Did you do this test straight out of the box? Is it true that drivers need to stretch out a bit to sound their best? Maybe the Pulse needed some excercise?

It actually sounds very good for the size... the whole speaker is pretty big but most of the space is occupied by the lights...

Great review, and thank you for comparing it to the Charge 3. These speakers are much cheaper now as they’ve been updated. I just bought a Boombox on a flash sale, and two of the Pulse 3 to go with it.

Don't have either one of them but I like that Pulse 3 with colour changing light. I'm sure as years go along they'll get better with improving it. Sounds decent enough listening to both on the speaker here so I can imagine in actual life here it would sound neat for what it is. Waterproof as well for underwater cool. Should do a demo in the bath tub.

Now you can connect your Flip 4 and Pulse 3, perfect. I think the Pulse 3 is good (I bought it) but there is definitely spilling of the bass into the mids at higher volumes and it sounds distorted at max. What do you think of bass heavy songs with vocals at max?

Hey Toni, First of all I must say I love how in depth you are with your videos. Real quality content. I have watched all of your videos regarding the JBL Pulse 3 and I have enjoyed all of them. I love your binaural microphone! Now here is my dilemma. I have been an audiophile all my life and I remember as a kid, I used to plug in LED strip wires into the back of my amplifier along with the speaker wires to get a light show which went with the beat of the music. I also remember being awe struck with the first JBL Pulse that came out way back when. Now that I am earning and am able to afford the JBL Pulse 3, I immediately looked for reviews on KZbin. After watching stuff from JimsReviewRoom , GYMCADDY , Floss and you of course. I have come to the conclusion that 1) the light show ( A gimmick to some people) is Stunning, 2) Awesome 360 degree sound with good clear mids and crisp treble 3) Mediocre battery life 4) The bass is lacking and the bass is clearly better on the charge 3. Now I am tied between the pulse 3 and the charge 3. I know the charge is better in terms of bass (WHICH I LOVE) but i still want the lights so bad. *My question is, - "How far behind is the Pulse 3 from the Charge 3 in terms of sound and BASS especially" Because i want the lights but don't want shit sound at the same time.* So how badly will i compromise? NOTE- Speaker will always be indoors on LOW TO MEDIUM with bass heavy R&B and some jazz. Looking forward to your reply buddy. Keep the amazing content coming. You're awesome. Well I bought the HK Go+Play at the same time as the Pulse 3 as like you, I wanted something for low to mid volumes but still delivering the bass. I was more intrigued by the lightshow of the Pulse 3 rather than expecting it to be awesome sounding. Different beasts I know, but I've kept the Go+Play.

There is nothing to analyze remember the Pulse 3 is a 360 surround sound system it's not going to sound like the other front facing drivers speaker's.

You can easily check the resonance peak (or where the bass is boosted) of speakers with passive radiators. Play different frequencies like you did and see at which frequency the passive radiators have the most excursion. As you can see, it moved a lot on 60 Hz, so close to that frequency the passive radiators are tuned. At the Harman/Kardon Go+Play the passive radiators make most excursion at 51 Hz, exactly the region where the bass is pretty powerful when playing music

Speaker Toni Ah! 200 Hz is such a high frequency where you can hardly see any movement of speakers, so you can only check the lower bass tuning (~below 100 Hz) with passive radiators

I think the pulse speakers are just nice looking . Idk what to think about this speaker ... Bass are good but pretty strange sounding just like the mids . Highs are better than on the charge but still sound bad for me !

Loudspeaker & more sounds bad? The Pulse 3 is the best JBL speaker ever for me. It offers better treble than the Charge, clearer mids, deeper bass, is as loud, keeps more bass at max and looks much nicer. It also has more linear treble than the Flip 4 and has way more punch and power over 50% volume while the Flip 4 already reduces bass.

Speaker Toni, JBL is not dedicated to the sound enough for this. Its like between charge 3 and flip 4. Price performance is not that great. There are some great options below this price. So, this would not my choice, because its definitely not special for me...BTW, I also do not like 360 degree sound...I wanna hear the sound directly, maybe i am old fashioned man :)
