Oooh, thanks, lots of 9 points! hi from zambia africa! Super happy here! I ordered STARLINK directly, from CALIFORNIA TO ZAMBIA! And received it from california in 6 DAYS!!!!! OVER NEW YEAR!! . i put it up , with someone climbing onto my 10 meter high, brick shed, with a chromdek, metal roof! .that helps clear the tree line! And then granny meee, myself, connected that afternoon! I had the app already. If you had NO signal OR ELECTRICITY most of the year, like africa! you WILL LOVE STARLINK. Thanks for Lots of complicated info!

I absolutely agree when you say " just order it, you will thank me later." I wish I had viewed this video prior to ordering a starlink for RP. Yes, the ethernet adaptor is necessary. yes the pole fixture hardware with the push button release is necessary. Yes, WIFI 6 name brand routers are low cost relatively and are a great add on making the starlink wifi a bridge only. Do not go "cheap"; the additional hardware is very necessary.

I’m sure I’m not the first to say this, but just in case… as many other KZbinrs have shown, and I’ve personally experienced, you CAN get your Starlink earlier if you can find a nearby service address that’s available and just have them ship it to your address. If you are planning on using it stationary, this may not be ideal because you may not get optimum service if you’re not at your designated service location, but in our case, we spend a good portion of our summers in our RV and because Starlink has started activating the roaming feature, and with that enabled, even at somewhat throttled speed for roamers, this internet service currently beats out any of the competition for remote RV internet access.

This was helpful, thank you! Took a few notes. Unfortunately, because I got the flat high performance, there's a lot less info to be had. Plus, the app refused to let me pick a spot until my equipment actually arrived for some reason (maybe I was using it wrong). So I had to get it here before I could figure out where it would go, because I didn't know what it was going to look like! Now I know what it looks like, I have to locate somebody to help me install it, and that's going to be the hardest part. You didn't mention brick homes, but I'll consider the masonry kit to be safe. This was a great video even a year later, and even for people who upgraded to the higher-end equipment.

I've had my starlink for approximately 3 and 1/2 months it's been down three times it's been out for over 72 hours their support system after going through the troubleshooting and finally getting to write a letter get you very little response it actually came back on and I was dumb enough to cancel the new product that they were going to ship me 4 days later it's down again starlink is a weak Link in my opinion and I'm looking forward to the class action lawsuit that will be generated against them definitely if I had another option I think I would be switching for what it's worth you may not have an issue but my experience has been extremely disappointing after turning off other TV systems Direct and now only watching Airwaves for another weekend anyway all the best of you and yours I hope this makes you think about it

I have very poor rural DSL internet service (3.2 M avg download, 40K avg upload). The phone company says this connection is really intended for mild internet use by one computer. In reality my router has linked itself to about ten devices (computers, tablets, phones, repeaters). Usually no more than five or six of these devices are active at a time, but it's still too much for my DSL service. As a result we have periodic signal loss throughout the day, so I plan to install Starlink. We've downloaded the Starlink app, found a spot in the front yard that works well, and measured the distance at about 100 feet to where my CAT 5 switch is located. You mentioned bypassing Starlink and installing my own WIFI 6 or AX router if I'm using a static IP. I am using one now, but it's only because in the past every time the service was overloaded and dropped for a few minutes, one of my internet providers automatically blacklisted the new IP address. Once I established the static IP, this issue went away. Does this mean I will I need to bypass the Starlink router?

+1 on using a proper Router and using a managed switch. I recently converted my home office equipment over to a Protectli pfSense-based router and UniFi controller, managed switches and WiFi 6 Access Points (2), along with a TP-LINK Powerline kit, to extend the network from my office on the 2nd floor to the family room on the main floor, where I have an 8-port managed switch for TV, DVR, Game console, PoE Injector for the main floor AP. Using VLAN tagging enables me to separate traffic and keep things somewhat controlled (lol).

@@jcristina Having this much control over Intra/Inter-net traffic is fantastic. I've increased the security of my home network, IoT devices, etc. quite substantially! The Business Class router provided by my ISP sucked for WiFi. Kept dropping calls (both WiFi and Cellular). Now I have strong WiFi throughout the house + have an LTE Network Extender that increased cellular from 1-2 bars to a solid 5 bars! When we move (looking to get more remote), Starlink will definitely be investigated as a source for Internet. ;)

Be sure to return it if you need to within 30 days. SpaceX was supposed to ship me the terminal in January, but did not until June. By that time, I had left my summer home, but I accepted it because I knew it was hard to get. When I returned to Florida, I found that I had some installation problems, but by then it was too late to return it, and Starlink will not let you sell it without transferring the account first, which is virtually impossible to do in any reasonable amount of time. I also paid for 6 months of service. Their customer communications is awful.

After a year and one month of waiting, my Gen2 dish finally arrived. Had unobstructed views of the east, west, and southern skies (farming rural area) thinking that would be enough, nope. The dish finally aligned north and has stayed that way ever since, problem is two large steel building structures the dish can't see over. So for now it's out in the cornfield on it's little stand. My solution for permanent mounting, attaching four 90-lb mounting magnets with bolts/nuts to bottom of Starlink mount, then somehow getting it 30'ft up to top of steel roof and just set it on there and let the cable run down side of building. Since placing in the field and turning it on, there has been no interruptions of any kind, just a continuous data stream 130-145 Mbps dn / 25-45 Mbps up. I immediately canceled my 15-year DishTV satellite TV service and switched to Samsung TV Plus streaming service which has been running two days now non-stop all the while cruising the internet. First time in my old life of experiencing broadband internet and I'm lovin' it. Been using Verizon Wireless hotspot these 15-years for internet and I'm about to cut my service to them hugely to get my bill down. Still waiting on ethernet adapter, and bought a TP-Link AX1500 Next-Gen Wi-Fi6 router and waiting to hook it up so I can physically wire home computer and Samsung TV directly, and have Wi-Fi through rest of house. I'm very happy with Starlink.
@jcristina2 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure how the massive magnets will affect the service. You could look into a pole mount. You could mount on the tool of a 20+ foot pole. Just a suggestion.

@@jcristina - Just an update, Gen2 Starlink dish in it's mount that came with the dish is now installed up on my steel roof with four magnets (one each corner under the feet) and no issues whatsoever. Temporarily it's near the edge by gutter but as soon as I can secure a much taller ladder or man-lift, I'll place it near the hip of the roof. My current ladder not tall enough or stable enough for that height. When I go to move it higher, I'll have to use a 2'x4' to pry the mount from the roof. Should be okay in high winds.

Watched about half of the video. Had to stop because of the monitor playing the screensaver in the background. Too distracting.

Awesome video - thank you. We’re just notified that our StarLink system has been shipped - ETA 2 weeks. Based on this video, I just order a mount, Ethernet adapter and cable routing kit. Keep up the great content.

You can plug the network adapter into their router, and then (for most people) plug that into the ethernet port on any router you have in your house....no biggy.

I recently got my gen 2 Starlink and browsed the Starlink store prior to my delivery. The problem is, you cannot put any item in the store into your cart until your system delivery is confirmed. I get the email that mine was coming and went instants the store only to have some items yet undelivered. This is a problem because I had to do a temporary install while I await my pivot mount and Ethernet adapter which have yet to come. Starlink starts monthly service charges 14 days after you commit to paying the balance over your deposit to assure your delivery of your system. They need to make purchases available ahead of delivery so set up can be completed when the kit arrives

_"you cannot put any item in the store into your cart until your system delivery is confirmed"_ -- this is not true. I was able to order my pipe mount and Ethernet adapter at the same time I ordered my dish. There was no need to wait for delivery to be even scheduled, never mind confirmed. Now, it is true that the mount and adapter have been delayed. The dish was delivered three weeks ago, and I am still waiting on the other parts. The mount is supposed to arrive today and the adapter is expected to ship at the end of this week. And it is possible that you do have to _order_ the dish before you can order the other things (I say that simply because I personally did not try it in the other order and so don't have first-hand information to the contrary). But you definitely don't have to wait until system delivery is confirmed before you order the other items.

It's about using our money intrest free for a period of time. Once your system ships, your adapter order payment will be used for several weeks maybe a couple months. My adapter shipment date changed three times. It's sort of a ponzi scheme. I cancelled my service and I am keeping the system so it can't be recycled.

I would like to order starlink but not sure of the plan I need. We spend 6 months in the USA and 6 months in Panama. We will have a signal in both locations.

Thanks for ALL the Starlink info, just subscribed! Also, I ordered my Starlink, got it in less than 2 weeks, ordered the Ethernet adapter at the same time and it is still in preparing shipment, must be back logged for the adapters, FYI to everyone.

My walls are 3ft thick and I have no idea what they are made of because the building is over 400 years old, I think I’ll have to go in via a window frame. Surely a mesh is better than extenders?

I would need a AP (Access Point) in each room as close as possible to the one in the other room... Those are some thick walls.. :)

Best video yet about getting off on the right foot. My system was delivered quickly, but I had no idea about the connection cable or the pole mount, or even the fact that I need to hire someone to install the system. I didn’t see much on the internet, and there aren’t any instructions included. I would have thought they would have better documentation on ordering and installation. So far I’m very disappointed, but I hope that changes when I can get it working. Oh and that $20 Ethernet adapter is now $50. I just ordered another $350 worth of stuff to install it, and am being billed the $100 per month for service I’m not receiving.

Same happened to me. I paid a month before I actually got the Ethernet and mounting hardware. So glad you got some value in this video. Check out my Starlink Playlist for me.

@@jcristina Sure hope the service will be better than the lackluster website, and Starlink Store. You'd think with their resources they could get a website right. Got a $300 quote to install it today, but can't install until I get the other necessary things.
