Zhiyun Smooth Q3 - Gimbal Review!

Hi all! It's been a while since my last video, sorry about that! I've been super busy as of late, and my old MacBook Pro that I use for editing is also slowing me down. Hoping to pick up an M1 Mac to speed things up a bit in future. Had fun making this one, enjoy! ✌🏻

it can very easily use much heavier phone setups as long as you balance it correctly the first time. If it is particularly heavy on one side like with the lense, it will fail. This works on payloads above the rating!

Good video.....and you are the only one whom did a video with the moment case+ lens to show the problems....now I think a moza mini p would be a better choice since I want to use extra lens.

Thanks for the video Jack! Was wondering the following: can the gimbal turn in such a way that you can hold it 'normally' while filming yourself with the rear camera? And is it possible to still use the record button and certain modes (|like vortex) while using the standard camera app on your phone? Thanks!

Thanks for watching! ✌🏻 To answer your first question, the Pan Axis motor can’t quite turn 180° to turn your phone around so that the rear cameras face you while you’re holding the handle. You can get it to face you if you hold the handle at a slight angle, but that might not be ideal for long periods! Yes, you can start / stop recording using the record button on the gimbal in the native iOS camera app (can’t seem to get it to work in a third party app like Filmic Pro though!). Occasionally it doesn’t work right away, but I’ve found opening the ZY Cami app and using the button in that app first seems to rejig it to work in the iOS Camera. And yes, you can use any of the modes you can select from the Mode button on the gimbal (like Vortex mode) with any camera app you want! It’s things like the Gesture Recognition, Smart Tracking & Panorama Clone modes which you have to use the ZY Cami app for. Hope that helps!

Do you have any recommendations for a gimbal that works well with Moment lenses? I’m starting to shoot with the anamorphic and it seems like this would be an amazing tool to have.

@@JCKRGB It will be a while before I purchase and test one, but it basically seems like the Smooth 5 is the only one on the market capable of working with heavier phones, moment lenses, and filters. However, it currently has no FiLMiC Pro support and would require a counterweight. It also blocks the lightning port, so external audio is tricky.

I’ve not tried it for this but I think it would work for that just fine for both! For cooking you could maybe use it for a nice wide shot with the tracking feature, to follow you as you move about ✌🏻

The modes that are selected with the mode button on the gimbal, like Pan Follow, Lock Mode, Vortex etc can be used with any camera app you prefer. But features like Dolly Zoom, Gesture Support & Tracking can only be used in the ZY Cami app You will also need to use the ZY Cami app the very first time that you turn on the gimbal in order to complete the set up. Thank you Shirlene! You need to use the ZY Cami App for iOS or Android when setting up the gimbal and connecting it to your phone for the first time. (Links to the app are in the Description!) If you still have issues, I’d suggest contacting Zhiyun Support! ✌🏻

It is essential that the cell phone is well balanced. once you put the phone you must adjust the part directly behind it (round part of the gimbal, where it says "Q3), raise it or lower it as appropriate, until the phone is balanced both vertically and horizontally. If you don't balance it the result will be terrible , a very moving video

No no, there are 2 versions that you can buy. A Standard package or a Combo package. Standard includes the Smooth Q3, a mini tripod, a USB C cable and a QuickStart guide. The Combo package includes all the above, plus a wrist strap, the carry case and a 1 year subscription to Zhiyun Prime I bought the Combo package. Hope that helps! ✌🏻
