JBL Tuner 2 and JBL Tuner XL Review

For lovers of Music a Bluetooth speaker is a great idea, but if you love the radio too then the JBL Tuner series is the best of both worlds. Here's our first look and thoughts on the new JBL Tuner XL and Tuner 2 - JBL speakers with DAB+ Digital Radio

We had a 1st gen Echo in our master bathroom for listening to music in the morning kzbin.infoUgkxABghAEkaIDGZfHRBH3D3rBrlraNmnC71 and while in the shower. I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.

Just to add for those who are curious if they should upgrade if they have the original JBL Tuner, they got rid of the loud startup and off sounds (a lot softer now) and also the annoying double press when the screen is off. The buttons works first press even when the screen is off. The DAB stations are also alphabetically arranged so its easier to find a station. I think the along with the upgraded battery life and IPX rating makes this a worthwhile upgrade. In relation to the reception, there is just a slight increase in improvement. Its not a significant improvement. I still dont get reception with my preffered placement on my desk.

I've never seen one of these but I recently came across one from altec lansing called the storm chaser that has a radio as well as a few other neat features like a lantern, flashlight, bottle opener, and it's also solar and crank powered on top of having a built in 10 hr battery. The sound quality is pretty awesome on it too and it even has bass and treble controls!

I saw this at my local JB today and was curious about the reception. I find it annoying with the first one having to place it near a window to get DAB reception. Thanks for posting!

I had the original model and after dropping it a few times it got pretty beat up and sadly it fell in the water for a few seconds while fishing and it's dead. Even though it's a "portable radio" it's not very durable. Wish they had made a waterproof version with shock absorbers. Also you cannot connect with the JBL speakers for their 'party' or stereo modes.

Thanks for the video. I have the JBL TURNE XL for kitchen in a fixed place. I always have it connected to the electric power adapter. Can this damage the battery?

Yes.That overcharges the battery and shortens its life.Recharge it only when needed..

Overall i love this speaker - when you put the JBL Tuner XL speaker on MAX VOLUME it goes SILENT for few seconds. And this reaally sucks in my opinion... If you know if maybe it's possible to change that in settings or smth, pls let me know, i have searched everywhere and haven't found any info about it. In settings u can fins only language settings by pushing bluetooth button and nr.1 button together for 10 secs. It toally kills the vibe, when you are listening to good song, and want to amplify a special part in the song and scroll the device on max volume, and then right at your favourite part of the song, the friggin speaker cuts out volume for few second! So bad choice of settings, JBL! Other than that, i love this speaker, wouldn't change it for anything else here sitting in my kitchen corner, perfect that it has radio option!

Bought the tuner 2 for my wife's birthday a week ago. Awesome little unit she uses in her hair salon. Only downside that we have found is it doesn't show the time like some other DAB radio's. Does the XL have the time displayed??

Are you actually in a signal area? DAB is not as wide and far reaching as AM/FM, so its possible you're just not in a strong signal area or area of the house

I had tuner 1 and tuner 2, overall jbl (samsung) is just a name and they make shitty products. My question is how you compare tuner 2 to grundig gbt (also budget german brand). I'm asking cause someone stolen my tuner from construction and wanna buy new speaker (tuner 2 again or smth new)

because those geniuses are always trying to improve what doesn't need to be improved. So now the world is filled with Bluetooth speakers with no radio. Probably because some marketing genius started telling these companies that the radio is dead and nobody wants that anymore. Of course, that genius didn't bother to ask anyone before he started spewing out what a great idea it was to have Bluetooth speakers minus the radio. Probably told them that they would save money by nixing the radio that he considers to be useless. I'm pretty sure there are still people in the world that listen to the radio. It doesn't have to be digital or satelight radio. There was nothing wrong with the FM radio. It was free and it sounded fine to me. They just wanted to find a way to charge people to listen to their stations. The sad part is that there are idiots out there that are now paying for radio shows that used to be free. Don't be surprised when they find a way to sell you the air that you breathe now for free. I'm sure there will be tons of idiots waiting in line to pay for their breathing air. The last thing they are going to try to sell us is time. Yup, there will be some marketing a__hole that will find a way to charge people for their time to live on this planet and again the idiots will flock to the stores to buy a lifetime that they already have for free. I still can't believe people are buying water like all of the water that comes out of our faucets is loaded with poisons. I know that there are places that have bad water, but we should have fixed those isolated places and never accepted the idea of buying water. I bet the people would be really surprised to find out that those bottles of water they are buying are filled by some fat guy in his bathtub. They market their water as if it was bottled in some pristine mountain spring but if you read the label, it will tell you where it was bottled and those factories are nowhere near any springs that they claim their water is from. They are never going to truck in mountain spring water from anywhere. they are just using tap water with an appealing label that is completely false advertising but they get away with it because they have rigged the system in their favor. What I wouldn't give to live in the 80s or 90s again when things were still sane.
