JC Penney Exclusive Barbie Spectacular Evenings Fashions (1988

Wow, I never knew this even existed! I looked at a 1986 Mattel dealer catalog (which would mostly have sets dated 1985) to see if I could find what those accessories were originally used for, the set "2310 Dream Glow Vanity" seems to have all of the same accessories as this so that is likely their source. Oddly enough the hand mirror didn't seem to have a reflective sticker and the tissue box didn't have a sticker to pose as tissues either, the picture frame had a photo of Ken and most of the bottles had B decals on them. Very interesting that the outfits were all remakes of previous ones. The hot pink outfit reminds me the most of the night version of Day-To-Night Barbie's outfit, and while I really like this soft pink version of Dream Date Barbie's outfit I think PJ's blue version is still my favourite. Me too for a long time :P I love finding new things. Sometimes it feels like you know it all and it gets a bit boring. Wow, thank you for finding out what those accessories went to! I think they are a bit odd to be included in this set but I am glad they were. I never liked the sequin tops for the Dream Date dolls. There was another set like this the following year and it had the dream date dress in purple. I would love that version, I would say it is my favourite.

I love the Dream Date - Jewel Secrets - Dream Glow gown ! It’s so unique. To think plastic snap buttons feel luxurious compared to current Barbie “fashions”… ☺️

It is isn't it! The whole reason I bought the set 😂 I have it on Miss Holland right now. I know right. Even the velcro they use these days is so cheap.

Oh WOW!!! I have never seen this before!!! Though I remember you telling me about it ... How COOL that you have a department store exclusive set! I'm obsessed with those! :P (I would often go to JC Penney whenever I visited the states, and the last few times I did was when I started collecting, so went to see if they had any modern-day Barbie exclusives, but unfortunately, they didn't even have a toy department anymore! :( ) P.S. How about getting those reflective sticker sheets, or even maybe reflective silver gift wrap for the mirror? I think I have a roll of that somewhere! As for a favourite outfit... DEFINITELY the ODLR silvery one, as I was sketching stuff just like that back in the 80's, as Oscar was my man, (so much so that - as I'm sure I have bored you with MANY times before! :P - I wrote my third-year design course thesis on Mr de la Renta!) It looks spectacular on Dee Dee!!!

Yes you have! In person! :D :D :D I brought them to your place before I uploaded this video. I had no idea they were still doing that stuff in the late 80s. Oh! That's an idea! You are a genius Spageddi! I need to get a whole bunch of that stuff. I have so many blank mirrors :D I love the ODLR too but that Dream Date/Jewel Secrets makes me all gooey inside :P It is so Barbie :P

This set was probably used to get rid of leftovers in the factory. The Malaysian accessories were probably left over from earlier dolls

I don't think so, but I can't be 100% sure as I have seen the Jewel Secrets dress in person. This dress here is made from a blue satin but the Jewel Secrets dress look like a stretch lame.
