below the 50% mark, it's a bit of a dice roll. I don't know if you've ever had your hands on it, but (and especially if you have a second shooter) check out the Mitakon 35mm f0.95. Nailing manual focus on a dance floor is hard, but when you pull it off the results are amazing. Once I have all of the super important "event" shots done for the night and it's down to people watching and dancing/partying I'll usually switch over to that and an X100F and just have a good time.
@jbivphotography5 жыл бұрын
😂😂 Yeah the 56 is my one exception to the "I like the f/2 versions better". I actually have never even tried the 50. Might have to pick it up sometime. Also I really want to try out the Mitakon.

@@jbivphotography If I'm being honest, the 50 f2 has one dedicated purpose for me. I use it during the ceremony itself as people are walking down the aisle. Very nice video, as always. Coming from Canon FF (since the film days..:) I shot the majority of the last wedding season on Fuji. I use 2 x-t2´s and an x-t1. As tempting as the x-t3 is I don´t find I need it. As for lenses the 56mm f1,2 is my favourite as well. But I also like the older, faster f1,4 primes- the 23mm f1,4 and the 35mm f1,4. They may be a bit slower to focus but the extra stop of light and the better separation make up for that- at least for me :)

Excellent information as usual John, the Godox system is awesome. I shoot Nikon and Fuji and have several v860s, five to be exact one specifically for the Fuji system, but I got an excellent used price with the pro trigger. With the godox system and I have the explorer 600 strobe as well for portraits the only thing you need to do is change the triggers, example when shooting Nikon change to the Nikon trigger, when using Fuji change to the Fuji trigger and all lights and strobe just work same with the Sony system, just change the trigger. Keep up the great work man, you keep it short and sweet and I like your style. The Holdfast gear isn’t bad price wise and it looks like genuine leather that will wear well. That ad200 and 360 system is something I’m looking into as well.

Yeah the Godox system really is just so easy to use. I've been a huge fan of it ever since switch over to it. Nothing is easier. I shoot video and stills. . I heard and read that the 16-55 f2.8 is great for video because of the great auto focus. For stills, I saw your video about 23, 35, 56mm f2 lenses and they also look great. I’m wondering if it’s waste of money to buy these prime lenses if I’m buying the zoom lense. What do you think?
@jbivphotography4 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s a waste. I’m actually looking to get a 16-55 myself for more of my video stuff. If you have the budget to handle having the primes for your stills and also the zoom for your video then I’d say go ahead and do it.

Really hope to get an answer here, I’m looking to switch from my eos r to the tx3! I was curious if you had to choose your top two lenses to start what would it be!? I mainly just do photography portraits as well as street!!!

If money is no object, the 56/1.2 and 16/1.4 or 23/1.4 are top of the line.

Hi John, I recently discovered channel and hope you read and comment it.. will and had my first wedding. Question..You talk highly about the 23mm f2 at f2. But I tried several ones but no one was sharp at f2. It's sharp around 5.6...... Any ideas about that?? Love your channel!!!

Are micro SD cards better, worse or equal than regular SD cards i’ve seen stores are leaving SD cats a side Ana just offering Micro SD bit photographer friends always tell me to go for regular SD. What are your thoughts on that subject?

Props on the video. I shoot mostly sony... okay all sony. I'm thinking of making the switch. Any thoughts on what fuji camera would be best for wildlife photography? I may keep my sony gear for wildlife and get an entirely new set up with fuji to handle events and agency work. A little confused by all the numbers and letters in the fuji line up.
@jbivphotography4 жыл бұрын
I’m not 100% familiar with every Fuji camera but I would assume that for wildlife stuff you’ll really want a camera that could do high shutter speeds. The X-T3 & 4 have really awesome sports modes that crop in a bit and shoot up to like 30-40 frames a second with the electronic viewfinder and with no black out. I would assume that’s something you want to look into.

Taking into account lenses that John recommended, on FF will be enough 24-70 f2.8 and a prime 85mm))) But even with 2 a7iii + sigma 24-70, its more expensive than fuji kit)

@prabijshrestha5 жыл бұрын
I like primes but I use zoom for events as its more versatile . Its my personal taste . 18-135 on 80d works perfectly fine for me. But I miss creamy bokeh so now I want 24-70 f2.8 .

Hi John. I'm new to Fuji, and am making my way through your videos. Loving them! I only have a couple batteries and know I need more. What do you use to charge that many batteries though? Do you use any kind of multi-charger that will do more than one battery at a time?

Hi John. Thank you for all the effort you put into making these videos. I have found them helpful as I am trying to decide which lenses to use in my Fujifilm wedding kit as I get back into wedding photog after taking a haitus to do documentary photog for ngo’s. If you had Fujifilms wider apature versions of the 16mm, 23mm, and 35mm, would you still shoot with the f2 versions? I own both, but I like the light weight of the smaller lenses, but concerned about loosing xtra stops of light in low light scenarios. Hoping for some feedback
@jbivphotography5 жыл бұрын
Great question. If I had the faster lenses I would transition the f/2 ones into my mainly for video lenses. The older focusing system is really clunky when it comes to video.

Hi John Considering making the jump from Nikon to Fuji. Currently my Fuji camera is the X100F. Looking at the XT3 with 56mm or the new 50mm. I'm having issues with uploading to Lightroom. Can't download from the camera direct plus doesn't want to recognize the RAW files. Any thoughts on this issue? Thanks

Hi i have the xt3 and i was wondering if xt30 would be a great camera as my second camera?
@jbivphotography4 жыл бұрын
Oh totally. I LOVE the X-T30 and own one. My only real thing I'm not a fan of is the fact that it only has the little "nub" on the back rather than the "4 arrows" for navigation. Other than that the X-T30 is a great camera and the quality is amazing. I actually did a styled shoot with it and the X-T3 and you almost can't tell the difference between the cameras. kzbin.info/www/bejne/imWUdn2to9yJatE

Hey John! Could you let us know what battery charger you are on? I don't see that fujifilm has a dual battery charger option. Do you use a dual battery charger?
@jbivphotography4 жыл бұрын
I’m currently just using the standard charger that comes with the camera. Basically, how I charge up before a wedding is I put a battery in each charger (2) and then I also have battery grips for each of my cameras. They hold two batteries each (4) then I charge up the grips as well. I have 4 spare batteries so the 2 that go into the charger first and then when they’re dong I swap them. That’s my whole charging process. I wish I had a dual battery charger because that would make things a little easier.
@ChanelCruz334 жыл бұрын
@@jbivphotography This helps! I didn't want to buy an off-brand dual charger and mess up my battery. Thank you for posting these videos! I am just joining the photography world and your channel has been a lifesaver. I just bought my Fujifilm X-T3 so you have another dedicated subscriber!!!

For budget, Should I choose XT30 instead of XT3 for wedding?
@jbivphotography4 жыл бұрын
The X-T30 is totally possible. You'll just have to figure out a process for your batteries since you won't be able to use a battery grip.
